- The original network TV version opens with an alternate pan across the girl's locker room with most girls wearing at least bras and panties - Nancy Allen is naked but covers herself with a towel. There is a mid-scene dissolve and some brief additional slow motion in a sloppy effort to re-sync the soundtrack, because this shot was shorter than the original one. This alternate take of the shower scene was shot specifically for the network television version of 'Carrie'. Also notable during this sequence, the on-screen credits are white (instead of red) and centered on the screen. Most profanity, especially during the scene with John Travolta and Nancy Allen arguing while he is driving, is re-looped to remove bad language. However, alternate, non-profane takes are used when Travolta and Allen are stopped in a parking lot just before the oral sex scene (which of course is deleted). In recent years, this print of the movie has vanished from circulation.
- Two different versions of the locker room scene currently air in TV prints -- both are edited versions of the theatrical cut of the scene, complete with red credits offset across the screen. In the more widely seen one, the nudity is completely blurred out with strategically placed fogging. A second version is sometimes seen which features some light fogging and Nancy Allen covered by bra and panties which were animated onto her nude body.
- In the gym fire, some prints show the principal, Mr. Morton screaming out to the teacher who humiliated Carrie in class, (Mr. Fromm) as Mr. Fromm is electrocuted. He screams, "Mr. Fromm!" In most prints shown today, including premium cable channels, you see the image of Mr. Fromm being electrocuted, but don't hear Mr. Morton yelling out to him, in shock.
- The Irish theatrical version had 14 cuts imposed to remove swearing and religious terms, including "fuck", "fucking", "fucked up", "shit" and "Jesus Christ". [Record 43330, dated 6 January 1977]
- The United Artists logo is plastered with the text variant in the 1981 VHS, 1982 variant in the CBS/FOX Video VHS print, the MGM/UA Communications Co. and 1987 United Artists logos in the 1992 VHS, and 1994 variant in the 1997 VHS prints.
- In the post-2001 DVD, Blu-ray and TV prints, the MGM logo is shown twice. First as the opening logo prior to the United Artists logo, and again as the closing logo.
- Even though the version shown on TBS is censored, the "Carrie White eats shit" graffiti is visible in the gym when Miss Collins lectures the girls who humiliated Carrie.
- On the TNT and TBS versions that are shown from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. everything is cut. Most of the knives that impale Margaret are not shown even flying through the air. The only shot of contact with a knife and flesh is the first knife that stabs her hand making her drop her knife, the shot of Margaret dropping the knife is not shown.
- Back when the film was first released, Miss Collins said that the girls did a "really shitty thing the other day". On newer versions of the film it's a "really shitty thing yesterday". This must have been done when the filmmakers realized the scene took place the very next day after the opening shower incident and Betty Buckley obviously had to re-dub it. The dub is even noticeable on the DVD.
