Devil’s Triangle is the latest film from The Asylum, kings of the mockbuster, who – this time around – give us an original story, set in that most famous of mysterious “landmarks”, the Bermuda Triangle. And who doesn’t love a good Bermuda Triangle movie? Hollywood certainly does. Hell, we got an entire TV show inspired by the urban legend.

Devil’s Triangle reminded me very much of 1978’s The Return of Captain Nemo – that film, at the time, married old-fashioned tech with modern-day stylings, whereas Devil’s Triangle takes futuristic elements of the Atlanteans and transplants wonder-day folk into them. Robert Zemeckis and his Imagemovers production company, along with Sony Pictures Animation, are going forward with an adaptation of Chuck Sambuchino’s novel How To Survive A Garden Gnome Attack. The film will be live action, while the garden gnomes will be CGI, and is a tale about a survival guide, which prepares homeowners on the off chance the lawn ornaments stage a home invasion. Chad Damiani and Jp Lavin have been hired to write the script. Zemeckis may end up directing it.

Just like it did with Spartacus‘ second season, which was ordered before the series had premiered, Starz announced they have renewed the drama for a third season ahead of the Jan. 27 debut of Season 2, Spartacus: Vengeance. Now she’s prepping to join The Return Of Captain Nemo, a $10 million 3D sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea starring David Morrissey. [Deadline]

Production is set to start on January 16th, to be shot entirely on a studio a la 300, utilizing CG. However, it’s not the big news the name Nemo would suggest. Notice the $10 million pricetag and the modest British star Morrissey. Huge Bonneville (Downtown Abbey) will also star as the titular Nemo.

Having proved that she was more than a match for Captain America, it seems Hayley Atwell is looking to get a little nautical. According to Deadline, she's now attached to The Return Of Captain Nemo.

Atwell joins Hugh Bonneville in the film, which Shoreline Entertainment announced back in May, with Pearry Teo attached to direct in 3D. Teo's name should be a little clue that this has nothing to do with Disney's long-gestating, David Fincher-focused big-budget 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is still sitting in the development docks, but may end up sailing again soon.

Nope, this semi-sequel to Jules Verne's tale finds Nemo languishing in prison until he's sprung loose by Atwell's uncle (David Morrissey) who also happens to be chief adviser to Us president Ulysses S Grant. Turns out there is a plague of sea monsters sinking ships along the Atlantic coast, crafted by an evil genius intent on attacking America.

If you don't know the name Hayley Atwell, you may have seen her flirting with super-soldier Steve Rogers in this past summer's surprisingly awesome Captain America: The First Avenger. She played Peggy Carter, Cap's would-be ladylove, up until their romance went cold (ahem). She's starred in a handful of other movies over the past few years, as well as appearing in Starz's Pillars of the Earth mini-series, based on the novel by Ken Follett. Having proven her knack for period pieces, her next project may be a 3D sequel to Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Hayley Atwell ("Captain America") and David Morrissey ("State of Play: The Mini-Series") have become attached to the $10 million 3D indie steampunk-themed feature "The Return Of Captain Nemo" reports Deadline.

A sequel to Jules Verne's classic novel "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", the story has President Ulysses S Grant freeing Captain Nemo (Hugh Bonneville) from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast.

Morrissey plays Grant's chief advisor while Atwell plays Morrissey's nephew. Pearry Teo directs the film which will be entirely green screen (ala "300") and will be shot in Romania starting mid-January.

The fantastic Hayley Atwell joining "The Return of Captain Nemo" is certainly good news, but what's surprising and endearing, is that the sequel to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" will have a price tag of $10 million! Yup, that's $10 million! This one is an indie version but will be shot ala "300" entirely onstage and using CGI. If director Pearry Teo succeeds, this will be ultra-cool! Once upon a time, David Fincher was going to make his version of the sequel, but Disney balked at the $150 million budget! Should Disney embrace this indie vision?

The Captain America: First Avenger starlet will be boarding the Nautilus in a new undersea adventure featuring the classic Jules Verne characters, which will be directed by Pearry Teo. The Return Of Captain Nemo is said to begin with the titular seaman imprisoned by President Ulysses S Grant. With the help of the White House's chief adviser, Nemo is released in order to combat enigmatic sea monsters that are plaguing American ships off of the Atlantic Coast. I had no expectations and little knowledge of the first season of Party Down (Anchor Bay, Not Rated, DVD-$29.97 Srp) going in other than it being produced by Paul Rudd and co-starring The State’s Ken Marino as well as the great Jane Lynch. Well, turns out it’s a wonderfully dry single-camera sitcom about a group of La caterers whose minds are on the non-starter careers as actors and writers.

This Jane Austen lady just May have a promising future as a genre writer. Her earlier volume, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (co-written by Seth Grahame-Smith), was a Quirk bestseller and quite a fun read with its gaggle of young British women searching for husbands while battling rampaging zombies and (occasionally) ninjas in Regency England. Actually, I thought that book could have used More zombies. One scene expostulating about local farmers harvesting extra zombies for profit and the inevitable bounty hunters tracking down zombies to earn big bucks might have served as the entire premise of someone else’s book.

However, this volume is a whole other kettle of fish (literally) as it subtracts zombies and ninjas from the Austenian formula, substituting rampaging marine life and (arghhh!
