Devil’s Triangle is the latest film from The Asylum, kings of the mockbuster, who – this time around – give us an original story, set in that most famous of mysterious “landmarks”, the Bermuda Triangle. And who doesn’t love a good Bermuda Triangle movie? Hollywood certainly does. Hell, we got an entire TV show inspired by the urban legend.
Devil’s Triangle reminded me very much of 1978’s The Return of Captain Nemo – that film, at the time, married old-fashioned tech with modern-day stylings, whereas Devil’s Triangle takes futuristic elements of the Atlanteans and transplants wonder-day folk into them. And given that I’ve always Loved The Return of Captain Nemo, I felt...

Hayley Atwell‘s star is on the rise, thanks to her standout performance in this summer’s Captain America, doing memorable things with a mostly thankless role. Now she’s prepping to join The Return Of Captain Nemo, a $10 million 3D sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea starring David Morrissey. [Deadline]
Production is set to start on January 16th, to be shot entirely on a studio a la 300, utilizing CG. However, it’s not the big news the name Nemo would suggest. Notice the $10 million pricetag and the modest British star Morrissey. Huge Bonneville (Downtown Abbey) will also star as the titular Nemo.
Atwell will play Sara, the heroine who’s uncle (Morrissey) is the chief advisor to President Ulysses S. Grant. The American government releases Nemo from prison in order to investigate the mysterious goings-on (re: monsters) taking down ships in the Atlantic Sea. This would serve as a strange...

Having proved that she was more than a match for Captain America, it seems Hayley Atwell is looking to get a little nautical. According to Deadline, she's now attached to The Return Of Captain Nemo.
Atwell joins Hugh Bonneville in the film, which Shoreline Entertainment announced back in May, with Pearry Teo attached to direct in 3D. Teo's name should be a little clue that this has nothing to do with Disney's long-gestating, David Fincher-focused big-budget 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is still sitting in the development docks, but may end up sailing again soon.
Nope, this semi-sequel to Jules Verne's tale finds Nemo languishing in prison until he's sprung loose by Atwell's uncle (David Morrissey) who also happens to be chief adviser to Us president Ulysses S Grant. Turns out there is a plague of sea monsters sinking ships along the Atlantic coast, crafted by an evil genius intent on attacking America.

[1] Just as Emma Thompson's Victorian Effie is finally coming together [2], competition has sprung up in the form of a rival project inspired by the exact same subject. Keira Knightley is reportedly in talks to take the lead in Untouched, a biopic of Effie Gray written by Aleksandra Crapanzano with Andrucha Waddington (House of Sand) directing. Both films are based on the same scandalous 1850s love triangle between Gray, the art critic John Ruskin, and painter John Everett Millais. Gray was married to the much older Ruskin, but Ruskin could not bring himself to consummate the marriage (despite being virile, as he demonstrated in court. Seriously). Gray eventually had the marriage annulled and left Ruskin for his protege Millais. Development on Untouched is still in the early stages, with no other cast attached at this time and no start date announced. Knightley currently stars as the center of a different mentor-protege love triangle,...

If you don't know the name Hayley Atwell, you may have seen her flirting with super-soldier Steve Rogers in this past summer's surprisingly awesome Captain America: The First Avenger. She played Peggy Carter, Cap's would-be ladylove, up until their romance went cold (ahem). She's starred in a handful of other movies over the past few years, as well as appearing in Starz's Pillars of the Earth mini-series, based on the novel by Ken Follett. Having proven her knack for period pieces, her next project may be a 3D sequel to Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. That's assuming she doesn't wind up heading to the future on the Universal/Tom Cruise science fiction flick Horizons (formerly called Oblivion). Deadline says that the low-budget The Return of Captain Nemo hopes to start filming on January 16th, but that could presumably be delayed if Atwell signs on for Horizons, which is...

The Return of Captain Nemo, a $10 million (which is probably an error on the part of Deadline; think $100 million) 3D adventure tale, wants Captain America star Hayley Atwell for the role of Sara. The Reaping's David Morrissey will play her uncle — who also happens to be chief advisor to President Ulysses S. Grant. Morrissey's government figure will be freeing Nemo (Downtown Abbey's Hugh Bonneville) from prison to embark on a quest that uncovers the mystery behind a series of sea monster shipwrecks. Atwell's biding her time, though, before setting sail on the steampunk nautical journey. If she's offered a part in Tom Cruise's Oblivion, she'll be jumping Nemo's ship for the big bucks. Nemo plans to shoot this coming January in order to...

Hayley Atwell ("Captain America") and David Morrissey ("State of Play: The Mini-Series") have become attached to the $10 million 3D indie steampunk-themed feature "The Return Of Captain Nemo" reports Deadline.
A sequel to Jules Verne's classic novel "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea", the story has President Ulysses S Grant freeing Captain Nemo (Hugh Bonneville) from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast.
Morrissey plays Grant's chief advisor while Atwell plays Morrissey's nephew. Pearry Teo directs the film which will be entirely green screen (ala "300") and will be shot in Romania starting mid-January.

The fantastic Hayley Atwell joining "The Return of Captain Nemo" is certainly good news, but what's surprising and endearing, is that the sequel to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" will have a price tag of $10 million! Yup, that's $10 million! This one is an indie version but will be shot ala "300" entirely onstage and using CGI. If director Pearry Teo succeeds, this will be ultra-cool! Once upon a time, David Fincher was going to make his version of the sequel, but Disney balked at the $150 million budget! Should Disney embrace this indie vision?

“Captain America’s” dishy British spy Hayley Atwell will be lending her bountiful talents to the seafaring cast of “The Return Of Captain Nemo”, a $10 million dollar budgeted sequel (in 3D!!!) to Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, set for production early next year in January. David Morrissey (“Red Riding”) will play “the chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who frees Nemo from prison to try and discover why mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast.” Atwell will play his niece, Sara, the no doubt feisty female lead, while Hugh Bonneville (“Downtown Abbey”) will play the incarcerated hero, Nemo, commander of the Nautilus and other impossible inventions. You’d think a guy who could invent all those things could escape from prison, too, but there you have it. The idea is to shoot the film “300″ style. That is, entirely in a warehouse and...

The Captain America: First Avenger starlet will be boarding the Nautilus in a new undersea adventure featuring the classic Jules Verne characters, which will be directed by Pearry Teo. The Return Of Captain Nemo is said to begin with the titular seaman imprisoned by President Ulysses S Grant. With the help of the White House's chief adviser, Nemo is released in order to combat enigmatic sea monsters that are plaguing American ships off of the Atlantic Coast. The production design will be steampunk inspired with a primitive airship Air Force One among other things. Hayley Atwell will play the film's heroine Sara, who is the Niece of the Presidential Aid played by David Morrissey (Centurion). Hugh Bonneville (Dr. Who) will portray the literary anti-hero Captain Nemo. With a budget...

I had no expectations and little knowledge of the first season of Party Down (Anchor Bay, Not Rated, DVD-$29.97 Srp) going in other than it being produced by Paul Rudd and co-starring The State’s Ken Marino as well as the great Jane Lynch. Well, turns out it’s a wonderfully dry single-camera sitcom about a group of La caterers whose minds are on the non-starter careers as actors and writers.

Sense And Sensibility And Sea Monsters by Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters (Quirk Classics, tpb, 344 pp, $12.95, out September 15)
This Jane Austen lady just May have a promising future as a genre writer. Her earlier volume, Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (co-written by Seth Grahame-Smith), was a Quirk bestseller and quite a fun read with its gaggle of young British women searching for husbands while battling rampaging zombies and (occasionally) ninjas in Regency England. Actually, I thought that book could have used More zombies. One scene expostulating about local farmers harvesting extra zombies for profit and the inevitable bounty hunters tracking down zombies to earn big bucks might have served as the entire premise of someone else’s book.
However, this volume is a whole other kettle of fish (literally) as it subtracts zombies and ninjas from the Austenian formula, substituting rampaging marine life and (arghhh!
