Semi-retired actor Rick Moranis is seldom in the spotlight these days after stepping away from Hollywood to focus on his family in the late 1990s. He's now made a rare public appearance by doing an all-new interview in which he reflected on making the hit filmHoney, I Shrunk the Kids.
Released in 1989, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids starred Moranis as Wayne Szalinski, an inventor who creates a shrinking ray that inadvertently shrinks his own children (along with the neighbor's kids). Per Cinema Relics, Moranis was presented with some of the film's memorable props that he used for his character. It should be a fun watch for fans of Moranis, especially those who particularly enjoyed Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. The interview in full can be viewed below.
Some of the items Moranis looks at and addresses in the interview include Wayne's eyeglasses and his calculator watch. He was also shown...

John Candy was a genuine treasure, but only Canada can claim him as a national one. And fellow Canuck Ryan Reynolds would like to see him honored by putting him on the Canadian 100-dollar note.
Replying to Made in Canada’s comment that they should put John Candy on Canadian legal tender, Ryan Reynolds wrote, “This is essential. No disrespect to Sir Robert Borden, but John Candy was Way funnier.” Reynolds has a point here – Who is more deserving of being the face of Canadian currency? A prime minister with a nine-year term or Gus Polinski, Polka King of the Midwest? Coupled with the fact that you couldn’t name a single time Robert Borden made you laugh and it seems like an easy decision to us…

Apart from The Simpsons Movie, Bart Simpson really isn’t in any other feature films. That being said, thanks to the show’s Spaceballs-esque penchant for excessive merchandising, Bart’s image has shown up in a few non-Simpson movies, such as 1991’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, which included a prominently placed Bart Simpson-branded glass.
But while Ninja Turtles II was a family film, a far more unexpected pseudo-cameo from Bart occurred in a movie released the following year: the blockbuster erotic thriller Basic Instinct, which featured Sharon Stone, Michael Douglas and, if you saw it in a theater in the ‘90s, hundreds of horny moviegoers.
The film concerns a homicide detective (Douglas) investigating a series of ice pick murders seemingly committed by a famous author (Stone). Oddly, the police psychologist who’s having an affair with Douglas, Dr. Beth Garner (played by Jeanne Tripplehorn...

Actor Tim Russ was an army brat who, at an early age, became interested in acting and theater. He attended St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas, getting a degree in theater arts, and he continued his acting studies in grad school at Illinois State University. His first professional acting gig was a supporting role in an episode of the reboot of "The Twilight Zone" in 1985, and his first movie was a small part in the 1986 Ralph Macchio vehicle "Crossroads." Audiences of a certain age likely recall Russ' cameo in Mel Brooks' 1987 spoof "Spaceballs." He was the Spaceball officer who, while (literally) combing the desert with an outsize afro pick, announced that "We ain't found s***!" That same year, Russ appeared in the wonderfully absurd "Death Wish 4: The Crackdown," a film that boasts one of the best death-by-bazooka scenes in cinema history.

John Candy was hands-down one of the greatest comedic performers of all-time. But after starring in classics like Uncle Buck, Spaceballs and Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Candy’s final film job was playing the drunken wagoneer in the disappointing Western parody Wagon’s East.
Or was it?
While Candy died during the making of Wagon’s East, Michael Moore’s Candy-starring Canadian Bacon actually was released even later, due to a delay caused by distribution problems. But on IMDb, Candy’s last credited film role is in 1996’s The Magic 7. Which begs the question: What the fuck is The Magic 7?
Reportedly, The Magic 7 was an environmentally-conscious children’s movie that combined live-action scenes and animated segments. The production boasted a wildly eclectic cast of megastars, including Michael J. Fox, Demi Moore, Meryl Streep, the late Madeline Kahn, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Bette Midler.

There's been talk of a potential Spaceballs sequel for many years, and we recently got confirmation that a follow-up to Mel Brooks' '80s Star Wars spoof is officially in the works.
The movie is in development at Amazon MGM Studios, with Josh Gad set to star and produce alongside Brooks. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film from a screenplay by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad.
Gad aside, no cast members have been announced, but we're now hearing that the studio has reached out to a major up-and-coming star for an undisclosed role in the movie.
In THR's profile of Wicked star Ariana Grande, the trade mentions that the recent Academy Award-nominee has been offered a number of roles which she has yet to commit to, including a part in Spaceballs 2.
"A disaster wedding comedy, a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show, and a Spaceballs sequel.

Ariana Grande has been the talk of Hollywood lately thanks to her standout performance as Glinda the Good in last year's Wicked. This awards season, she's up for multiple trophies, including Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards, where she'll compete against the likes of Zoe Saldaña and Isabella Rossellini, to name a couple. Her stock has risen so much that now the former Nickelodeon star is apparently being offered a slew of roles, including one in the upcoming Spaceballs 2.
According to a new in-depth profile on Grande published by The Hollywood Reporter, the actress and singer is so hot right now following the success of Wicked that she's been approached about numerous follow-up roles. These include, the profile says, "a disaster wedding comedy, a female detective romp set in a Housewives-style reality show, and a Spaceballs sequel." However, Grande, now 31, isn't too eager to just accept anything that comes her way.

Ariana Grande is worldwide famous for her global pop star persona, but her career started in acting and theater. Following the massive success of Wicked, the actress could make a switch to a sci-fi comedy.
Grande played Glinda in Jon M. Chu's adaptation of the 2003 musical Wicked, and, for her role, she received an Academy Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress. She is set to reprise her role in the upcoming second part, Wicked: For Good, but her talents are not overlooked in the film industry. In a lengthy interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Grande shied away from directly confirming she was offered a role in the upcoming Spaceballs 2.

After her standout role as Glinda in Wicked, Ariana Grande has received offers for several exciting movie roles. The success of the musical seems to have played a big part in her rising career.
However, Ariana admits that the impact of Wicked is something hard to match again, and she’s not trying to recreate that experience. Instead, she’s ready for something different, even though she’s unsure what that might look like yet.
At the moment, there’s a lot of buzz in the industry about her future. People are talking about her ability to do both comedy and drama, thanks to her role in Wicked. There are rumors of projects in the works — including a wedding disaster comedy, a female detective series, and even a Spaceballs sequel. But Ariana hasn’t confirmed any of these roles yet.
When asked about these opportunities, she gives a playful response.

While Young Frankenstein had to spend money on monster makeup and vintage props, and Blazing Saddles no doubt had to hire horses and horse-poop cleaner-uppers, Mel Brooks’ 1987 Star Wars spoof Spaceballs ended up being his most expensive movie up until that point — by quite a lot.
In a vintage clip that was recently shared online by Today, Brooks sat down for an interview with film critic and mustache enthusiast, Gene Shalit, just weeks before Spaceballs hit theaters. And the very first question concerned reports of the inflated budget. “How come Spaceballs cost more than all of Mel Brooks’ other movies put together?” Shalit asked.
“There was a mistake made somewhere,” Brooks joked. “It was supposed to be $2.2 million, but somebody put the point after the second 2 and suddenly it was $22 million. They gave it to us so we spent it. Mostly we spent it on limos. Everybody loves a limo.

Frozen star Josh Gad is currently working on the long-awaited sequel to the beloved Mel Brooks comedy, Spaceballs, and has now said exactly what fans wanted to hear about the project. Discussing the follow-up, Gad revealed some insight into where he’s at with the project, with the studio now “getting the budget together” and “going out to cast” for Spaceballs 2.

After decades of speculation, Mel Brooks is returning to make Spaceballs 2, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about the long-awaited comedy sequel. The original Spaceballs is writer/director Mel Brooks' parody of Star Wars and features Bill Pullman as the Han Solo-esque Lone Starr, John Candy as his sidekick Barf, and Rick Moranis as the villainous Dark Helmet. While the film was only a moderate success upon release, it soon became a cult hit thanks to its pitch-perfect sendup of the original Star Wars trilogy, picking apart its commercialism and silly sci-fi tropes.

Somehow, Dark Helmet has returned.
In 1987, MGM and Brooksfilms released a feature-length parody of the Star Wars movie trilogy that would become almost as enduring as its target with Spaceballs, a Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis and John Candy-starring send-up of science-fiction’s three biggest films. Since then, George Lucas revived the Star Wars franchise with a second trilogy, spun off the series with countless novels, comic books, TV shows and video games, sold Star Wars to Disney for a bajillion Space Bucks and watched as the franchise bloated into a behemoth of cash-in content and merchandising that would make Yogurt proud.
However, in the nearly 40 years since Mel Brooks produced, wrote, directed and starred in Spaceballs, the comedy icon has taken a break from following every branching path that the vast, multimedia Star Wars franchise has gone down. Josh Gad reveals how he told Mel Brooks about 38 years of Star Wars lore while pitching a Spaceballs sequel. Brooks directed, produced, co-wrote, and played multiple roles in Spaceballs, which primarily parodied the Star Wars original trilogy films, along with elements of Star Trek, Alien, and other popular science-fiction properties in the 1980s. Decades later, Spaceballs 2 is confirmed, with Brooks back to produce, while Frozen star Josh Gad is co-writing and starring in the project. Josh Greenbaum will direct the film while Gad is co-writing the script with Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

When Mel Brooks made Spaceballs, he didn’t need a Star Wars refresher course; it had only been a few years between Brooks' 1987 film and the end of the original Star Wars trilogy in 1983. However, when Josh Gad recently pitched a sequel to the comedy classic, nearly 40 years had passed along with countless films, shows, games, and books in the Star Wars franchise. Brooks was the first to admit that he hadn't exactly kept up with the galaxy far, far away. So when Gad pitched Spaceballs 2, he had to do so while also bringing the famed filmmaker and comedian up to speed, which seems like a Herculean task.

Per Entertainment Weekly, actor-writer Josh Gad appeared on an episode of Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, where he discussed collaborating with Mel Brooks on a follow-up to his 1987 sci-fi spoof and updating the process of lovingly lampooning Star Wars media from the modern era. "Mel is incredibly involved. I'll share a funny story that I haven't yet shared," he said, recalling, "When we were pitching him the original conceit for what we wanted to do with the film, at the beginning he goes, 'I'm just telling you now, I want you to really go into detail because I don't know a lot about the new Star Wars films.' And I said, 'okay.'"

Mel Brooks, who helmed the classic “Star Wars” parody “Spaceballs,” has not returned to the franchise since his 1987 feature. And at a pitch meeting for the “Spaceballs” sequel, it was up to producer and star Josh Gad to catch Brooks up on the happenings of “Star Wars” during the last 38 years.
“Mel is incredibly involved,” Gad said during an appearance on the “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast. “I’ll share a funny story that I haven’t yet shared. A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Mel Brooks blessed Star Wars fans with the ultimate parody… but he hasn’t kept up with the franchise since.

Whether he’s cooking up another scheme or just simply trying to ruin someone’s life, Dan Feuerriegel’s Ej truly enjoys causing trouble on Days of Our Lives. As the show rolls into 2025 with guns drawn and romance aplenty, the holidays were a nice time for the cast and crew to enjoy time with family and loved ones. However, Feuerriegel managed to slip out of time and space to send a special message to his followers.
No Time Like the Present and Future
Feuerriegel posted a spectacular video on Instagram of an incredible fireworks display emanating from the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney, Australia, which began with the sound of people counting down from 10 and had the overlaid text: “Happy New Year. In Hollywood, there are mixed opinions pertaining to families working in the same industry. Some have pointed to success stories as a result of nepotism, that the only reason a performer has made an impact on the big or small screen is because they are related to someone significant. Others suggest that talent can genuinely run in the bloodline and that there are big-name stars who have benefited from the natural skills that they have inherited. Regardless of opinion, there can be a strong sense of competition among a family, especially when it comes to fathers and sons, who both happen to be actors. One of the most anticipated horror movies of the year is Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, the star-studded remake of F.W. Wurnau’s classic 1922 silent film — and, to a lesser extent, several episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants.
Eggers is known for making acclaimed movies like The Witch, The Northman and Massive Phallic Object Island (aka The Lighthouse). According to the director, his cinematic inspirations for Nosferatu included classics like The Innocents and Ingmar Bergman’s Cries and Whispers. More surprisingly, he also watched a cinematic work made by the Oscar-winner who directed Spaceballs.
Eggers recently told IndieWire that, during the writing of Nosferatu, he watched Mel Brooks’ final directorial effort: 1995’s Dracula: Dead and Loving It.
Ostensibly a parody of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Francis Ford Coppola’s swing-for-the-fences take on the iconic novel, Brooks’ film also poked fun at more than 60 years of Dracula movie lore. Much of Dead and Loving...

It's the most wonderful time of the year, and that means people are gathering around to watch lots of Christmas movies. If not an outright Christmas movie, they also tend to seek out good-natured entertainment that the whole family can enjoy. Enter "Uncle Buck," which is a stone cold John Candy classic that has been beloved by audiences ever since it first hit theaters 35 years ago. Case in point, the film is once again finding its audience on streaming as the holidays approach.

Eight Is Enough was a rarity when it first premiered in 1977. The show was based on the book of the same name by columnist Tom Bradford, and chronicles his life and adventures raising eight children. Long-form series aren't usually based on novels because a given novel can't be stretched into a full show. But, Eight Is Enough broke the mold and offered humor and heart to audiences thanks to its talented ensemble cast. Although the show isn't a classic, Eight Is Enough is known as a forgotten 1980s sitcom.
Since the series centered on Tom, his wife, and their eight children, the cast was large. Some Eight Is Enough cast members went on to become major stars on the stage and screen. However, others, especially those who started as children, faced many issues during and after the show's run. Sadly, several of the cast passed away after, or in one case,...

From time to time, "The Big Bang Theory" would bring on some pretty big names to play the family members of its main characters. Just to name a few, Christine Baranski plays Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, mother to Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), Laurie Metcalf plays Sheldon Cooper's (Jim Parsons) mom Mary Cooper, and Kathy Bates shows up as Mrs. Fowler, the mom of Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). Dads get some play too; memorably, Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) dad Wyatt is played by "Revenge of the Nerds" star Keith Carradine. But what about Howard Wolowitz, played by Simon Helberg? We hear but never see his mother, voiced by character actor Carol Ann Susi, but we never meet his dad. Apparently, though, Helberg and some of the show's producers really, really wanted "Ghostbusters," "Little Shop of Horrors," and "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" star Rick Moranis to play Mr. Wolowitz.

The Spider-Verse never runs short on web-slingers, but who is the strongest Spider-Man of them all? For the most part, each Spider-Man possesses the same base powers, such as superhuman strength, amplified stamina, and increased agility, however, the different versions receive additional characteristics or enhancements that directly influence how strong they are. Let's be clear about one undeniable fact, though: No one wants to get into a slugging contest with any Spidey variant!
Much like Dark Helmet instructed his cronies in "Spaceballs," we combed the multiverse to identify the strongest versions of Spider-Man. At the same time, we channeled Uncle Ben's famous mantra of "with great power comes great responsibility" in the ranking system. It was a case of pitting the different iterations of the character against each other to compare abilities, feats of strength, and the lasting impact on the Marvel Universe. The first two episodes of the new “Star Wars” show Skeleton Crew dropped on Disney+ last night at 9 Pm Est. I watched them this morning. While they are a fun 80s-style Spielberian/Lucas-esque show that reminds me of “The Goonies,” “Explorers,” and even “Treasure Planet,” they aren’t exactly “Star Wars” yet.
The show is going for the time period the original trilogy came from (70s and 80s). It definitely has throwbacks to the original trilogy. However, if you took the “Star Wars” references out and made them something else entirely, it wouldn’t change the story too much. That said, we still have six episodes to go, which could change.
Jude Law isn’t in the first two episodes all that much, as the story mostly focuses on the kids and how they get a starship. But the kids are mostly fun and interesting, each with a distinct personality.

Steve Martin and John Candy's beloved holiday classic has become a streaming hit 37 years after its release. Martin rose to prominence as a popular stand-up comedian during the 1970s and went on to star in movies such as Three Amigos, Bowfinger, Looney Tunes: Back in Action and played family patriarchs in the Father of the Bride and Cheaper by the Dozen films. Over his career, Martin has starred in a few Christmas movies; 1994's Mixed Nuts and 2015's Love the Coopers.
On the other hand, Candy rose to prominence as a member of Second City and starred in movies such as Stripes, Splash, and Spaceballs. There are actors who define a period of time in the eyes of audiences, who star in groundbreaking, hugely influential projects that are beloved years after they are released, and whose screen presence makes them unforgettable.
One of those actors is Rick Moranis. For many '80s and '90s kids, Moranis was a face greatly familiar to them, a source of comfort in family friendly movies like "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" or their guide into the world of more risqué movies with adult themes and humor like "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Spaceballs." It didn't matter the tone or the genre, Moranis was consistently funny, endearing, and charming -- whether as an innocent floral shop worker who discovers a talking, singing carnivorous plant, or a Darth Vader spoof with plans for world domination (and a penchant for silly ties).

The Duffer Brothers’ “Stranger Things” is coming back next year. And we have some new details.

Watch the teaser below and we will break it down.
“In the fall of 1987,” the teaser states, “one last adventure begins.” (There had been speculation that the final season would take place at Christmas – could it be so epic that it stretches from the fall to the winter?) Interestingly, 1987 was the year of “The Lost Boys,” “Spaceballs,” “Robocop,” “Adventures in Babysitting” and “Batteries Not Included” – all, undoubtedly, hallmarks for the series. Great news, Mel Brooks fans! There’s a Spaceballs sequel coming down the pike, and the script is supposed to be amazing!
How do we know? Screenwriter and potential star Josh Gad tells us so. He just finished his first draft, and “everybody who’s read it has been blown away,” says the guy who just finished the first draft. “The process of working on this with and alongside Mel Brooks has been one of the highlights of my career.”
Gad then proceeded to tell Forbes everything about the new script without actually saying anything at all. “It was sort of a fever dream that this all happened,” he explained. “Mel has been so unbelievably supportive, involved and electrified by this because it’s the one that surprisingly got away. It’s a dream to be able to finally make the reality prophesied by Yogurt in the first movie happen.

In 1987, comedy legend Mel Brooks released Spaceballs, a parody of Star Wars that pit space rogue Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his furry companion Barf (John Candy) against the vile Darth Helmet (Rick Moranis). Star Wars mania had by no means abated by that point — Return of the Jedi had come out four years before — but Spaceballs didn't get its own cult of fans until it came out on home video, which is how watched it when I was a tiny baby in the 1990s. I actually think I watched Spaceballs before I watched Star Wars, and it's still probably first in my heart.
Brooks made a couple of attempts over the years to get a sequel to Spaceballs made, but nothing took; according to Forbes, Moranis once pitched him on a movie called Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II, but it never came together. And so a couple...

Ludicrous speed, go! Josh Gad has “gone to plaid” since announcing his plans to develop a Spaceballs sequel. The promise of another Spaceballs movie is almost too outlandish to comprehend, as it has been roughly 37 years since the original comedy’s release. What business does Gad have releasing a new can of Perri-air into Mel Brooks’ legendary Star Wars spoof? Does he have the juice to resurrect the property? Where do you even begin to tackle such an intimidating task? Thankfully, Josh Gad told Forbes Spaceballs 2 is going better than well, and those who read the script have been “blown away” by its progress.
Gad is a multi-talented actor on the stage and screen, and Mel Brooks (who turned 98 this year) is in his corner. Gad and Brooks will produce Spaceballs 2, with Gad starring in the project and co-writing the script with Detective Pikachu scribe Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.

While not many details are available in a new conversation with Forbes, Gad gave an exciting update about the script.

Spaceballs 2 has gotten a major progress update from co-writer Josh Gad, who reveals just how far along production is on the upcoming sci-fi comedy sequel. Spaceballs was originally released in 1987, the Mel Brooks-directed movie acting as a parody of Star Wars. The upcoming Spaceballs 2 was announced in June 2024, being developed by Amazon MGM Studios and produced by Gad and Brooks. Gad was also revealed to be writing the script alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez (Pokmon Detective Pikachu), while also being announced to star in the comedy film.
Speaking with Forbes, Gad revealed the draft script for Spaceballs 2 is complete, and that readers of it have "been blown away." The co-writer and star explained how support from Brooks has been extremely helpful in developing the movie, especially since it coincides with the joke about the sequel Yogurt made in the original. However, he made sure not to give away any surprises.

If anyone knows how to make a comedy, it's Mel Brooks. His body of work is rife with comedy classics like Young Frankenstein and Spaceballs, the latter of which has a sequel at last in production with Josh Gad to star (please be called Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money). So if Brooks knows how to make a comedy, it would stand to reason that Brooks knows what's funny. And what he thinks is the funniest movie ever made is right in his own body of work: Blazing Saddles.
