This Australian movie is originally titled ''Exchange Lifeguards'' but was re-named 'Wet and Wild Summer!'' for its release in the USA.
The movie was described as "Porky's (1981) on the Beach" by its writer-producer Phillip Avalon. He attributed this phrase on the SBS Movie Show to industry executive Richard S. Guardian.
The ''Mullet Beach'' setting in Australia is fictional but on the island of St. Maarten there is a place called ''Mullet Bay Beach''.
According to the film's production notes, American actor Elliott Gould read the third draft of the movie's screenplay and contacted Phillip Avalon to say he was interested in playing the part of Mike McCain.
