Three years after Betty White’s death, the iconic actress will be remembered in a special way.
The United States Postal Service revealed on Friday that one of its 2025 stamps will feature the American sweetheart.
“An icon of American television, Betty White (1922–2021) shared her wit and warmth with viewers for seven decades — including roles on The Golden Girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” the mail service said in a statement. “The comedic actor, who gained younger generations of fans as she entered her 90s, was also revered as a compassionate advocate for animals.”
White died on Dec. 31, 2021, nearly three weeks short of her 100th birthday. On Jan. 11, 2022, it was revealed her cause of death was a stroke she had six days before at her home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles.

The cult classic 1997 horror movie initially featured Ice Cube, Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson, but Black and Rudd are in discussions about a new version helmed and co-written by 'The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent' director Tom Gormican. The original movie told the story of a documentary film crew in the Amazon rainforest who were led by a snake hunter, who was hunting a legendary green anaconda. Paul Rudd and Jack Black are set to headline a reboot of the Anaconda movie franchise, as they seek to become snake fodder.
It looks like we may be getting another Anaconda film. You could probably have gleamed that from the headline though, to be fair.
While we could make a clever joke about the seemingly endless cycle of reboots, remakes and legacy sequels being somewhat akin to a snake eating its own tail, there’ll certainly be plenty of folks out there that that wish that there had been more Anaconda films, despite the series’ slide into made-for-television ignominy.
The first Anaconda released in 1997 and featured several stars with careers on the rise including Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube. And let’s not forget that Jon Voight added his talents to the project as well. It was barmy fun, following ‘a film crew that is taken hostage by an insane hunter,...

Columbia Pictures is hoping to squeeze out a new Anaconda movie for the 2020s.
Jack Black and Paul Rudd are in early talks to star in a reimagining of the 1997 horror movie that launched a mini-franchise.
Tom Gormican, who directed the Nicolas Cage meta movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, is co-writing with collaborator Kevin Etten and will direct the feature.
The original movie starred Jennifer Lopez, Owen Wilson, Ice Cube and Jon Voight, and followed a National Geographic film crew who is hunting for the world’s largest and deadliest snake, only to find the tables turned.
According to sources, the new story involves a group of friends facing mid-life crises who are remaking their favorite movie from their youth. They head to the rainforest, only to find themselves in a fight for their lives against natural disasters, giant snakes and violent criminals.

A new breed of creature-features was unleashed in the 1990s and continued well into the next decade. Shaking off the ecological messaging of the past, these monsters existed for the sake of pure mayhem. Just to name a few: Tremors, The Relic, Anaconda, Godzilla, Deep Rising and Lake Placid all showcased this trend of irreverent creature chaos. Reptiles and other scaly beasts proved to be a popular source of inspiration for these films, but for that extra crawly experience, bugs were the best and quickest route. Spiders, in particular, led some of the worst infestations on screen in the early 2000s. And on the underbelly of this creeping new wave — specifically the direct-to-video sector — hangs an overlooked offering of spider horror: Arachnid.

During the knuckle-biting climax of Steven Spielberg's 1984 adventure film "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," the title hero (Harrison Ford) finds himself on a rope bridge, suspended 100 feet over a canal in India. Evil henchmen with swords are approaching him from either side, aiming to grab the mystical Sankara stones from his satchel. In the ravine below, vicious crocodiles await, hoping to eat any poor souls who may fall. Indiana Jones, seeing no other way out, extracts a sword and threatens to cut the rope bridge. It's all very exciting.
One can forgive a lot of physical improbabilities in Spielberg's "Indiana Jones" movies, as they tend to be so enjoyable to watch. In the fantasy world of "Indiana Jones," we don't really care about Indy's bodily injuries. Continuity errors only become clear to the audience if Spielberg failed to engage us interestingly (see: "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull...

Things that stressed our parents didn’t worry us one bit and things we stressed about they found silly. Escape was found, as before and as still is, in horror movies. That year saw a few big releases, some great fun ones like eXistenZ, Deep Blue Sea, and Lake Placid, some that were meant to be great like Virus, The Haunting and The Astronaut’s Wife, and a whole lot of middle of the road titles like The Bone Collector, Resurrection, and From Dusk Till Dawn 2. The world was covered in the ooey, gooey goodness of horror and its special effects.

Large scale puppets, miniatures and various other all-practical effects will come together for Grylu Sker, an Icelandic ghost story from the creators of The Haunted Swordsman – along with Sjón, co-writer of Robert Eggers’ The Northman – that is now funding on Kickstarter.
The film will even feature a stop motion animation sequence supervised by Oscar-winner Phil Tippett (Mad God), so it’s no surprise that the Kickstarter fund has been a smashing success so far. Running until August 11, over $90,000 of the total $120,000 goal has already been raised!
Billed as a gothic adventure, Grylu Sker is the tale of a lost explorer set in a world of Icelandic folklore written by Tab Murphy and Icelandic author Sjón (co-writer of The Northman). It is a story of an explorer’s fight for survival on a bleak unforgiving island and also a re-imagining of the legendary Icelandic witch Gryla.

The scene where Robert Shaw gets eaten in “Jaws” is one of the most thrilling moments in movie history. After all of Steven Spielberg’s virtuoso framing and cool ’70s Hitchcock scare tactics, the shark’s big-mouthed consumption of a man who fully deserves to be eaten had a shockingly raw “Look, there it is!” exploitation-film brazenness. (One not inaccurate way to describe “Jaws” would be to call it the greatest B-movie ever made.) “The Flood,” an alligator-attack movie that’s also a violent prison-break thriller, takes its cue from that scene. Set in a backwater Louisiana police station during a hurricane, the film isn’t shy about serving up its big, nasty human-torso-meets-jaws moments. It’s basically a slasher movie with teeth.
The alligator thriller, of course, was always a bargain-basement knockoff of “Jaws” — literally, since the alligators are inevitably slithering out of some basement somewhere. But it was...

If you weren’t able to catch director Elizabeth Banks’ horror comedy Cocaine Bear in theaters, Peacock has you covered. The viral film will stream exclusively on the platform beginning April 14th.
Inspired by the 1985 true story of a curious black bear who got into over 800 pounds of blow dumped over a Georgia national park, Cocaine Bear features a stacked cast led by Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and a posthumous performance from Ray Liotta.

On February 24, 2023, Universal released “Cocaine Bear,” Elizabeth Banks‘ comedy-horror flick that raked in $22 million its opening weekend. An oddball group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens converge on a Georgia forest where a huge black bear goes on a murderous rampage after unintentionally ingesting cocaine. The film, which currently holds a score of 70% on Rotten Tomatoes, has garnered generally positive reviews.
The critics consensus reads, “Despite Cocaine Bear‘s half-baked plot and uneven acting, the titular fur fiend’s scene-snorting frenzy will give B-movie enthusiasts a contact high.” The ensemble cast (beyond VFX-driven “Cokey” the bear) includes Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Alden Ehrenreich, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale and the late Ray Liotta. Read our review roundup below.

Everyone knows about the fabled and miraculous box office run of James Cameron’s “Titanic.” The film rode a wave of rave reviews, following months of bad press related to cost overruns, release date delays and behind-the-scenes melodrama, to a record-setting 600 million domestic and 1.8 billion worldwide total. Opening with just 28 million, it spent its first 15 weekends atop the domestic box office, still a record for consecutive Fri-Sun frames.
What of the films that perished in the first months of 1998? For three straight months, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s Oscar-winning romance/disaster feature sunk most of the competition. This was 1998, when big movies were not expected to open before the May-to-August summer movie season. The film that dethroned “Titanic,” an expensive, grimdark adaptation of “Lost in Space,” was itself a surprisingly “big” movie for its early April opening weekend.

Who doesn't love a good crossover? Besides the fact that they settle nerds' constant debates of "who would win in a fight between ___ and ___?," there's something so exciting about seeing the main characters of two or more different franchises coming together for the first time ever. Another reason why crossovers have so much appeal with audiences is that there are often legal reasons why characters from one series can't mingle with those of another, making the times when they do meet on the big (or small) screen all the more special.
Crossovers got a massive boost in popularity due to the wildly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, crossovers haven't only been relegated to the superhero realm; for decades, there have been numerous other examples of fictional worlds colliding across numerous genres. In fact, well before Nick Fury appeared at the end of "Iron Man" to tell Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative,...

A new episode of The Black Sheep video series has arrived online this morning, and with this one we’re looking back at director Steve Miner‘s 1999 killer crocodile horror comedy Lake Placid (watch it Here). To find out why we think Lake Placid deserves more love than it gets, check out the video embedded above!
Scripted by David E. Kelley, Lake Placid tells the following story: When a mysterious creature violently kills a man in a Maine lake, Jack Wells, the local game warden, looks into the bizarre case, along with Sheriff Hank Keough and visiting paleontologist Kelly Scott. Looking for clues in a tooth that the beast left behind, Kelly and the others eventually locate the monster, a massive and vicious reptile eager to devour anything in its path. Can the crocodile-like creature be stopped?

Luis Llosa's 1997 creature feature "Anaconda" is one of those rare films that many people saw, but that few people love. Unapologetically reminiscent of monster movies from the 1950s, "Anaconda" was snarfed at by the general public, earning generally negative reviews (it currently holds a 40 approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and netting 11 Razzie nominations. It won none of its Razzies, "losing" to films like "The Postman" and "Batman & Robin." One may interpret the losses as a compliment or an insult. Despite the sour reception, "Anaconda" -- which starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Danny Trejo, Eric Stoltz, Owen Wilson, and Jon Voight -- earned a massive 136 million on a mere 45 million budget. It was followed by four sequels, including a "Lake Placid" crossover film wherein the titular snake did battle with a giant crocodile.

The Independence Day star landed his first major role in his 30s, but has since made up for lost time. Now he’s heading to the stage in a furious satire. He talks about family, fame and how Ibsen put him in a coma
Bill Pullman was 32 years old when he starred in his first film, 1986’s Ruthless People. This is, he notes, at least a decade later than most movie stars get their big break. “The term ‘late bloomer’ sounds awfully like loser, but I guess it’s what I am,” he says. “It sounds to me like a politically correct term for: ‘You’re stupid. Why did you take so long?’”
The reason he took so long is theatre. Prior to Pullman’s Hollywood career, during which he has hopscotched from film noir (Lost Highway) and kids’ films (Casper) to horror, romcoms and a triumphant blockbuster (Independence Day...

Is there a more terrifying horror subgenre than aquatic horror? I'd argue there isn't. Who are we to understand oceanic depths and pitch-black waters yet to be explored? We can rationalize away zombies and ignore slashers as real-life canon, but shark attacks or anaconda constrictions could happen any day. The new year is continuing apace at Hulu. The streamer’s list of new releases for February 2022 is highlighted by one very interesting project.
Pam and Tommy is set to premiere on Feb. 2. Perhaps the Groundhog Day release date is intentional as the show will cover a particular moment of celebrity, sex, and exploitation from the early ’90s that seems to have repeated itself over and over. Sebastian Stan and Lily James star as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson and the series follows the events and fallout of their homemade sex tape being stolen and unleashed on a nascent internet. If nothing else, getting the promo photos of Stan and James as the ’90s stars was worth it.

Multiple Emmy Award-winning actress and animal rights activist Betty White, who most famously starred in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, has died, just days short of her 100th birthday. White passed peacefully Thursday night at her home, her agent Jeff Witjas confirmed to Deadline.
“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” Witjas said in a statement. “I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

Although White is most notably known for playing sweet and naive Rose in The Golden Girls from 1985-1992, her career began more than four decades prior in her adopted home of Los Angeles.

Sony Pictures is in early development of a reboot of the “Anaconda” franchise, hiring “Divergent” writer Evan Daugherty to write the project.
The studio has not set up the project with a producer, director or actors.
Sony released the original “Anaconda” in 1997 as a horror thriller starring Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz and Owen Wilson. Directed by Luis Llosa, the plot centered on Lopez’ character heading a documentary film crew looking for a long-lost tribe along the Amazon River, only to see the expedition taken over by a nefarious snake hunter, played by Voight, leading to several horrific encounters with a massive green serpent.
“Anaconda” was a success with a worldwide gross of $135 million on a $45 million budget. That led to a 2004 sequel “Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid,” set in Borneo, as the protagonists sought a life-extending flower on a remote island inhabited by deadly snakes.

In the new horror movie “Crawl,” a pack of enormous alligators invades a sleepy Florida town during a violent hurricane and proceeds to rip the cast apart, limb by limb. These nasty gators aren’t the first critters of their kind to terrify audiences, however. Here’s our list of ravenous reptiles, ranked in order from scariest to silliest.
1) Alligator (1980)

When his appetite for human flesh gets the better of him, Ramón bursts through the sidewalk and chows down on a horde of terrified locals. We should go ahead and rename December 12th “Arrow Video Day,” because the fine fiends over there have a ton of titles coming out this Tuesday, including Special Edition sets for The Premonition and Malatesta’s Carnival of Blood, and they’ve also put together standalone special edition Blu-rays for both House and House II: The Second Story. Severin Films is resurrecting Asylum this Tuesday, and fans can finally get their hands on the latest season of Game of Thrones, as well as a box set featuring every episode from all seven seasons.
Other notable releases for December 12th include K-Shop, Once Upon A Time at Christmas, Brackenmore, The Snake Woman, Beware the Lake, and Hollow Creek.

Horror was in a weird place in the early 1990s. Most of the big franchises of the ’80s had more or less run their course, and in their place were a handful of new “icons” that would be turned into franchises whether it was warranted or not: the Child’s Play movies continued to be a growing concern, as did Candyman and Hellraiser and Leprechaun.
