“On day two of the coma, I started taking notes,” joked Kumail Nanjiani during a panel at this month’s Hamptons International Film Festival, when asked how he and wife Emily V. Gordon went from vigil-keeper and patient to co-screenwriters of the year’s second-highest-earning indie, “The Big Sick.”
Though the couple married in 2007 — months after their relationship endured the illness depicted onscreen — a half-decade passed before producer Judd Apatow encouraged comedian Nanjiani to write a film adaptation of their ordeal, which doubled as a terribly-timed introduction to his future in-laws. Screenwriter Gordon’s notes dramatically improved her husband’s first draft, and they proceeded to finish the script together, laboring over its development for the next three years, with guidance from producers Apatow and Barry Mendel and director Michael Showalter.
I culled through my and other staff interviews with Nanjiani, Gordon and Showalter, as well as transcripts from Variety...

When the Academy invited press for a hard-hat tour of its long-delayed, over-budget Museum of Motion Pictures, we heard Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti say nice things, as did new Academy president John Bailey, museum director Kerry Brougher, new chair of new board of trustees Ron Meyer, and museum committee chair Kathleen Kennedy. Yes, it’s great that, after 90 (!) years of planning, we’re finally getting a 300,000 square-foot Los Angeles movie museum at the corner of Fairfax and Wilshire to celebrate Hollywood past, present, and future.
However, that’s not what we came for. We wanted to know when it’s going to be finished and what it’s going to look like. (Notably, Academy CEO Dawn Hudson, who did much of the heavy lifting and controversy-dodging about museum funding and and construction, was on site but not part of the press conference. And Lacma director Michael Govan showed up late for the construction-site tour.

With Rob Zombie's upcoming film 31 taking place in a setting known as "Murder World", you can expect to find plenty of malevolent monsters (of the human variety) around every corner, but not every character is evil at heart. Zombie's newest photo from his next film features what the writer/director calls "the good guys from 31", characters played by Meg Foster, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Sheri Moon Zombie, Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and Kevin Jackson.
Zombie's 31 was recently acquired for North American distribution by Alchemy. No release date has been revealed at this time, but stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates on Zombie's latest film.

With Rob Zombie's upcoming film 31 taking place in a setting known as "Murder World", you can expect to find plenty of malevolent monsters (of the human variety) around every corner, as evidenced in the latest still from the film, which shows someone who looks like they came from Dr. Frankenstein's lab.
Revealed by Bloody Disgusting, the new still from Rob Zombie's 31 features a very memorable member of the Murder World proceedings. Though the official cast member and character in the still haven't been announced, there are physical similarities between this character and Richard Brake's Doom-Head, who was revealed in a shadow-shrouded still in March, so they very well could be one and the same.

Sister Dragon, Doom-Head, Father Murder, Lucky Leo—these are the names of just a handful of the bizarre, intriguing characters inhabiting Rob Zombie’s 31, which wraps filming shortly and is on the verge of entering the editing stage. To hold horror hounds over until more looks at his creatively conjured nightmare are revealed, Zombie recently unveiled a new photo from 31, showing Tracey Walter having a good time playing Lucky Leo.
In addition to Walter as Lucky Leo and Malcolm McDowell as Father Murder, the "owner of Murder World", 31 comprises the following eclectic cast:
Pancho Moler (2005's Bad News Bears, American Horror Story: Freak Show) plays Sick-Head. Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem, Halloween 2) portrays Roscoe, "the ass-kicking carney mechanic of Venus Virgo’s traveling show." Jane Carr (Curb Your Enthusiasm, How I Met Your Mother) plays Sister Serpent, "a wicked cross of Satan meets Mother Goose.

We're one big step closer to entering Murder World, the main setting of Rob Zombie's upcoming horror film, 31, as the North American rights have been picked up for the Halloween-set movie in which five kidnapped people fight against the likes of Doom-Head, Death-Head, and many more demented denizens of a place that even the bravest of trick-or-treaters likely wouldn't visit.
According to Indiewire, Alchemy (formerly known as Millennium Entertainment), has acquired the North American rights for Rob Zombie's 31, which has been filming with the following impressive, eclectic cast in front of the camera:
Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, 2007's Halloween) as Father Murder, "the owner of Murder World." Tracy Walter (Repo Man, The Silence of the Lambs) as Lucky Leo. Pancho Moler (2005's Bad News Bears, American Horror Story: Freak Show) as Sick-Head. Jeff Daniel Phillips (The Lords of Salem, Halloween 2) as Roscoe, "the...

Shrouded in shadows, Doom-Head is featured in creepy fashion in the first still from Rob Zombie's 31. Also included in our latest round-up is a casting update for the second season of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series and an exclusive excerpt from Doug Lavers’ sci-fi thriller, Rekindling of Hope.
Rob Zombie's 31: Played by Richard Brake, Doom-Head dominates the first official still from Rob Zombie's 31 (see below). Since the news broke earlier this month that Malcolm McDowell had joined the cast of 31 as Father Murder, more actors have joined the film's ranks:

Halloween may be over seven months away, but on the set of Rob Zombie's 31, the autumnal season is in full force and trick-or-treaters could pop up at any minute. Filming began yesterday on 31, Rob Zombie's Halloween-set horror film that takes place on the horror-soaked holiday at a place called Murder World. Are you an entitled millennial who never learned to read good? (Are you making your overprotective helicopter dad read this post to you right now?) If so, Internet “hitmaker” Patrice Wilson has just the “song” for you.
In “Friday,” he taught you the days of the week. In “It’s Thanksgiving,” he taught you that there is a holiday called Thanksgiving. And now, with this latest purposefully terrible wannabe viral music video, he’ll teach you something even more basic: The letters of the alphabet. Or at least everything before “Q.”
The new song’s title, no joke, is just “Abcdefg.

Hey, the Xbox One has a price! $499 in the U.S. for Microsoft's new console which will launch this November. The UK gets the world exclusive first showing of the latest Clone Wars, Stargate Universe and V kick off in the UK, and there's a whole lot of movies too...
It seems the healthy telly flow of Easter was strong enough to spill over into another week, as there's lots worth your tuning in to over the next seven days.
Tomorrow, Saturday April 10th is another of those Channel 4 100 countdowns. We're not usually intrigued, but this time it's The 100 Greatest Stand Ups 2010, which, of all countdown lists, has to have a chuckle or two tucked away between ad breaks. It starts at 9:00pm.
Tuesday, April 13th sees the return and launch of two shows for sci-fi fans. At 8:00pm on Sky1, Stargate Universe, starring Robert Carlyle, resumes its trek after a long pit stop.
Then at 10:00pm on the SciFi channel, the revamped, revised, but virtually the same series,...

Things have been quiet on the Mother's Day redux front for the past month, but today director Darren Bousman let loose with an extensive update and provided a new still from the flick.
Here are a few excerpts from Bousman's blog:
When the script came in for Mother's Day, the film’s producer Richard Saperstein pointed out that there were a lot of characters in the script. Like Saw 2, I laughed it off, and said I can handle it. Now, here I am in post, again crying… Not because it’s hard to keep track of everyone, but because every single person in this movie is Amazing and I don’t want to cut one frame of their performances… They gave me Gold – and Gold shall I deliver. But, alas, part of the post process is cutting down scenes, performances, and story to fit in cohesive, dramatic fashion… And Not Be 6 hours long…...

If you’re into metal or hardcore, chances are you have a Hatebreed record in your collection. Known for their crushing live shows and tireless efforts, the band has been a fixture in heavy music for the past fifteen years. With a growing following based on a mutual loyalty and respect between the band and their audience, the Grammy-nominated band closes out 2009 with a hit album on a new label, energized by their return to independence.
At the center of all things Hatebreed is Jamey Jasta - the multi-tasking frontman not only of Hatebreed, but also of Kingdom Of Sorrow and Icepick. Balancing music with running his own label Stillborn Records, and a clothing line called Hatewear without ever seeming spread too thin, Jasta has his sights set on conquering even more frontiers in the near future.
Last month I had the chance to talk with Jamey in the midst of Hatebreed’s fall tour,...

We've all had that friendship that was cut short for whatever reason — because your family moved, because you switched jobs, because you were a "greaser" and they were a "soc" — and we're left to wonder: what might have been?
The same is true for gays on television. Television programs are canceled for a lot of reasons, and it's definitely not always because of a lack of quality.
But what if these characters had stuck around a little longer? Who knows what kind of adoring or intimate relationship we viewers might have developed with them?
Here are a few of the folks I'd like to rescue from the Island of Lost Gay TV Characters:
Fred Savage as Mitch Crumb with co-star Jane Curtain
Mitch Crumb (from Crumbs)
If there was ever a show that coulda been a contender, it was Crumbs, a 2006 vehicle for a grown-up Fred Savage (who had become...
