The movie takes its English name from the Rubicon (Latin: Rubico; Italian: Rubicone; Romagnol: Rubicôn), the ancient river Rubicon in northeastern Italy, famously crossed by Julius Caesar in 49 BC, which is the origin of the phrase "crossing the Rubicon," an idiom that means that one is passing a point of no return.

Not bad Kukasaku stuff

A gangster is released from the can and decides to go back to business; This kind of topic has been seen in at least one thousand crime films from Japan before. It is question of friendship among tough guys, vengeance, honor, a bit of romance with the unavoidable geisha and of course lots of violence. Nothing really exceptional in this crime movie, but if you are a Japanese, and particularely Fukasaku's features buff, don't miss this one. This topic could remind you Barry Shear's ACROSS 110th STREET, where three gangster pull a gambling joint heist, a gambling joint belonging to the mob, the mafia. As also was GONIN. Then our three dudes will have to face their own doom..
