Featured review
I was completely won over by this excellent short film. Director Cameron does a wonderful job bringing Hemingway's prose to the screen -- and in the process sends a clear signal that this directing/producing team knows what it takes to put the production value on the screen. Not only was the direction and acting first rate, but the musical score really impressed me. The photography and locations take you right back to the images you had when you first read Hemingway. Unlike other films that have dramatized Hemingway's work, this film feels like you're stepping into one of his short stories. Sure, like all independent short films, the filmmakers clearly faced production problems, but this film seems to somehow overcome the usual things that plague small films, and you don't feel as if you're watching the work of a first time director at all. Instead, Cameron shows no signs of hesitation or apology and tells the story in a straightforward, no-nonsense, aggressive style. I think Papa would be pleased. Nice job.
