One month ago today, the Netflix streaming service unveiled a batch of images that gave us our first look at the upcoming romantic comedy A Family Affair, which is scheduled to begin streaming on June 28th. With that date now just one month away, a trailer for A Family Affair has been released, and you can check that out in the embed above.
The film was directed by Richard Lagravenese, whose previous credits include Living Out Loud, A Decade Under the Influence, Freedom Writers, P.S. I Love You, Beautiful Creatures, and The Last Five Years. Speaking with the Netflix promotional website Tudum, Lagravenese said he was drawn to the material because, “I saw in it a coming of age story for three different characters at three different stages of their lives. I was going through my own sort of transition into what Gail Sheehy called Second Adulthood, where after you...

Chicago – The movie musical seems to revive every year, and writer/director Richard Lagravenese puts his spin on the genre with a modern touch. A couple, portrayed by Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick, goes through the ups and downs of a relationship while belting out appropriate tunes in “The Last Five Years.”
The film is based on the stage play by Jason Robert Brown, and is the type of musical that is entirely sung. The songs are sad (“Still Hurting”), hilarious (“Summer in Ohio”) and poignant (“If I Didn’t Believe in You”) and are rendered by the couple in a direct and modern approach through Lagravenese’s direction.

The Liberace biopic "Behind the Candelabra" is the far-and-away frontrunner to win the Primetime Emmy for Best Movie/Miniseries Writing. Richard Lagravenese was previously nominated for an Emmy as producer of the nonfiction special "A Decade Under the Influence" in 2004, but this is his first bid as a writer, though he does have an Academy Award nomination as a scribe (Original Screenplay 1991, "The Fisher King"). "Behind the Candelabra" is an HBO production, which premiered on American television but was released theatrically in some international markets. It even competed for the top prize – the Palme d’Or – at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Of the nominees, Sundance Channel's "Top of the Lake" mystery miniseries is the best reviewed by critics, earning a score of 86 on Metacritic. Co-writer Gerald Lee is nominated for the first time; Oscar winner Jane Campion ("The Pian...

The queue was as thick as the sun that was piling down, as long as the fringes that seemed to flop around every corner and as heavy as all those faces weighed down with sweat and piercings. Not soon enough, the beast started to chug forward and with every step that was taken up to the Solus Bar and CF10 the shade became more and more and then less and less until we (because I’m not that much of a loner, you know) were sectioned off into two queues. One queue: those with tickets. The other: those with box-office tickets and guestlist. I slotted into the latter category and after some confusion with my surname – Irish heritage does nothing for me – I was granted access to the Solus Bar, which looked bare. I could have sworn there were more people in the queue than that. But, after looking around...

Marketing exec Bock leaving IFC
The Independent Film Channel is losing its senior vp marketing after 14 years with the cable network. Caroline Bock is leaving IFC at week's end to pursue a career in writing. The network has not yet decided on a replacement. "It's been a great job," Bock said. "I was at the crossroads of my own career there, and I decided to take the opportunity to make a dramatic change." Bock recently added to her duties by taking on responsibility for the marketing of IFC's TV and film units. She spearheaded the promotional campaigns for such indie releases as Camp and Casa de los Babys as well as TV properties including A Decade Under the Influence and Bad Ass Cinema. Her past work also covered Bravo, formerly owned by IFC parent company Rainbow Media Holdings. At Bravo, she helped launch Inside the Actors Studio.

IFC in 'Search' of new tribute to helmer Demme
NEW YORK -- The Independent Film Channel has begun production on a tribute to late director Ted Demme. Scheduled for release late next year, In Search of Ted Demme will feature a cavalcade of actors remembering the filmmaker, who died in January 2002 after amassing credits that include Blow and The Ref. The film will be executive produced by Richard LaGravenese, who directed A Decade Under the Influence with Demme, as well as Denis Leary and Jim Serpico of Apostle Pictures, together with Demme's wife, Amanda Scheer-Demme. Leary will be joined onscreen by people who worked with Demme, including Kevin Spacey, Johnny Depp, Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Bruckheimer and Joel Silver. Search will be told with the same kind of offbeat humor Demme was known for, said IFC director of original programming Alison Bourke, who also will executive produce the project with Ed Carroll, the network's executive vp and general manager. John Walter will direct Search; Jerry Kupfer of K2 Pictures produces.
