Eve walks by a storefront with a banner that says 'birthplace.ca'. First, the suffix .ca implies a Canadian website and second, small companies didn't promote websites back in 1996.
The characters walk past an HSBC bank during a scene set in 1996. Until 1998, HSBC's operations in the United States were known as Marine Midland Bank.
When the Eve picks up the newspaper at her front door to look for the advert for the bookstore, the paper clearly shows an advert for a Boxing Day Sale. Boxing Day is not celebrated in the US, so the local paper is obviously from Canada where Boxing Day is celebrated.
