Lina Esco, the actor best known for “S.W.A.T.” and “Kingdom,” has joined the cast of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s new film “Rip.”
Joe Carnahan is directing the action thriller for Netflix. “Rip” follows a team of Miami cops whose trust begins to fray when they discover millions in a derelict stash house. The official logline teases: “As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything for the team is called into question — including who they can rely on.”
Netflix declined to comment on Esco’s casting.
Along with Damon and Affleck, the cast includes Sasha Calle, Teyana Taylor, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins (“John Wick: Chapter 4”) and Nestor Carbonell.
In “Rip,” Esco will be playing a character named Captain Jackie Velez. The actor starred on “S.W.A.T.” for five seasons between 2017 and 2022, portraying Officer Christina “Chris” Alonso. She also directed the women’s empowerment film “Free the Nipple.

Back in June, we heard that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are set to share the screen again in Rip, a crime thriller that’s written and directed by Joe Carnahan and is set up at the Netflix streaming service. Earlier this week, Sasha Calle, who played Supergirl in The Flash, and singer/songwriter Teyana Taylor, who starred in the drama A Thousand and One, joined the cast. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that two more actors have signed on to appear in the film: Catalina Sandino Moreno of the MGM+ series From and Néstor Carbonell, who was recently seen on the FX / Hulu series Shōgun.
Rip will follow a group of Miami cops whose trust begins to fray after they discover millions in cash in a derelict stash house. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.

Child stars are a significant part of Hollywood. But sometimes, these young actors hit it big at an early age and then seem to vanish shortly after. One of example is David Dorfman from The Ring.
Horror movie fans will remember Dorfman as the creepy and iconic Aidan Keller in the horror movie The Ring. As the eerie boy who predicted people’s deaths, the young actor stood out in the movie franchise. However, many people do not know was a child prodigy who went to college at 13. Today, Dorfman is working for the government and leading a life far removed from Hollywood’s limelight.

Did you know that David Dorfman, the creepy kid in The Ring and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre went to college at 13, graduated UCLA with a perfect Gpa, got a J.D. from Harvard, and now works at the U.

First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. In "Furie," Veronica Ngô stars as an ex-gangster in a desperate situation. "Furies" takes Ngô from in front of the camera and puts her in the director's chair of the action-heavy prequel headed to Netflix. An early 2000s vibe about seedy gangland colorfulness nods to an adrenaline junkie wave that birthed titles such as "Smokin' Aces" or "Shoot 'Em Up," which isn't a complaint. Ngô orchestrates a sleaze-filled yet feminine action brawler that flips the script on once prevalent subgenre gender norms, unfazed — better yet, empowered — by the task. The hyper-intensive style favorably reminds of "Sin City" minus black and white, or even as recently as "Bullet Train," how Saigon becomes drenched in neons like Nicolas Winding Refn's got a hold of lighting rigs.
Ngô also plays Jaqueline, the gracious leader of an underground assassin squad composed of girls who've endured unspeakable abuse under male-dominated societal norms. Bi (played...

Amanda Mackey, the busy casting director who worked on The Fugitive and four other films for director Andrew Davis and shared an Emmy nomination for populating Larry Kramer‘s The Normal Heart, has died. She was 70.
Mackey died Saturday at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn after a battle with myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, longtime business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told The Hollywood Reporter.
She received one Artios Award for her work on A League of Their Own (1993) and shared another one with Sandrich Gelfond for Smokin’ Aces (2006) — she collected 15 Artios nominations in all — and the pair were featured in the eye-opening 2012 documentary Casting By.
Mackey was “an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now,” Sandrich Gelfond said in a statement. “She believed in me, lifted me up and gave me a career.

Amanda Mackey, the casting director behind such films as Best Picture Oscar nominee The Fugitive and A League of Their Own and who earned an Emmy nom for The Normal Heart during a nearly four-decade career, has died. She was 70.
Her longtime friend and business partner Cathy Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline that Mackey died August 27 in her sleep of myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of blood cancer, at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn.
“Amanda was a singular force — fiercely intelligent, impeccably stylish, wildly passionate about ideas, the state of the world and her work,” Sandrich Gelfond told Deadline. “She loved her daughters profoundly and was an unwaveringly steadfast friend and champion in a time when women weren’t as supportive to other women as they are now. Fans of frenetic, bloody action comedies like Smokin’ Aces, Shoot ‘Em Up, Kung Fu Hustle or just about anything from Guy Ritchie are gifted this summer with a likely candidate for their list of escapist favorites. The title of Bullet Train refers not only to Japan’s ultra-modern railway system, but to the collection of assassins and thugs who wend their way through the cars and each other for a variety of reasons. The mix of players and agendas will make little sense… until it does.

Brace yourselves for incoming action: Joe Carnahan is bringing violence to a screen near you! The filmmaker, known for penning "Bad Boys For Life" and helming stylish action flicks like "Smokin' Aces," has just lined up his latest feature, a Lionsgate-produced action-thriller called "Shadow Force." Just by name alone, this film fits pretty snugly with the rest of Carnahan's filmography, which consists of titles like "Point Blank" and "Death Wish." Perhaps its the ominous two-word title or the ultra-violence it implies, but "Shadow Force" sounds right up Carnahan's alley — especially when you consider the premise. Deadline...

It’d be hard to argue Joe Carnahan isn’t permanently stuck in 1997. Operating well past the point where dozens upon dozens of Tarantino knockoffs were inescapable on video store shelves and in shoebox auditoriums across America, he seems, if anything, intent on morphing the ’90s aesthetic into a new form of classicism for the 21st century. As the kind of guy who still finds slow-motion gunfights cool a full three decades after Hollywood caught wind of Hard Boiled, it’s nice he at least believes in a tangible, quasi-human cinema.
Despite putting his trademark obnoxious, corny humor on full-blast at moments (it’s as recognizable as Michael Bay’s), Carnahan’s newest, Copshop, feels like an act of relative restraint. And like something that’s cornering the VOD market yet given an exclusive theatrical release, the movie shows Carnahan giving a decent realization of a confined space as well...

Joe Carnahan made a name for himself with the brutal, intense cop drama "Narc." He followed that film up with "Smokin' Aces," a star-studded, rather messy shoot 'em up that was oozing with style, and far removed from the more serious tone of "Narc." Since then, Carnahan has occasionally dipped back into seriousness with entries like the criminally underrated "The Grey." But it's clear his heart belongs to pulpy trash where everyone is an ass, and everyone's got a gun. And there's certainly nothing wrong with that. When I say "trash," I say so lovingly. There's something refreshing about a trashy...

The new action sci-fi thriller Boss Level begins with former Special Forces agent Roy Pulver (Frank Grillo) and an unnamed woman waking up in Pulver’s bed, fully clothed, after what looks like a rough night. But things get rougher very quickly, as an assassin enters Pulver’s apartment and attempts to kill him. Pulver defeats him but ends up dying anyway–only to wake up the next morning and do the whole thing again, perhaps living a little longer and getting killed by someone else, but still dying.
In a running voiceover, Pulver casually informs us that this is the 140th time he’s done this. And he still can’t figure out why or how it’s happening, or how to break out of the time loop he’s stuck in. All he knows is that he will wake up again on the very same morning and despite...

Add another entry to the time loop directory with Joe Carnahan’s Boss Level arriving as this month’s installment of what feels like a regular ritual these days. It’s not socially relevant like The Obituary of Tunde Johnson, emotionally poignant like Before I Fall, genre-bending like Happy Death Day, or irreverently subversive like Palm Springs, but it is entertaining. This is especially true for fans (like me) of the director’s Smokin’ Aces since that’s the title this latest work most closely resembles whether by way of its frenetic pacing, eccentric criminals, or blunt yet quick-witted humor. With sardonic narration dripping with the frustration that comes from constantly waking up to deadly assassins ensuring death arrives before 1:00pm each day, it never tries to be something it’s not.

It’s been nearly seven years since Joe Carnahan’as last film, but the stylistic hallmarks of his work remain unmistakable. The director of muscular genre fare has always had a feel for composition and camera movement a cut above some of his peers. In movies like “Smokin’ Aces” and “The Grey,” he achieved a level of impressionistic immersion through rapid editing, but never sacrificed clarity and continuity — the action in his movies always makes spatial sense, even if it’s the camera bobbing above the whitecaps of a roaring river, as Liam Neeson gets half-drowned in some deadly rapids.
That knack for clarity and continuity makes Carnahan an ideal fit for a time-loop movie. And “Boss Level,” a passion project he’s been developing since at least 2012, is a solid one. Frank Grillo stars as Roy, an ex-Special Forces badass so committed to tracking down evildoers in the line...

Hollywood is always looking to remake popular foreign films. Hell, HBO is already developing an American version of Parasite and eyeing Mark Ruffalo to star. Another international property that’s ripe for an American reboot though is The Raid. Sure, you could argue that Dredd is basically the same thing, but I digress.
Released in 2011, The Raid is an Indonesian film that follows a police squad making their way up an apartment building to arrest a local crime lord. But as they rise up each floor, they encounter countless bad guys.
Director Joe Carnahan’s been developing an American remake with Frank Grillo set to star for some time now. And during a Q & A with Collider for their new film, Boss Level, Carnahan said that they’re no longer attached to the project under the title The Raid, but that they’re taking that script and developing it elsewhere.

We've got a grindhouse-style red-band trailer for director Eli Roth's upcoming remake of Death Wish. The movie stars Bruce Willis who is out to prescribe a lethal dose of revenge. The trailer also offers a healthy shot blood and carnage. It also makes sure to make a note that Eli Roth is a "horror master", but I don't agree with that at all. However, Death Wish looks like it might be a decent and entertaining film. It doesn't hurt that Willis stars in it and that it was written by Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey).
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures presents director Eli Roth’s reimagining of the 1974 revenge thriller Death Wish. Dr. Paul Kersey (Bruce Willis) is a surgeon who only sees the aftermath of his city’s violence as it’s rushed into his ER – until his wife (Elisabeth Shue) and college-age daughter (Camila Morrone) are viciously attacked in their suburban home.

"Someone took my wife. Everyone involved is going to pay."
MGM has released a new trailer for director Eli Roth's remake of classic 1974 Charles Bronson revenge thriller Death Wish. This time Bruce Willis stars in the film and he goes on a rampage of murderous revenge. It no secret that I'm not a fan of Roth or his films. Bruce Willis is great, though, so for his sake, I hope the movie is good!
The screenplay for the film was written ben Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey) and the movie looks like it could end up being entertaining. It's definitely going to be action-packed and violent as hell. Eli Roth loves the violence and we know he won't shy away from showing some grusome stuff.

Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo may end up teaming up in a new action thriller from director Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, A-Team, The Grey) called Boss Level. The actors are currently in talks to join the project and the movie is pretty much like a Groundhog Day-style action thriller.
Every day, a retired special forces veteran (Grillo) is trapped in a never-ending loop resulting in his death. In order to stop his endless suffering, he must figure out who is responsible and stop them. Carnahan wrote the script.
The film's concept also seems to have a lot in common with the recently released Happy Death Day, which follows a young girl who relives the same day over and over again until she finds out who keeps killing her.
With Joe Carnahan on board to direct, you know Boss Level has a good chance of being a completely insane action...

Just last week we learned that Bad Boys 3 was pulled off the Sony Pictures release schedule. That could have meant that Bad Boys For Life was either put on hold or canceled. Today we have an update from Martin Lawrence on the project, and he doesn't think the movie is going to happen.
While talking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor said:
"I don’t think we’re going to get one, not the way everything’s turning out. Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen. I’m there, I’m ready right now. If they wanted to do it, I’m ready, but I don’t have control of that. That’s the studio’s decision."
That's interesting to hear because Will Smith has been attached to the project for some time. Smith even previously talked about why he decided...

"They came for his family. Now he's coming for them."
Bruce Willis shoots people first and asks questions later in this first trailer for the remake of Death Wish. He goes on a killing spree of revenge after his wife is murdered. The movie was directed by Eli Roth, and this is a different kind of film for him. Roth is mostly known for the horror films that he's made. Death Wish is more of an action-thriller, an action-thriller that involves lots of killing. So, it seems like something Roth would enjoy making.
I'm not the biggest fan of Roth, but I enjoy watching Bruce Willis movies and the screenplay was written ben Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The A-Team, The Grey). Those are the two main reasons that I'll end up watching this movie. Judging by the trailer, the movie looks like it could be fun an entertaining, but it...

While they separated nearly two years ago, Ben Affleck's estranged wife, Jennifer Garner, has been instrumental in helping the Oscar-winning star get his life back on track after years of struggling with alcoholism.
Affleck took to Facebook on Tuesday to reveal that he'd completed treatment for alcohol addiction, and thanked his wife for her support, writing, "I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do."
Et is taking a look back at the couple's long relationship to see how Garner helped Affleck turn his life around.

It looks like the big screen adaptation of the hit video game Uncharted could end up being an awesome hardcore action film that no one was expecting! Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The Grey) wrote the script for the film, and he didn't hold back.
In an interview with Comingsoon, the filmmaker reveals that the script for the film is definitely rated R, he explains how he broke the Indiana Jones mold, and also says that there are "four of the biggest, f***in’ craziest action sequences" in the movies. I think fans of the game are going to be very happy with what he has to say about his script:
"When I wrote Uncharted, I didn’t spare the rod. I wrote it the way the video game is. They swear in the game, they’re kinda foul-mouthed and I kept all that stuff intact and I definitely didn’t...
