- An inmate serving a life sentence for killing a police officer forces Da Vinci to interpret a heart stoppage in an ambulance as a death in custody. Mick and Shannon search for the son of a woman who was beaten to death in her apartment. Winston is trapped in an elevator with a corpse. Da Vinci looks for a piano for Gabriella's birthday.—James D. Lankin
- Winston investigates the suspicious death of a man found in an apartment elevator. The man didn't live in the building so no one can identify him. After Sunny does an autopsy, she discovers he died of an allergic reaction to an unknown substance, and that he recently had a liver transplant. Once Winston finds out who the man is, Winston learns of the man's slightly bizarre end of life story. Leary and Shannon investigate the death of Tina Ingram, a junkie drug dealer and smuggler who died of a beating and by an overdose of cocaine which was hidden in a burst condom in her stomach. But more importantly, her 10-year old son, Jacob, provides a witness statement against an unexpected possible perpetrator of her beating death. However the story of a 10-year old will not hold up in court. A lifer inmate, Henry Mars, wants Da Vinci to investigate a death in custody: his own. Mars was being brought to hospital for a heart attack when he technically died for about five minutes, but was managed to be revived. He figures that since he was legally dead, he has therefore served what was to be his life sentence. During the investigation, Da Vinci learns from the paramedics that Mars did indeed flat line in transit. So the investigation becomes one of both a technical and legal issue of death, and what Mars intends on doing if he ends up being declared dead. On more personal notes, Jimmy finishes his tenure at the Coroner's office without an announcement yet of his replacement. And Sunny expectedly meets and learns of Mick's ex-wife, Kim.—Huggo
