This episode marks the first appearance of Carol Baldwin, the attorney friend of Magnum. Although she is portrayed by Patty McCormack here, the character became better known from later episodes, being played by Kathleen Lloyd.
Patty McCormack (Carol Baldwin) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1957 at the age of 11 for her role as Rhoda Penmark in "The Bad Seed" (1956).
Professional Wrestler Don Muraco makes his only non- wrestling TV appearance in this episode.
Dana Wynter previously appeared in season 2, episode 18, "Double Jeopardy", playing the actress Olivia Ross.
Writer, producer of "Magnum, PI", Tom Greene, based this episode on his own experience in the days when he was trained in Hollywood under the legendary master fencer, Ralph Faulkner. Faulkner, who had a studio in Hollywood since the 1930s had rather antiquated equipment, and when Greene tried on their electra-foil apparatus for the first time he was hit with a powerful shock which threw him on the floor and knocked him out for several minutes. Luckily, he survived, but he used that experience for the murder of "Trubshaw" in the episode. He consulted on the set when they shot the scenes between John Hillerman and Paxton Whitehead, (playing his arch nemesis "Trubshaw"), where Paxton is also shocked by a faulty electra-foil, but in the episode does not survive and Hillerman is charged with the murder.
