The cellar door has been opened and the official UK trailer for comedy horror Bloody Muscle Builder in Hell (aka The Japanese Evil Dead) has escaped! Trapped inside a haunted house, a body builder battles a gruesome ghost, hell-bent on revenge in Shinichi Fukazawa’s tongue-in-cheek splatter comedy. Originally released in Japan as The Japanese Evil Dead, Bloody Muscle Builder in Hell is an affectionate tribute to Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films, featuring an incompetent, square-jawed anti-hero and grungy stop-motion effects.

After a surprise phone call interrupts his daily workout, beefy body builder Shinji agrees to meet his photojournalist ex-girlfriend to help with her research on haunted houses. Accompanied by a professional psychic, they visit an abandoned house once owned by Shinji’s father. But inside the house a dark secret lingers and they find themselves trapped and tormented by a relentless ghost with a 30 year grudge …

As much as I lamented the demise of quality album releases in 2013, the last few months have restored my faith in the bands releasing worthwhile long-players. The following are all contenders to make my year's end top ten list. And I suspect I'll find a few more late entries, as well.

Denise Gossett is the Founder / Festival Director of the highly successful movie festival Shriekfest.

The festival just completed its 2012 season and has released its winner lineup. Check out the winners below, as well as an exclusive video interview with Gossett, by our Hollywood correspondent Dawna Lee Heising.

Shriekfest screened almost 40 films and had 30 screenplay finalists & 10 original song finalists. "Nailbiter" directed by Patrick Rea took the Grand Jury prize for Best Horror Feature Film, "Found In Time" directed by Arthur Vincie took the Best SciFi Feature Film award, and "It's In the Blood" directed by Scooter Downey took the Best Thriller Feature Film award.

On Friday, 9/21, we hit the 2012 Eyegore Awards held at Universal Studios Hollywood, CA, and brought back some ocular candy from the carpet and interviews with several of the night’s principals.

Paying respect to some of horror’s most venerated players and notable newcomers, the event was hosted by Syfy’s ‘FaceOff’ host McKenzie Westmore and attended by celebrity presenter and rock legend Alice Cooper, who together bestowed Eyegore Awards to recipients Chad Michael Murray (House of Wax and the upcoming The Haunting in Georgia), Angelica Vale (and her mother Angélica María, who was unable to attend) for their series Mujeres Asesinas 2, Silas Weir Mitchell and Bitsie Tulloch of the television series "Grimm" and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro for, well, being Guillermo del Toro.

Mti Home Video has picked up Matt Zettell's (The Cellar Door) Resurrection County for distribution on DVD March 20th. The film involves several friends travelling through some backwoods. In Enoch, they find an inhospitable welcome and vigilante justice when a small event turns into a bigger and bloodier deal. The DVD artwork is left in blood reds and the release will be sparse on extras, but the trailer promises a few thrills with a town of murderous rednecks. Check this one out on DVD in just a few weeks.

Actress Michelle Tomlinson is best known as the star of The Cellar Door and Kevin S. Tenney's recent zombies-from-space romp, Brain Dead. She is also a devoted Halloween fan, although she's been too busy lately to enjoy it as she once did. But in years past, Michelle was the Queen of Halloween.

"I have dressed up as so many kooky things, and used to love going to Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood with the throngs of humans and getting wild and crazy," Michelle told me recently. "I think it's an awesome excuse to get dressed up and be outside of yourself and be silly!"

For the record, I can personally attest to Michelle's love affair with all things October 31. I've known her for a while now and I can recount many Halloweens where I received unintelligible midnight texts containing bizarre photos of Michelle, clad in various outrageous costumes...

If you haven’t heard through pensive whisperings, in Ustream, or in our latest episodes, Episode 29 and 29.5 will be my last appearances on our podcast for a few months. In my personal life (rather, in that minuscule part in which I am not in front of a movie or television or computer screen), I am making a big move from Portland, Oregon and back to North Carolina from whence I came. My motivations are in very large part for family, but I will have added bonuses of warm weather, sweet tea, and good ol’ Southern hospitality.

As a last hurrah to the Pacific Northwest, though, I will be leaving on tour with my good friends in Horse Feathers (who are featured in our main episodes’ closing music). We’ll be all over the United States and Canada for quite a few weeks, so if we are in your area,...

The home invasion thriller with a twist, Behind Your Eyes, has finally landed itself a director to bring this captive tale of terror to life.

According to Bloody Disgusting Clint Lien will be stepping behind the camera and working from a screenplay by Daniel Fanaberia.

Details are still on the scant side at the moment. Sadly, all we've been able to dig up on the flick at this time is this log line:

"A young couple on a weekend trip to meet family are kidnapped and held prisoner by a psychopath until one of them escapes."

Kidnappings can be a harrowing experience. Just think of how helpless you would feel if some crazy or group of crazies decided that there would be nothing finer than capturing you and your significant others, killing them before your eyes, and making you wait those long seconds before you're offed yourself. True, that is the worst case scenario, but it's frighteningly possible.

There have been many recent films that have dealt with this plot device with varying degrees of success so the question beckons -- are you ready for another? Enter Behind Your Eyes. Details are scant at the moment. Sadly, all we've been able to dig up on the flick at this time is this log line:

The short horror film Death In Charge directed by Devi Snively, won this year's Pretty/Scary Award for excellence in female horror filmmaking at the 2009 Shriekfest Film Festival last night in Hollywood, California. The Pretty/Scary Award goes to the film that best exemplifies interesting, innovative, and awesome images of women in horror, both in front of and behind the camera. Previous year's winners include Side Effect (2008) and The Cellar Door (2007).
