Mattes and Melanie serve the young, activist artists group "Wilde 13" an order to stop squatting within 24 hours. They find in the cellar down the stairs badly wounded the collective's benefactor Jupp Kohler, who was pushed and injured his spine critically. He cooled down so badly, he must have been left ere a long time. A disguised man manages to escape from the scene in mattes' presence. Jupp keeps claiming it was an accident, no attack, but leaves the ER suddenly and without a trace after a visit from his alleged teen daughter, squatter Lilly Bach, risking a permanent or even fatal spine collapse. Jupp's past and illegitimate progeny prove key to the case.

A video going regionally viral on Internet showing Mattes manhandling a juvenile thief is bound to see him suspended pending or during an AI investigation, which may compromise his entire career. Forensic medical expert Dr. David Lindberg declares to recognize the abused youth as the burglar thug who, while escaping, committed a hut and run landing doc in a wheelchair for life. Mattes promises Lindberg an informal investigation, but finds with the team Juri Danilow is 'only' a petty street gang thief who didn't cripple Lindberg, so the must lean on him and his mate to turn on the abusive gang boss.

After Hans takes recently returned Africa NGO worker Malte Lampert to the precinct to instill the validity of a court order banning him to approach his wife Karen Jensen and now 17 year-old son Till, only Tariq shows pity, but must send him off for a clumsy bribery attempt. Desperate, Malte takes Tariq, who gets wounded at the head, his partner and captain Uwe Bachmann of a port tour boat hostages with a single demand: phone contact with Till. Hans finds the knave, who is a petty drug pusher and unwilling to cooperate, which changes only when he learns his mother lied Malte never showed interest in him while working in Africa, which his health disabled.

After anonymous threats, which Mattes and Melanie came investigate routinely, haughty theater director Jens Harting falls badly, not fatally, before their eyes through a stage trap. Suspects are the Romeo and Julia cast, especially the leads Timo Knof and Anna Liska, and stage crew, including prompter Kupfer. While Hans checks on Jan having got it from a forgetful old Mona Trinklein, whom he cares for as social service volunteer, who ran a boarding house used by budding artists like the Beatles at heir first visit to Hamburg, the ruling as not Lennon's own is discarded and the culprits identified.

Tax adviser Michael Otterberg is mugged while driving with his lover Katja Sorensen in his luxury car, which is stolen and seems his main concern. Tariq discovers there was a small wave of such thefts, apparently linked by a 'geo-caching' (treasure hunt with geo-navigation) site and sets out tracking down the game clues-riddled trail, looking for crime clues.

Mattes and Melanie respond to robbery alert in fish snack bar "Kallis Kutterklause" which was vandalized and robbed of all seafood. Yet owner Kalli is more secretive then cooperative, being a dodgy petty criminal himself. The sandwich they bring from there to hungry Tariq makes him ill, as turns out due to fish from a batch Kalli stolen from a fishy monger, which also contained smuggled medication. That trails to Dr. Jasmin Jonas's colleague Dr. Evgenji Pawlow, who discretely treats patients without Insurance, and ultimately his supplier Waldemar Rebel, a big fish.
