As far as modern action heroes go, one of the most enduring has certainly been Jason Statham, who’s headlined a slew of modestly budgeted action flicks that have made him one of the few genre staples left in the game. His career has been interesting, with him alternating smaller-scaled action flicks with bigger, tentpole event films, such as the Fast & Furious films and The Meg 1 & 2. According to DanielRPK, Nicolas Cage is gearing up to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze, better known as Ghost Rider, in a Marvel project. While the exact movie or show hasn’t been disclosed, the potential options are limited—and very intriguing.

Marvel Studios has been sitting on the Ghost Rider rights for years, allowing Marvel Television to use the Robbie Reyes version in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a brief spell. Recently, however, rumours have persisted that Johnny Blaze is being lined up to make his MCU debut.

Initially, we heard that might happen in a "Marvel Studios Special Presentation," but with Disney shifting its focus away from Disney+ in a bid to increase theatrical profits, those plans might have fallen by the wayside. 

The Spirit of Vengeance is bound to show up somewhere down the line, but before we get a new version, we may see a familiar flaming face.

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance star Nicolas Cage is now in "active talks" to reprise the role. The project he's being eyed for isn't named, though Avengers: Doomsday and/or Avengers: Secret Wars are most likely.

It was the year 2007 when Nic Cage starred in an iconic film titled Ghost Rider. Although the film wasn’t greatly reviewed by critics, it was a commercial success.

While “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” is a relatively low-budget reboot, it remains hard to parse its $20 million price tag. It has the look of YouTube fan film — not to mention the excess fidelity, aping the story beats of Mike Mignola’s eponymous comic to a tee. Mignola’s screenwriting credit is therefore unsurprising, but that director Brian Taylor was at all involved is an astonishing tidbit. One half of the duo behind high-octane films like “Crank” and “Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance”, Taylor has made several movies that get by on momentum and gusto. “The Crooked Man,” however, features neither.

Following Ron Perlman and David Harbor — two actors exceptionally suited for the role of Hellboy — actor Jack Kesy plays a more passive incarnation of the paranormal agent. If he quips, he does so subtly, and if he recalls secrets from his past, they don’t affect him very much in the present.

With the movie proving far more divisive than its original installment, Joker: Folie Deux has set an unfortunate record on CinemaScore. Anticipation had been high for Joaquin Phoenix and Todd Phillips' sequel to their $1 billion 2019 hit, particularly as the movie would be introducing Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn into the world separate from both the DC Extended and James Gunn's upcoming DC Universes. Upon its Venice International Film Festival premiere, though, Joker: Folie Deux has seen generally negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, with its Rotten Tomatoes audience score landing well below even the worst-reviewed Dceu movie.

Now, as the movie finally hits theaters and more audiences are seeing it, CinemaScore has unveiled Joker: Folie Deux's rating. Made before the current super hero cycle reached sickening saturation, Guillermo del Toro’s two films Hellboy in 2004 and Hellboy II: The Golden Army in 2008 introduced the world to Mike Mignola’s half demon anti-hero that first appeared way back in Dark Horse Comics in the 90’s.

Starring the perfectly cast Ron Perlman the movies blended del Toro’s eye for horror with equal parts of action and felt fresh and exciting at a time when comic book movies were still very hit and miss.

Never completing their intended trilogy, both Perlman and del Toro left the character behind when the production company upset them both. It wasn’t until 2019 that Hellboy returned, this time with David Harbour in the big red suit with Neil Marshall at the helm.

"Hellboy: The Crooked Man" is the second movie reboot of the demonic superhero, this time played by Jack Kesy. Hellboy was created by writer/artist Mike Mignola in 1993 and has since starred in countless comics published at Dark Horse. A demon named Anung Un Rama, Hellboy was summoned to Earth in the final days of World War II by the Nazi operation Project Ragna Rok. Instead of becoming the Third Reich's ultimate weapon, however, he was adopted by the American Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense (B.P.R.D.) and is the bureau's top agent.

Hellboy is half a fantasy pulp hero, half a procedural detective; most of his stories are short and small-scale, and he faces supernatural horrors with the same attitude an exterminator does a wasp nest. "The Crooked Man" — following Hellboy fighting a sadistic ghost in the Appalachian mountains — looks like it had some good ideas.

One of Nicolas Cage's most endearing traits is that he's an unapologetic nerd. It's all right there in the name. He was born Nicolas Kim Coppola on January 7, 1964, but when he landed his first starring role 19 years later in Martha Coolidge's "Valley Girl," he rechristened himself Nicolas Cage as a nod to the Marvel Comics character Luke Cage. Since then, he's been eager to share his love for comic books, science-fiction and horror, and has actively sought out roles in these genres and, to disappointingly little success, the Marvel movie universe (with "Ghost Rider" and "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance").

A new theory suggests that Doctor Doom might debut in the MCU as a hero, perhaps helping the Avengers to fight one of Marvel Studios' most heavily-rumored and highly-anticipated supervillains. There has been a great deal of confusion and speculation surrounding Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the MCU, as he will be debuting as the iconic Doctor Doom, rather than reprising his former role of Iron Man. While there are concerns about Downey Jr.'s stint as one of Marvel's most notable villains, a new theory puts a heroic spin on his return.

Founded by Martin Goodman in 1939, the company now known as Marvel Comics started off as Timely Comics, then evolved into Atlas Comics before finally being renamed Marvel. Goodman left Marvel in 1972 and founded a separate company called Atlas Comics, a.k.a. Atlas/Seaboard Comics. That Atlas Comics is now in the hands of Steven Paul, and Deadline reports that Paul has secured a deal with Paramount Pictures to bring a live-action adaptation of the Atlas property Devilina to the screen, the hope being that Devilina will launch an Atlas Comics cinematic universe at the studio. Paramount seems like a good place to get this cinematic universe plan rolling at, since they released the first four films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, before distribution of those projects moved over to Disney.

Mike Mignola's iconic comic book hero is coming back to the big screen with Hellboy: The Crooked Man. The Dark Horse Comics series centered on the titular half-demon was first adapted for live-action with Guillermo del Toro's eponymous 2004 movie, which scored largely positive reviews and was a modest box office hit. This, in turn, spawned a media franchise, including a direct sequel again helmed by del Toro, two animated movies featuring Ron Perlman reprising his role, and a 2019 Hellboy reboot led by David Harbour, which was poorly received and bombed at the box office.

Hellboy: The Crooked Man serves as the second reboot of the franchise, adapting the titular limited comic book series more directly. The story finds Hellboy and rookie Bprd agent, Bobbie Jo Song, as they become stranded in Appalachia in the 1950s following a train crash. Along the way,...

Hellboy: The Crooked Man's second trailer helped change a lot of minds and, while there's still not a huge amount of buzz surrounding the reboot, it at least feels like there's a chance it will surprise fans.

Weirdly, no release date has been announced for the movie but the cat might be out of the bag courtesy of an international distributor. They say the movie is heading to Indian theaters on Friday, September 13.

PVR Inox Pictures is "the largest independent distributor of foreign language films in India," and if it's being released there as soon as next month, we have to believe this date will apply to other international locations as well (though August 30 is another date we've seen floating around online).

We'd say it's likely that, despite releasing in theaters overseas, Hellboy: The Crooked Man is getting a Digital release in the U.S. and may skip the big screen altogether.

Like The Crow, there's not exactly a huge amount of excitement surrounding Hellboy: The Crooked Man. With only Deadpool & Wolverine and Joker: Folie à Deux heading our way this year from Marvel and DC, 2024 is a good opportunity for those more obscure characters to draw the interest of superhero fans.

Unfortunately, neither of them looks particularly good if the trailers are anything to go by and the odds are heavily stacked against The Crooked Man. Guillermo del Toro's movies remain beloved and 2019's failed reboot has already raised questions about whether Hellboy can work on screen.

According to reliable runtime leaker @Cryptic4KQual, it will clock in at a mere 1 hour, 39 minutes.

With superhero movies, that's typically an indication they're not very good. Then again, this is a lower-budgeted project and could be a smaller self-contained story which isn't quite as CG-heavy as the movies starring Ron Perlman and David Harbour.

At least we know Hellboy: The Crooked Man will be a relatively breezy affair, anyway, and there's every chance it's going to exceed expectations when it finally arrives in theaters.

That’s an excellent win for original movies, a much-needed boost for the horror genre, and a big win for the arthouse circuit, which we hear had several sellouts over the weekend with theaters adding showtimes. The first trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man received a mixed response from fans of Big Red and something tells us this new look at Jack Kesy as the title character won't change many minds.

While this approach to the iconic hero is in line with the comics, it feels a little low-budget. David Harbour's take went much heavier on prosthetics and didn't look much better, to be fair. However, the original big screen iteration dreamed up by Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman remains beloved.

It would be wrong not to give Hellboy: The Crooked Man a fair shot, of course, and it will be interesting to see whether it exceeds expectations later this year (it's mid-July and we still don't have a confirmed release date).
