I am always struck by the quality in Durbridge's writing, made over fifty years ago, the opening part of Harry Brent is intriguing, baffling, and very well made. It starts off as they always do, somewhat of an amble, with seemingly very little happening, then comes the shocking moment, an event I wasn't expecting, but one that had me gripped, asking why. Naturally there will be more then meets the eye as is always the case with Durbridge's fantastic writing.
It's so well acted, Gerald Harper is fantastic as Alan Milton, so many of these actors would appear in later Durbridge serials, Harper returning along with
Christopher Wray in a Game of Murder, Brian Wilde in Melissa. It's so well acted, Harper very charismatic with that fabulous speaking voice. Star of the show has to be Edward Brayshaw, fans of Dr Who and Rentaghost will recognise him, intensely handsome and charismatic in this serial, more from his character awaits I'm sure.
As always I'm gripped, and curious to see more. 8/10
