Namely, in it, we are going to cover the known information about an upcoming mystery series that is going to be released on Hulu early next year. The series has a promising premise and setting, as well as some major stars.

Dan Fogelman is staying in business with Hulu, with the streamer ordering a drama series set within the NFL from the celebrated TV producer.

Exact plot details on the untitled series are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact it takes place in the NFL and has a generational family component, per an individual with knowledge of the project.

Fogelman serves as writer and executive producer on the series. Jess Rosenthal also executive produces via his and Fogleman’s Rhode Island Ave. Productions along with David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, and Jason T. Prime Video is the place to be in August with an incredible month of new releases. The month kicks off with the premiere of the animated series Batman: Caped Crusader on Aug. 1. The series was produced by J.J. Abrams and The Batman‘s Matt Reeves. We also return to Middle Earth this month with the premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 on Aug. 29.

As far as movies go, the Amazon original Jackpot! arrives on Aug. 15 starring Awkwafina and John Cena. This comedy is set in a world where Lottery winners have to survive until sundown in order to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot – anyone who kills them before that gets to claim their prize.

The Hobbit trilogy also joins the Prime Video library this month, as do 21 and 22 Jump Street, Superman I-iv, Superman Returns, Night Swim, Drive Away Dolls, and 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Terry Press is officially reuniting with Steven Spielberg.

Amblin Partners has tapped the veteran and widely regarded Hollywood studio executive in the newly created role of president of strategy and communications. The announcement was made jointly by Amblin founder Spielberg and CEO Jeff Small.

In the newly created role, Press will join the executive team and will oversee the strategy and execution of all elements of marketing, publicity, consumer products and communication strategy for the film and television divisions of Amblin Partners and Spielberg. She is not filling the job vacated recently by top corporate communications exec Dan Berger.

Press — known for her wit and sharp eye — served as head of marketing for a decade at DreamWorks Skg, the now-defunct studio launched by Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg. She oversaw the campaigns for Saving Private Ryan and best picture winners American Beauty, Gladiator and Universal’s A Beautiful Mind.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.

First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.

We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Paramount+’s January 2024 lineup includes the series premiere of Sexy Beast, a prequel to the critically acclaimed, award-winning drama released in 2000 and starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Ray Winstone. The streaming service’s also kicking off the new year with the debut of The Woman in the Wall, a six-episode series starring Ruth Wilson (His Dark Materials) and Daryl McCormack (Bad Sisters).

June Carter Cash is the focus of June, a feature-length documentary directed by Emmy Award-winner Kristen Vaurio (Going Clear: Scientology & The Prison of Belief) arriving on January 16. January 2024 also sees the return of SkyMed, a medical drama set in the world of medics and pilots who fly air ambulances in Canada, for its second season.

The return of Loki to Disney+ didn’t cause quite as big a stir as the show’s debut.

Season two of the Marvel series premiered Oct. 5, and it gathered 446 million minutes of viewing time over its first three days and change (it was released at 9 p.m. Et/6 p.m. Pt Oct. 5 in the United States), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings. That’s about 39 percent lower than the 731 million minutes of viewing for Loki’s series premiere week in June 2021.

Disney said that the season two premiere, which runs 47 minutes, had 10.9 million “views” worldwide, which would equate to about 512 million minutes of watch time (the increasingly standard definition of a streaming view is total viewing time divided by run time). The 446 million minutes recorded by Nielsen includes viewing of season one’s six episodes as well, so it’s hard to say exactly how much time U.S.

Director Doug Liman's American Made ranks as the number nine most popular movie on Netflix for the week of Oct. 2-8. The movie stars Tom Cruise as American pilot Barry Seal, who became a DEA informant while smuggling drugs for the Medellín Cartel. American Made earned mostly positive reviews from critics and performed modestly well at the box office, with Cruise's more charismatic performance proving particularly praiseworthy.

American Made, an action comedy with an underrated Tom Cruise performance, has just landed on Netflix's top 10 movies list. Released in 2017, American Made is based on real events, chronicling the exploits of American pilot Barry Seal, who eventually found himself serving as an informant for the DEA while smuggling drugs for the Medellín Cartel. Hulu is not commenting on exact plot details of the untitled series, but sources describe the show as a thriller and say Brown would star as the head of security for a former president.

In addition to writing, Fogelman will executive produce via Rhode Island Ave. Productions along with Jess Rosenthal. Brown will executive produce in addition to starring, with John Hoberg also executive producing. 20th Television is the studio, with Fogelman currently under an overall deal there.

Exclusive: Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures has acquired global rights to Ghost Boys, Jewell Parker Rhodes’ 2018 novel for young readers that weaves genres to explore what happens after a Black child is killed by a white police officer.

Amy Baer and Michael Besman have come aboard to develop and produce a feature film based on the New York Times bestseller. Baer’s associate Chris Ceccotti will executive produce along with Esmp’s Allen, Carolyn Folks and Jennifer Lucas. The project is now out to writers to adapt.

MRC Film has launched Landline Pictures, a new label targeting audiences over 50. Veteran producer Amy Baer has been tapped to lead the new venture.

According to a release announcing the news, Landline Pictures “will focus on uplifting and entertaining stories that are about and targeting the over 50 demographic, yet commercial and conceptual enough to cross over to a broader audience.”

Baer, who will report to MRC Film Co-Presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman, will oversee Landline Pictures’ creative and strategic agenda and serve in a producer capacity on all the label’s projects, with the goal to generate multiple films per year for both theatrical and streaming distribution.

“Amy is a total pro’s pro and we are proud to be partnered with her on this venture. There is a huge opportunity to make humorous and thoughtful movies for this underserved audience,” Adler and Golfman said, announcing the new venture and Baer’s appointment.

Sony Pictures Entertainment has promoted Nicole Brown to president of TriStar Pictures, extending her contract with the studio to continue oversight of the specialty label.

Brown was appointed last year to head TriStar Pictures as executive vice president. She will continue to report to Tom Rothman, chairman of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group, and oversee all of TriStar’s film development and production. She is currently the only Black woman running a live-action label at a major studio.

Robert De Niro, bless his soul, he’s a national treasure and his career go something like this: De Niro does occasional prestige projects with people like Martin Scorsese and then most of the other time these days, he does movies like “Last Vegas” where he teams with other veterans/old-timer actors like Morgan Freeman and Michael Douglas in broad comedies. That seems to be the gist of “The Comeback Trail,” a ‘70s filmmaking comedy about a scam artist film producer who falls in debt to the mob, and then to get out of hock, finances a badly written Western movie in the hopes of the production killing its aging star.

“Capone” was released on May 12 through several on-demand platforms, such as iTunes (where it soared to No. 1 on the charts within its first three days of release) Amazon and cable on-demand.

“We are incredibly impressed with the attention and interest surrounding ‘Capone,'” the company said. “Although we wish the film could have been premiered in theaters as originally intended, we could not be more thrilled with the success of the VOD home premiere release.”

Miramax has named Wolfgang Hammer, the former CEO and founder of Super Deluxe, as its head of film and executive vice president, the studio announced Thursday.

Munika Lay, a former executive at MGM, has also been named vice president of film. Hammer will report to Miramax CEO Bill Block. Lay will report to Hammer.

Hammer will oversee Miramax’s feature film development and production efforts under the company’s joint venture with Paramount. Lay meanwhile will support efforts in expanding Miramax’s library by contributing to the development and production of future projects.

Alex Ginno has joined Brad Fuller and Andrew Form’s Fully Formed as head of film.

The company has a three-year first-look deal with Paramount, where they recently wrapped production on “A Quiet Place: Part II” and are currently prepping Season 3 of the hit show “Jack Ryan” for Amazon. The second season recently bowed, with John Krasinski reprising his role as the title character and Wendell Pierce returning to play James Greer. The show has earned rave reviews and has become one of Amazon’s more popular series.

Prior to joining Fully Formed, Ginno served as senior vice president of development and production at CBS Films, where his projects included “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” directed by Andre Ovredal and produced by Guillermo del Toro. Brown’s career in the independent world focused on discovering new talent and working with first time directors like Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Drew Barrymore, Lorene Scafaria and Diablo Cody. Adam DeVine‘s co-star in the new comedy “Jexi” is a cell phone, more specifically, a virtual assistant voiced by Rose Byrne.

At the film’s premiere on Thursday in Los Angeles, DeVine told Variety that during filming, for timing, he listened through a crackling earpiece to another actress reading Byrne’s lines.

“It was hard [acting opposite the phone] because it was before [Byrne] recorded,” he said. “It was much harder than it [looks], because half the time those ear pods don’t work as well as you want them to.”

Co-director Jon Lucas told Variety of the scene anatomy, “We had a lot of ideas about how the sound would work. Then our sound guy was like those are all terrible ideas. He was 100% correct, and we were 100% wrong. … Frankly, there were times when [Adam] would just take the earbud out and do the whole scene, his side of the scene, without ever hearing anyone talking.

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman is staying put at 20th Century Fox TV, signing a massive new five-year deal with the studio behind the hit NBC drama.

Under the pact, Fogelman will continue to help steer This Is Us, which is headed into its fourth season, and develop new series for the studio, now owned by Disney, through his Rhode Island Ave. Productions. (This Is Us has bot been renewed by NBC but that is considered a formality.)

Fogelman was one of the biggest names on 20th TV’s roster to come into play this year. It was important for the studio to step up to keep him and it did so. No one would comment but I hear Fogelman’s new deal is in the nine figures.

Lionsgate announced on Thursday that it has appointed Matt Leonetti as the film studio’s new head of physical production.

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president Nathan Kahane made the announcement, saying Leonetti will lead all areas of physical production for Lionsgate’s feature film slate including releases from its Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment labels and titles from the company’s Pantelion, Codeblack, Roadside Attractions and Premiere brands.

“Matt is a respected and accomplished physical production executive with whom I’ve had the pleasure of working on a number of exciting and successful films,” Kahane said in a statement. “With his strong track record, great talent relationships and tremendous expertise, he will be a key member of the leadership team moving our Motion Picture Group forward in the years to come.”
