With the release of their first full-length album, Would You Miss It? , Long Island based melodic hardcore band Koyo fully announced themselves as one of the forces to be reckoned with in the scene over the next few years. After touring the world in 2023, culminating in a U.S. spanning triple headline bill with One Step Closer and Anxious, the band is set to end the year supporting The Story So Far and Superheaven across the U.S. as well. In addition to repping the Lihc community that has spawned so many other amazing bands, Drummer Sal Argento and singer Joey Chiaramonte also rep their anime fandom on their sleeve, even going so far as to have an Alphonse themed snare on tour with them at all times. I spoke with both Argento and Chiaramonte to learn more about their Japan tour, similar formative experiences with Hunter x Hunter , and...

"Hunter x Hunter" is one of the greatest anime of all time. Based on the manga of the same name by Yoshihiro Togashi, creator of "Yu Yu Hakusho," the story starts out as simple as they come — we follow Gon Freecss, a young boy who sets out on a journey to become a Hunter in order to find his dad.
It is a familiar premise to fans of action manga like "Naruto" and "Dragon Ball," but that is only the beginning, because "Hunter x Hunter" quickly evolves into a unique adventure like no other. Every story arc feels like part of an entirely different genre -- from a creature feature about mutant ants to a noir mystery and a fun video game adventure -- and the story constantly changes tone, setting, and even cast. It's so good and popular that "Hunter x Hunter" has been turned into an anime twice...

It is public knowledge that Masashi Kishimoto is actually a huge fan of Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter manga. In fact, he has also stated that the series inspired him to create several aspects of Naruto. However, it is the least surprising news given how widespread Hunter x Hunter‘s influence is.
In several interviews, Kishimoto has praised Yoshihiro Togashi and his concepts as well as their portrayal in the manga. Even the facial expressions of Naruto characters were inspired by Yoshihiro Togashi’s works. But one cover art of Naruto Shippuden went too far and looks almost like a copy of Togashi’s idea.

Yoshihiro Togashi created an indelible mark on the anime-manga industry with Yu Yu Hakusho, and then set it in stone with Hunter x Hunter. He is highly regarded for his storytelling prowess by both his contemporaries and his fans. But despite the successful track record, he is not always eager to accept the credit that he deserves.

Whenever asked about the success of his works in interviews, Togashi seems to take the humble way out and it’s admirable. Additionally, he has a unique thought-process that makes his interviews extremely intriguing.

Netflix’s One Piece Live Action has broken the shackles of the anime live adaptation failures. Production houses and directors were afraid to venture into the anime live adaptations genre after the continuous failures in that genre. After One Piece’s massive success, many have found the confidence to try their luck in the mentioned category.
One of the franchises that was inspired by One Piece Live Action is Gundam. Yoshiyuki Tomino’s masterpiece is 45 years old and will have a live-action movie released soon. Even though Gundam is quite a popular franchise, following One Piece’s footsteps might not be the right thing to do. Netflix has several pros, including the financial backing, which might be difficult for Legendary to match.

Yu Yu Hakusho is a staple of shonen anime and a series that has defined the ever-popular tournament arc. It’s also steeped in mythology and religion, most notably Shintoism, Buddhism and Taoism. With scamming a topic of current news and growing concern across Asia, Netflix’s “Tokyo Swindlers” is a timely addition to its slate of Japanese live-action programming.

Netflix is getting deeper into business with hit-making Japanese producer Aki Isoyama. The streamer revealed Thursday that it has signed an exclusive agreement to produce and distribute new series and films from Isoyama over the next five years. The deal continues Netflix’s increasingly bullish investments in the Japanese content space.
Isoyama has been behind some of Netflix’s most successful Japanese drama titles of late. She executive produced the time-traveling comedy Extremely Inappropriate!, which topped Netflix’s most-watched list in Japan for three weeks this spring. The story of a single father who is mysteriously transported from 1986 to the present day, the series became something of a social phenomenon in Japan, tapping into the country’s mixed feelings over its growing embrace of international progressive ideals. The lighthearted show takes its title from the misplaced lead character’s frequently retrograde behavior — crude remarks, spanking kids, cigarette smoking everywhere — which...

For someone like Tite Kubo, inspiration has always been omnipresent. Bleach takes the best and worst of the world, combining them into one epic masterpiece. Mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi has been causing a storm on Twitter/X the past month. Why? Because he's revealed he's working on new chapters of his manga, "Hunter x Hunter." Every day since May 1, 2024, he has tweeted out a screenshot of the pages he completed that day (usually three).

Since 1998, Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has published 400 chapters of "Hunter x Hunter," all written and drawn by Togashi. (The first 339 of those chapters have been animated so far.) If this seems like a slow pace (Eiichiro Oda has crafted 1100+ chapters of "One Piece" in the same timeframe), it's because "Hunter x Hunter" has frequently gone on hiatuses due to Togashi suffering chronic back pain, leaving it difficult for him to draw. Fans can only guess when new chapters will come, which is why Togashi's consistent tweets have mouths watering.

The recent wave of live-action adaptations of popular series has caught up with many prominent anime and manga series like One Piece, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Naruto, Yu Yu Hakusho, etc. Fans are always hoping for their favorite anime and manga to get a live-action adaptation to experience their world more realistically.
Bleach Anime
However, Bleach fans might never be able to get this satisfaction. Bleach’s creator, Tite Kubo, once revealed that he doesn’t want Bleach to be adapted into a live-action series or movie because he drew the series specifically to be featured as a manga. He even went on to say that if Bleach’s live-action was possible, he wouldn’t have drawn the manga.
Despite this, Kubo’s magnum opus did receive a live-action adaptation movie in 2018, and it might not have been as successful as the One Piece live-action series, but it still got decent reception and reviews.

Leading Japanese TV producer Morii Akira and South Korea’s J.Q. Lee are joining forces to create an action-driven series built around a protagonist with special powers.
The pair are both currently riding high, developing or producing additional seasons for their recent hit shows. Morii is currently working on a third season of Netflix original, dystopian series “Alice in Borderland.” Lee is working on Season 2 of Korean hit “All of Us Are Dead.”
The untitled new series is pitched as “an action-packed spectacular drama, featuring a protagonist with unique abilities never before seen in movies or Japanese comics [and] promising an unprecedented viewing experience,” the pair said.
A long-form story arc is being completed before being fleshed out into episodic storylines. Shooting, production schedules and cast details will be announced in the future.
“We cannot disclose specific details at this time, but I can say that this project will feature an ingenious and unheard-of storyline.

He has also clarified that the studio is in the process of branding the company to introduce a new perspective, which will help them focus on both long-term and short-term series.

The much-awaited return of the ghost detectives on the silver screen is finally available on Netflix, and the fans seem to love it. Based on the DC Comics characters of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, the Netflix series is created by Steve Yockey and it follows the story of two ghost detectives who decide not to ascent to their afterlives to stay on Earth and investigate the crimes involving the supernatural. Dead Boy Detectives exists in the same universe as Netflix’s hit DC fantasy drama series The Sandman, and while it is different from The Sandman in its story and visuals, the Dead Boy Detectives seem to be connecting with the fans. So, if you loved the charm and supernatural shenanigans in Dead Boy Detectives here are some similar shows you should check out next.

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you love delinquent characters in anime. From Yu Yu Hakusho to Tokyo Revengers , there’s something special about a kid from the wrong side of the tracks (or one who at least acts like they’re from the wrong side of the tracks) slowly revealing that they’re a complex human being with a heart of gold. And both of the above series are layered from the beginning with questions of morality and themes regarding what it takes to be a good or bad person. In that sense, the spring 2024 release Wind Breaker cuts out the middleman. We don’t have to figure out whether or not we want to love the rough n’ tumble main characters. Why? Because everyone else already does. Related: 10 Anime Delinquents Too Good to be Bad For those that haven’t seen it, please give it a shot.

Arguably mangaka Yoshihiro Togashi’s second-best work, Yu Yu Hakusho, was released in 1990. It was a supernatural/detective manga that revolved around a deceased protagonist who gained the ability to stay on the mortal plane in a ghostly form on the condition of assisting in various paranormal investigations. A year later, in 1991, prolific comic-book writer Neil Gaiman adapted a similar concept in his Sandman universe created for DC Comics, and by adding his signature gothic flair to provide a macabre spin to children’s detective stories, he introduced Dead Boy Detectives to the world. The grim yet hopeful nature of the stories perfectly complemented the overall tone of his Sandman universe, and even though the later runs of Dead Boy Detectives have gradually become more sporadic in nature, they remain one of DC’s more experimental, character-driven stories, which highlights the overall versatile nature of the comic franchise.

Growing up I remember being told that anime was just a "phase" that we'd all get over. Rappers like Cochise prove that's not the case, making his love for anime known to anyone who listens to his music. "I’m a rapper out of Florida who loves to rap about cool things I experience in life, which makes anime so strong in my music," Cochise said in our interview and boy, did he mean it when he said the anime influence was strong . Related: Multi-Dimensional Recording Artist Iniko on Inspiring Shonen Anime and Characters That Fit Their Lyrics Cochise's hit song "Hatchback" has nods to several anime in its lyrics, whether it's giving Yu Yu Hakusho's Kuwabara a shout-out or talking about how he's in Tokyo (with his ghouls). The shonen genre in anime is one of the most popular, as a plethora of shows reach an insane level of popularity that is hard to match. However, this genre has a gem, which is Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter. Although the series has a faltering pace, Togashi-san’s manga remains one of the most popular manga series to be ever written.
Gon and Hisoka in the Hunter Exam arc
Both the manga and the anime are commercially successful, thanks to the series’ unorthodox style of narration and world development. However, the series would not have been so popular if it followed the original storyline that the artist had initially planned out in his mental map. Moreover, the series’ editor played a key role in changing the story of our adorable protagonist in the most important arc of the series.

Yoshihiro Togashi’s Yu Yu Hakusho is still considered to be one of the greatest shonen anime and manga series of all time. The anime series is something that many of us have grown up watching and it can be put into the same league as Sailor Moon and Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series. The Shonen series’ immense recognition and fan following, just demonstrates how influential and incredible the series was.

Despite Togashi-san’s manga series being so incredibly popular, the story came to an end. Generally, the sagas come to an end only to return with more tropes, characters, and new storylines. However, that was not the case here as Yoshihiro Togashi decided it was time to wrap up his magnum opus due to a selfish agenda, breaking the hearts of the fans in the process.

Yoshihiro Togashi is seen by many as one of the most influential manga artists ever. He created two very popular series, Hunter X Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho, which have had a big effect on manga.
Togashi has a special style that makes him different from other manga creators. As said by Jason Thompson, who is a critic for manga, Togashi’s first one-shot works were a mixture of comedy set in school and allusions to horror movies. This showed the flexibility and imaginative sight of Togashi.
At the age of 24, Togashi made a significant step forward with the introduction of YuYu Hakusho, a series combining supernatural elements and fighting comedy that was well-received by readers.

Yoshihiro Togashi, the man behind Hunter x Hunter, has another popular manga under his belt. In the 1990s, his Yu Yu Hakusho became one of the top sellers of Shonen Jump. In the late 1990s, he began the serialization of Hunter x Hunter, which later became one of the top-rated anime of all time. But initially, he had thought of a different plot instead of the mentioned anime.
Yoshihiro Togashi’s idea of a battle manga clicked with Yu Yu Hakusho. After Yu Yu Hakusho, he wanted to continue with his hot streak. So, had to give it a real thought and had to do some studies before finalising the work. Even though the fans got another great story in Hunter x Hunter, Yoshihiro Togashi shared how he came to stick to the story.

Yoshihiro Togashi will go down in history as one of the most underrated mangaka ever. He had a glorious career but never reached his peak due to his recurring back pain. In the early 1990s, Yu Yu Hakusho was a pretty popular anime, but due to back pain, Togashi sensei had to wrap up his manga hurriedly, thus ending on a different note than he desired.
Hunter x Hunter almost reached the same popularity as the Big Three of anime. Unfortunately, it also suffered the same fate. Gon Freecs’ journey is most likely to remain unfinished. Fans can doubt whether he will reach the end of his journey, but they cannot doubt that he is Ging Freecs’ son. In an interview, Yoshihiro Togashi confirmed a horrifying aspect about Hunter x Hunter’s protagonist.

Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto Shippuden ended seven years ago, while his rival, Eiichiro Oda, is yet to conclude his magnum opus. One Piece is currently in its Final Saga, and it might not be long before the anime finally comes to an end. One Piece began before Naruto and is still going strong even several years after Naruto’s end. So, many think it to be the better anime.
But one statement from Masashi Kishimoto can change the entire perspective of the fans. During an interview, he revealed an important fact about his magnum opus, which makes him a better mangaka than his rival. Eiichiro Oda is considered to be a genius, but after hearing Kishimoto sensei, people might understand how underrated the latter was.

In 2009, Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho, and Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto, sat together for an interview. It was to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Naruto and the interview was later shared in the Naruto 10th Anniversary Chronicle Book Mini.
Naruto
During the interview, both legendary manga creators shared their opinions about each other’s works and also talked about their experiences while working on their own masterpieces. Kishimoto also explained what kind of inspiration he received from Togashi’s works and how he used it in Naruto.
During the interview, Kishimoto talked about what he found interesting about Togashi’s mangas and how one of his characters became the inspiration behind Naruto and his famous shadow clone technique. The character in the discussion was Suzaku, the leader of the four saint beasts. His Prism of Seven technique laid the foundation for Naruto’s Shadow Clone Jutsu.

Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen has been quite open about the inspirations they took from other anime and manga series for their own masterwork. The creator has explained multiple times that they have been inspired by works like Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, and many more.

Akutami also took inspiration from Naruto for one of the biggest villains in their magnum opus. The villain was none other than Kenjaku, who is the perpetrator of the Culling games. Censoring Streamers
Malaysia’s Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has said that he plans to hold meetings with the Communications Ministry with a view to extending the remit of the country’s Film Censorship Board (Lpf) to video streamers. Currently, the Lpf has jurisdiction over theatrical releases, but not content carried on the internet.
Malaysia has been notable in demanding cuts – sometimes refused by rights holders – to imported and local films, especially where they touch on religion or homosexuality, even tangentially. Hollywood films “Thor” and “Lightyear” were both banned. Last year, local director Amanda Nell Eu denounced the censored cut of her prize-winning film “Tiger Stripes.”
Speaking in parliament, Saifuddin said “the Lpf will not approve the screening of any films that promote LGBTQ, communism, Islamophobia, and those conflicting Islamic beliefs.”

In the latest surge of live action adaptations that Netflix seems to lead, either in movie or series format, an essentially forgotten anime and manga from the 90s, was not exactly something that was expected, considering that the rest were based on all time favorites like “One Piece” and “Rurouni Kenshin” for example. It turns out, though, that the manga being one of the best selling of all times played a crucial role, and that is how we ended up with a version of “Yu Yu Hakusho”.

After myriad failures, Netflix finally seems to have learned the formula to successfully translate anime and animated features into live action, as seen from their recent adaptations of classics like One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Alice in Borderland. The streaming conglomerate’s latest venture, the newly released adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender, is another step in that positive direction, which, albeit not flawless, has the potential to carry forward the Avatar universe, spanning through various spin-offs and print media continuations.
One of the major factors that acts both as an advantage and a drawback in the case of such adaptations is the chance of tweaking the original structure while retelling a narrative, which is occasionally done to include hints for an upcoming storyline. As a fan of fighting games, Tekken 8 was pretty high on my video games of 2024 list. I’ve been playing the games since the very beginning, back when there were only eight characters until you unlocked the rest. Tekken has always been a unique franchise to me, from the ongoing Mishima family “let me grab my popcorn” mess to the fact that some of the lore is unapologetically bizarre. You’d think the multiple bear characters were a joke, but not only are they part of the ongoing story, they aren’t even the weirdest fighter you can pick — and I love every minute of it. Reacher began its second season with big viewing-time numbers, cementing its status as one of the most popular shows on Amazon’s Prime Video.
The series based on Lee Child’s novels had 1.69 billion minutes of watch time for the week of Dec. 11-17; season two’s first three episodes debuted Dec. 15 (viewing time for the week also includes the eight episodes of season one). That’s within 10 percent of Reacher’s total for its series premiere week (1.84 billion minutes) in February 2022, when Prime Video released the entire season at once. Season two is on a weekly release pattern after the opening three-episode salvo.
The 1.69 billion minutes for Reacher put the series in second place overall in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week. Netflix’s movie Leave the World Behind repeated as the overall No. 1 title, edging up to 1.95 billion minutes of viewing from 1.92 billion the previous week.
