Exclusive: Cameron Crowe has signed with CAA. The Oscar, BAFTA and Grammy winner’s career features some of the most iconic movie titles of the past five decades, dating back to his debut feature film screenwriting effort Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Starring Sean Penn, it was based on a book Crowe wrote after spending a year undercover as a student at Clairemont High School in San Diego.

Crowe would go on to direct such classics as Say Anything, Singles and Jerry Maguire. The latter, starring Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger, was nominated for five Academy Awards including Original Screenplay and Best Picture. Crowe’s screenplay received the Pen Literary Award and a DGA nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film.

After scripting the beloved fashion-world dramedy The Devil Wears Prada, starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt, which grossed over $326 million worldwide in its June 2006 debut, Aline Brosh McKenna has been tapped to script a sequel in early development at Disney, sources have confirmed to Deadline.

The film heading into production in New York this summer watches as a young Dylan (Chalamet) shakes up the music world in 1965, as he pivots to performing with an electric guitar for the first time. Like last year, the announcement for the 74th Emmy Awards nominations will take place virtually. Smoove, Fumero and TV Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma will reveal this year’s nods live online, via a stream on Emmys.com.

“It’s been another exceptional year of television with an abundance of remarkable programs and performances,” said Scherma. “We are thrilled to have Jb and Melissa on board to help us celebrate the extraordinary shows, producers, storytellers and talent that continue to shape and elevate our dynamic medium.”

Nomination voting for this year’s Emmys ended on Monday at 10 p.

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Melissa Fumero and Emmy-winning actor-comedian J.B. Smoove will be announcing the 74th Emmy Award nominations in a virtual ceremony July 12 alongside Television Academy chairman and CEO Frank Scherma, the organization said Thursday.

The ceremony, which will stream live on Emmys.com beginning at 8:30 a.m. Pt, will reveal which of the year’s qualifying series have scored nods to be among the competition for awards in September. Nominations-round voting was completed on Monday.

The May 26 series finale of “Ellen” yielded a season high 1.8 rating among adults 18-49, according to live + same day Nielsen data. The number marks a 30 percent improvement from the ratings of the show at the same time last year, and a 64 percent improvement over ratings for the show from the week prior. The run of episodes that week garnered a 1.3 rating, up 18 from the week before.

“Ellen” had been steadily improving in ratings as the show reached its announced end date. Over a two week period prior to the show’s end date, the show’s rating rose by 44 percent and averaged a daily growth of 568,000 viewers in its audience. After a decline in his health this year, Bart died peacefully at home over the weekend in Heber City, Utah, it was announced Monday by Ryan Lutey, executive director of the Vital Ground Foundation.

Titled “Badass (And Her Sister),” the series focuses on an impossibly badass spy (Bloom) who tires of her life of sexy espionage goes to live with her pushover twin sister (also played by Bloom) and, together, they learn what it means to actually be badass.

Brosh McKenna and Bloom would serve as writers, co-showrunners, and executive producers on the series. ABC Signature is the studio. Brosh McKenna and her Lean Machine are currently under an overall deal at ABC Signature.

July is the month that North America goes back to the movies in earnest. There have already been some theatrical release of note this summer, but as everyone knows the blockbuster movie season doesn’t get started until a Marvel movie premieres. Thankfully, with its list of new releases for July 2021, Disney+ is offering up some options for those who prefer to stay home.

In addition to arriving in theaters on July 9, Black Widow will premiere on Disney+ as well. Disney+ subscribers can purchase the first Marvel movie released since 2019 for $29.99. Judging by the early buzz, that “Premier Access” price may be worth it. Disney+ is keeping the original summer movie parade going in July with The Rock’s latest action film, Jungle Cruise, premiering on July 30.
