Shares a similar premise to the short-lived CBS show Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (2016), which was also about a team of FBI agents working internationally. Alana De La Garza, who portrays Isobel Castille in the FBI franchise, was the female lead in the series, Clara Seger. The series was the second spin-off from Criminal Minds (2005) after the also short-lived Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior (2011).
International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) is an organization administered by the United States Dept. of State. It was established at the end of the Cold War in 1995 by US President Clinton as a means of bringing together international law enforcement to reduce crime, combat terrorism, and share in knowledge and training, especially for the newly-freed Eastern bloc countries which were under the domain of Soviet Union, to construct democratic and criminal prosecution systems characterized by the rule of law. There are four regional facilities : ILEA San Salvador, ILEA Budapest, ILEA Bangkok, and ILEA Gaborone, Botswana. A fifth facility can be found in Roswell, New Mexico, which caters to executive level Law Enforcement Officers from signatory countries which affirmed the agreement. The program was developed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and is modeled on the FBI Academy at Quantico. The FBI and other Federal Law Enforcement Agencies participate in this program.
In the series appear some High-ranking Military Officers with stars on their caps and shoulders (from one to four) in their uniforms. They mean:

- Two Stars: Major General.
- Three Stars: Lieutenant General.
- Four Stars: General.
