Critics are in agreement that does not overstay its welcome, feeling just right with its runtime that keeps the pace flowing nicely without any dull moments. Schwarzenegger, who plays privileged Saxton Ratliff in the Mike White-created HBO series, is the son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver.

“I know there are people who’ll say I only got this role because of who my dad is,” Schwarzenegger told The Sunday Times. “They’re not seeing that I’ve had 10 years of acting classes, put on school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on.”

The best Lukas Gage movies and TV shows are impressive for such a young actor. Three years have gone by since we heard that Olivia Scott Welch of Shudder’s The Sacrifice Game and Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy would be starring in writer/director George Baron’s feature debut The Blue Rose, which is described as a surreal, genre-bending noir film… and now we finally know when we’re going to have a chance to see The Blue Rose. Big Bad could give Landon an opportunity to explore a new subgenre of horror after bringing many others to the screen.

Former Scream 7 director Christopher Landon has signed on to helm the new movie Big Bad. Although Landon was previously attached to direct the Scream sequel, he stepped down following production company Spyglass' decision to fire star Melissa Barrera after she shared pro-Palestine posts on social media. Shortly afterward, it was announced that her co-star Jenna Ortega had also dropped out of the project, for unspecified reasons.

Josh Andrés Rivera is set to play Aaron Hernandez in “American Sports Story” at FX, Variety has confirmed. In addition, Patrick Schwarzenegger will star as Tim Tebow.

“American Sports Story” was originally ordered at FX back in August 2021. It is designed to be a scripted anthological limited series focusing on a prominent event and/or figure in the sports world, but seen through today’s lens and told through multiple perspectives. The first season is based on the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc” from the Boston Globe and Wondery.

It will examine the “rise and fall” of Hernandez, including looking into his identity, his family, his career, his death and his legacy. Hernandez was a tight end for the New England Patriots of the NFL before he was convicted for murder. He ultimately took his own life in prison in 2017.

One of the hardest big screen losses during the quick shuttering and slow reopening of cinemas during the pandemic was the lack of a major audience for body swap comedy horror Freaky, a snappy crowd-pleaser that never really had the chance to truly please a substantial crowd. Writer-director Christopher Landon’s niftily effective and surprisingly sensitive mash-up of Friday the 13th and Freaky Friday was bundled into multiplexes when audiences were still staying away, and as such, remains cruelly under-seen.

Like Landon’s previous work – writing scripts for Disturbia and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and directing Happy Death Days 1 and 2 – it showcased a buoyancy of tone that ensured fun was being had even when frightening things were happening. In the mood for a good haunting but don’t want to be scared?

Then, you might want to check out the new trailer for We Have a Ghost. The comedy is a Netflix original starring the streaming service’s Stranger Things star, David Harbour, and Anthony Mackie. The movie looks to have a fun twist on the typical tropes of a family moving into a new home in a new town that knows of rumors of an apparition in said home. Harbour’s spectre is the friendliest ghost outside of Casper and hijinks ensue when he and Mackie’s family start co-existing as local celebrities.

The original 1990 horror-comedy starring Jeff Daniels watched as a species of South American killer spiders hitched a lift to the U.S. in a coffin—subsequently beginning to breed and kill within a small California town. Frank Marshall directed in his feature debut, with Julian Sands, Harley Jane Kozak and John Goodman rounding out the cast. Walt Disney Studios subsidiary Hollywood Pictures produced the pic, which grossed 53.21M against a 22M budget.

Exclusive: Will Peltz (Unfriended), Sarah Dumont (Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse) and Sydelle Noel (Glow) have signed on to star alongside Frank Grillo, Jaime King, Katherine Hughes and Josh Plasse in the horror-thriller Man’s Son, with Voltage Pictures coming aboard to launch international sales ahead of the upcoming Marché du Film.

The XYZ Films title from director Remy Grillo centers on a young couple (Hughes and Plasse) hoping to create an aesthetically pleasing audition tape for an up-and-coming Charles Manson film. When they choose an eclectic desert Airbnb as the perfect backdrop, the dark events of the audition material slowly slip into their reality, until they find themselves intertwined in an occult, sinister plot led by King and Grillo’s characters.

Plasse and Brev Moss wrote the script, which is inspired by modern occult activity in the California desert, with production to kick off in Yucca Valley, California this month.

Exclusive: Bj McDonnell, the director of the buzzed-about Foo Fighters horror-comedy Studio 666, set for release on February 25 via Open Road Films, has signed with UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment.

McDonnell’s latest feature follows members of the legendary rock band Foo Fighters as they move into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much-anticipated 10th album. Foo Fighters band members Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee star alongside Whitney Cummings, Leslie Grossman, Will Forte and Jenna Ortega.

McDonnell, who is also a writer, producer and camera operator, made his feature directorial debut with the 2013 horror-comedy Hatchet III. He also previously wrote and directed three music videos for the thrash metal band Slayer, helming the music video “The Beatings Will Continue (Until Morale Improves)” for the band Exodus, along with the feature, Slayer: The Repentless Killogy.

Joey Morgan, the actor who made his debut in 2015’s Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and garnered additional attention for his performance in the Max Winkler’s 2017 Tribeca Film Festival premiere Flower, died yesterday at the age of 28. A cause of death has not been disclosed.

“Joey Morgan came into my life nearly 9 years ago when I made Scouts,” tweeted Christopher Landon, director of the comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse. “He was quiet, funny, intelligent and thoughtful. And when the cameras rolled he was magnetic. He passed today and the news is heartbreaking. I am honored to have known him.”

Netflix has tapped Christopher Landon to write and direct We Have a Ghost, a family adventure film that will star Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), David Harbour (Black Widow), Jahi Di’Allo Winston (Charm City Kings), Tig Notaro (Army of the Dead), Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus) and more.

The film centers on Kevin, who finds a ghost named Ernest haunting his new home. Kevin subsequently becomes an overnight social media sensation, along with his family. But when he and Ernest go rogue to investigate the mystery of the latter’s past, they become targets of the CIA.

Landon is penning the script, based on Geoff Manaugh’s short story, “Ernest.” Dan Halsted is producing, alongside Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Isaac Klausner. The project’s executive producers are Christopher Landon, John Fischer, Geoff Manaugh, Korey Budd and Nathan Miller.

While the No. 1 exhibitor AMC has traditionally been flexible about theatrical windows despite their pubic uproar against Universal last year, the chain’s CEO Adam Aron speculated today what the landscape would look like when we come out of this pandemic.

“What we learned from the Universal agreement, is that every studio seems to have different desires and needs. I’m expecting there will be custom agreements that will be developed studio by studio, and differ circuit by circuit,” said Aron speaking to how the majors are varying their distribution patterns for movies.

Drive All Night follows Dave (Yutaka Takeuchi), a reclusive swing-shift taxi driver, whose night takes an unexpected turn after he picks up a mysterious passenger, Cara (Lexy Hammonds), a young woman hiding a dark secret. As she makes him drive through the city on a series of bizarre excursions, things get increasingly more surreal the further into the night they go. Actor Tye Sheridan is wearing a different hat with his new media-tech startup — which he claims will let indie filmmakers deliver blockbuster-level VFX on a fraction of the budget.

Sheridan (above right) co-founded Wonder Dynamics with visual-effects artist Nikola Todorovic (above left). Over the last four years, the duo have been quietly experimenting with using artificial intelligence and machine learning to create interactive video applications. Now Wonder Dynamics is gearing up to introduce a new AI production tool that they promise will let independent artists produce dazzling VFX and CGI animations for far less than is required today.

“It breaks down the barriers to achieving your wildest vision,” Sheridan told Variety. “A lot of times people dream up this story but it’s not possible to make because it would cost $200 million. AI can democratize VFX.”

The horror genre loves its tropes — sets of rules that dictate survival based on stereotypes around morality, class, race, gender and sexual orientation.

Much of the game in modern horror comes in examining and subverting those tropes, perhaps none so recent and notable as “Freaky,” Christopher Landon’s body-swap film from Universal Pictures that hits PVOD on Friday.

Dressed up as a gory comedy, “Freaky” offers liberating and honest portraits of young women and queer people, free from tokenism and broad generalizations to which the genre can often resort.

In “Freaky,” a struggling teen girl Millie (Kathryn Newton) and a menacing serial killer (Vince Vaughn) switch bodies thanks to a supernatural artifact.
