I hate to sound like a Boomer here, but kids today have it easy. No, not because they use their phones to do book reports or the internet to look at porn. It’s that entertainment intended for kids nowadays is put under such a high-powered microscope that absolutely nothing objectionable will slip through. In previous generations, kids entertainment was a free-for-all filled with hidden sex jokes and terrifying characters that would fuel their nightmares for years after a single viewing.
All the covert sex jokes have been well covered, but it’s time we finally address all those creepy, objectionable characters that were aimed at us as kids, many of whom still haunt the corners of our subconscious.

The 3rd Annual Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, hosted this year by voiceover actor Eric Bauza are under way at Television City in Los Angeles. Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” leads this year’s nominations, with 16 nods, including for young teen series — which it won over competitors such as Disney+’s “Goosebumps,” Netflix’s “Heartstopper,” Netflix’s “One Piece” and Roku Channel’s “The Spiderwick Chronicles.”

Besides the young teen series prize, it won for writing for a young teen series, directing for a single camera live action program, editing for a single camera live action program, visual effects for a live action program, show open, casting for a live action program and music direction and composition for a live action program. “It is such a privilege to get to create stories that bring joy, magic and wonder to kids and families,...

Okay, if I’m going to be honest, if your parents can tolerate crass language, and you don’t end up retreating into an awkward silence if someone says a bad word on screen, then you can very much enjoy The Parenting with your family. But before we go into the whys, let me just tell you about the what. The Parenting is a horror comedy, not unlike the Ghostbusters or Goosebumps films, that tells the story of a young gay couple who want to have their first ever family getaway in the middle of nowhere. Rohan (affectionately called Ro by his boyfriend Josh), who has the most common brown boy Bollywood name (second only to Rahul), is the one who has set everything up because he plans on proposing to his one true love, Josh. In your typical Meet The Parents situation, Ro worries that Josh might not make...

Even the biggest actors can have some of the more humble or awkward beginnings. It's part and parcel of being a movie star; it's not as if A-Listers just arrive fully formed based on the roles with which we associate them most. Sometimes, actors have to put themselves deeply into stage roles, one-off appearances on TV shows, or a solid amount of supporting film roles before they can step up to the big time.
And then, of course, there are the myriad pitfalls of being a child actor. Some actors who start out when they're young in notable shows or films have an awfully hard time making the transition from youth to adult, as much because the industry may have pigeonholed them or audiences themselves can't accept a kid in a new position. (That's especially true when it comes to former Disney/teen idols.)
All that said, consider Ryan Gosling.

According to Disney, the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again has assembled some superhero-level views on the streaming service. The studio announced today that the highly-anticipated series has garnered 7.5 million views in its first five days, making it the biggest streaming debut of the year on Disney+ (so far). A view is defined as total stream time divided by runtime.
This number puts Daredevil: Born Again ahead of the launches of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Paradise, but it’s slightly behind the last live-action Marvel series on Disney+, as Agatha All Along drew 9.3 million views during its first week.
Related Elden Henson will be back for Daredevil: Born Again season 2
The official synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again reads: “Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his...

Daredevil: Born Again has come out of the gate swinging, landing the best debut on Disney+ of the year. A continuation of the Daredevil series that aired from 2015 to 2018, Born Again was one of the most anticipated MCU Disney+ series in some time. Despite claims of Marvel fatigue or that the MCU has not been as good since Avengers: Endgame, there is no denying that most audiences were excited to see Daredevil rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe and even the most skeptical fan might have been curious to check out Born Again.
The Wrap reports that Daredevil: Born Again debuted to 7.5 million views globally in its first 5 days of streaming on Disney+ according to internal streaming figures from Disney itself. The following contains light spoilers for Night of the Zoopocalypse, in theaters now.
Night of the Zoopocalypse combines kid-friendly physical CG animation and self-aware absurdism with survival horror in an endearing parody of the genre. Directed by Ricardo Curtis and starring Gabbi Kosmodis, Thunderbolts* star David Harbour and Pierre Simpson, Night of the Zoopocalypse is a story so ridiculous, so laughable, so gross and completely unoriginal that it works. In fact, it works much better than expected.
Night of the Zoopocalypse is predictable -- and that's the point. It has been a long time since a children's film has been so self-aware – competently and hilariously so. This is a post-modern horror-comedy that draws attention to how absurd horror and zombie movies really are without mean-spiritedness or introspective cynicism. And it all falls together to create a solid, enjoyable and genuinely humorous viewing experience for both kids and their parents.

There are plenty of haunted houses — and hotels and summer camps — in horror movies, but some of the most disturbing cinematic scares are thanks to evil objects. Like the eponymous toy in Oz Perkins’ new movie “The Monkey,” his follow-up to last year’s “Longlegs.”
While some things are obviously not going to be good news, like the hand of a dead man, any inanimate object can be cursed, whether it’s a TV, video tape, or mirror.
Here are more cursed object movies in horror movies we’ll never forget.

Subhash K Jha revists Nutan’s career and shines the light on her finest film in this special feature.
Bimal Roy made many moving movies marked as masterpieces for milleniums. Bandini remains just that bit more special than Devdas or Madhumati. Why? Just…
Nutan had almost given up films after marriage. But like Yash Chopra, who made Raakhee an offer which she couldn’t resist (Kabhi Kabhie), Bimal Roy tempted the titanic actress — and would Kate Winslet please mover over? — out of married bliss to play what the director promised would be the role of Nutan’s lifetime.
Nutan’s tempestuous performance as Kalyani embedded her name in gold in the hall of fame. Along with Nargis in Mother India, Meena Kumari in Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, and Shabana Azmi in Arth, Nutan in Bandini is the most arresting character written for a mainstream Hindi heroine of the pre-70s era.

Classic horror entries like The Thing, Alien, and even The Shining wield isolation as a weapon, trapping their protagonists in place and leaving them perilously vulnerable to threats- inhuman or otherwise – to evoke chills. It’s a simple tool that horror frequently exploits for maximum discomfort, whether physically, psychologically, or even socially. No matter how filmmakers insulate their characters, it results in despair and loneliness for the characters and chilling unease for the viewer. This week’s streaming picks center around isolation-based horror movies.

Before kids got into Stephen King, Scholastic Book Fairs introduced them to the tween horror maestro: R.L. Stine. The author's best known for his "Goosebumps" books, an anthology series where each book introduced a new horror for some intrepid young protagonist to confront. Werewolves, mud monsters, and Slappy the dummy, the last of whom Stine never understood the fanbase for, all gave us nightmares. But hey, at least we were reading!
"Goosebumps" is far from Stine's only enterprise, as he's also the visionary behind the "Fear Street" and "Mostly Ghostly" books, too. It should come as no surprise that many of his works have been adapted into films and TV shows over the years. Some you've undoubtedly heard of before while others will make you go, "Wait, that's an R.L. Stine project?"
Consider it homework to expand your Stine repertoire, and in case you don't have the time to watch all of them,...

Despite being one of the most popular superhero TV series, The Boys and its lead actor, Antony Starr, are yet to receive their due recognition. The critical acclaim and high viewership number aside, the series also saw one of the best villain performances from Starr as Homelander. CBS has lined up Justin Long, Kara Royster, Hunter King and Angelique Cabral to guest star in the Season 7 finale of The Neighborhood which will serve as a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff series.
The quartet have options to become series regulars if CBS moves forward with the planted spinoff for the 2025-26 season and will star on the proposed series alongside The Neighborhood’s Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney who will move onto the offshoot.
The premise of the spinoff echoes that of the mothership in reverse. It follows Marty (Spears) and Malcolm (McKinney) Butler as they embark on new adventures, finally leaving their parents’ nest to start the next chapters of their lives, finding themselves the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close by yet worlds apart: Venice Beach.
Long will play Bruce, a tech millionaire who is a mix of unjustified confidence and social ineptitude.

There is a wildcard at every wedding, but in the case of “You’re Cordially Invited,” there are two. And they are played by Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon.
Now streaming on Prime, the film directed by Nicholas Stoller centers on two families who unknowingly double book their weddings at the same small inn — an inn that can really only accommodate one wedding. For Jim (Ferrell), it is his daughter’s, and for Margot (Witherspoon), it is her sister’s. Naturally, the two immediately go insane, trying to force the other to back down.
Somehow, Ferrell and Witherspoon have never led a comedy together, but they are doing it now with a very familiar cast.
Here are the major players you need to know.

Jim is Jenni’s dad, who has been raising her on his own for years since his wife’s death.

Look alive, Shadysiders, Netflix has just revealed the first images from Fear Street: Prom Queen, and it appears as if we're in for a bloody good time. The latest installment in the popular horror franchise that kicked off in 2021 is set to return later this year, and this time around, will focus on the students of Shadyside High as they prepare to crown the 1988 prom queen. However, when an unusual nominee emerges in the race, some of the other candidates begin to vanish without a trace.
Based on the novel by R.L. Stine, Fear Street: Prom Queen will be the fourth installment in the franchise, and the new images (seen below) show what appears to be the mysterious killer dressed in a red rain slicker and black gloves, tormenting the "It Girls" of Shadyside High. We also see a yearbook displaying pictures of all the candidates, two girls trying to escape through a basement window,...

If ever there were a season in need of some lighthearted escapism, this winter would surely be it. So audiences may well embrace Amazon’s wedding comedy, “You’re Cordially Invited” — streaming on Prime January 30th — as the equivalent of fast-food comfort. It’s familiar, it goes down easy, and you barely have to make an effort. But when it’s over, you’ll either instantly forget it or wonder why you’ve got such a sour taste in your mouth.
The most surprising thing about this by-the-numbers comedy, in fact, is that it comes to us from writer-director Nicholas Stoller. He updated Kermit & Co. so delightfully in “The Muppets,” tartly reconceived the revenge rom-com with “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and scored on the small screen with both “Platonic” and the updated “Goosebumps.”
So it’s tempting to assume that Stoller’s participation here is akin to that of a franchise owner: he set up shop,...

The Boys is one show that thrives on chaos, satire, and morally ambiguous characters. Among all the twisted supes and humans, two figures who stand out are Victoria Neuman, the secretive “head-popper,” and Homelander, the poster child for unhinged power.
Claudia Doumit and Antony Starr as Victoria Neuman and Homelander in The Boys | Prime Video
Both of these personas are full of mystery and conflict, and even though they do interact a fair bit in the show, a potential face-off between the two sounds interesting. But can Neuman take down the most powerful Supe, i.e., Homelander, here’s what fan theories suggest!

There’s no Goosebumps without R.L. Stine but there’s also no Goosebumps without Tim Jacobus, the artist who contributed the eye-catching cover paintings for the entire original line of Stine’s books. If you’re a fan of those classic covers that helped define the Goosebumps property back in the 1990s, you definitely should be following Tim Jacobus over on Instagram.
Jacobus regularly shares classic Goosebumps art as well as brand new artwork on his Instagram page, and this week he’s shared a particularly awesome little treat for horror fans.
As Jacobus explains in his post, he was commissioned several years back by a group of fans to make a poster for Fred Dekker’s The Monster Squad in that classic Tim Jacobus/Goosebumps style, and though it was merely a private commission for private collectors, he’s decided to share the poster art this week so that...

The second season of the new Goosebumps TV series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, which is inspired by the works of author R.L. Stine, made its premiere on Disney+ and Hulu earlier this month – and during an interview with Deadline, Stine revealed that, if the Goosebumps adaptations continue, he would like to see an adaptation of one of his more recent books: Goblin Monday.
The first season of Goosebumps centered on a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle — while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past. The show is taking the anthology route, so the second season has “an entirely new cast and setting based on Stine’s iconic Scholastic book series.” Season 2 will also consist of eight episodes, two shorter than the first season. Friends made its debut in 1994 and immediately, the show’s popularity grew to reach newer heights of fame. The six lead stars were adorable and their on-screen characters were equally iconic.

Running for a whopping 10 seasons, the show probably wouldn’t have reached this far if it weren’t for a few budget-cutting tricks. In today’s world, however, one episode with the highest budget-cutting is now the most hated Friends episode of all time.
The one where they saved the budget for Friends
It was a different time. It was a different era when these sitcoms would run for hundreds of episodes on television all over America back in the day. Well, it is quite a strenuous task to make a show go on for a decade.

The producers behind Disney+’s Goosebumps: The Vanishing revealed that if the show is renewed for a third season, they will keep the anthology format.
The series' first season followed the same group of characters and plot (consisting of elements from several key Goosebumps stories). It even ended on a cliffhanger—yet Disney surprised everyone upon its renewal when it revealed that Season 2 would follow a new cast of characters entirely.
Season 2 followed through on that promise, moving the action to Brooklyn, New York, and making the legendary David Schwimmer a key player in the show’s take on Stay Out of the Basement (which involves a plant monster).

After Goosebumps: The Vanishing's public release, it continued to conceal the two-part finale in a clever cover-up. Goosebumps was originally a book series by the popular author, R.L. Stine, but the popularity and virality of Stine's stories exploded when these stories were adapted into an anthology TV series where each episode would explore a different story. The popularity of which meant the show continued for 4 seasons, with a total of 74 episodes that continued to air and repeat for many years.
Then, in 2023, the show got a reboot with a new style of anthology format, where each season features a different cast and follows a single story for several episodes. Goosebumps: The Vanishing is the second season in this new format, and in order to keep the big twist ending under wraps, the show had to employ some unique tactics after its release. Friends’ theme song may have been “I’ll Be There for You,” but the sitcom, more than 30 years after it premiered, has been there for several generations. One of the show’s stars, David Schwimmer, who can currently be seen in the new Hulu/Disney+ series, Goosebumps: The Vanishing, says that three decades later he still realizes how meaningful the show is to him and to the fans.
“What’s really meaningful to me is when I’ll bump into someone on the street and they’ll say, ‘I just want you to know, I was going through a really tough time, I was in the hospital,’ whatever. ‘And the thing that kept me going was watching Friends,” Schwimmer told GamesRadar+. For Manish Raval and Tom Wolfe, the duo behind Goosebumps: The Vanishing’s music supervision, playing in the sandbox of ’90s music is an opportunity to channel their childhoods. “It’s our soft spot,” Raval tells The Hollywood Reporter.
That connection and appreciation both music supervisors have for the turn of the century’s endless library of hits is particularly useful in the Disney+ and Sony Television Studios series, which taps into R.L. Stines’ younger Gen X, Millennial and ‘90s-adjacent Gen Z audience via the show’s multiple timelines.
“Going into Goosebumps, there wasn’t really a direction or specific vision in mind. We just knew we had a popular book series to support,” Raval says. “But we did know that we wanted to jump back and forth with time periods and that a lot of that story would be anchored in the music. So when we would jump back to the ’90s,...

Shadyside's curse may have been broken in Fear Street Part 3: 1666, but there is even more terror on the horizon in Fear Street: Prom Queen. Following the wildly successful Fear Street trilogy on Netflix, the project was originally pitched as the start of a greater anthology franchise, and there are plenty of R.L. Stine books to draw from. Directed by Leigh Janiak, Fear Street's story is told over three movies that take place in 1994, 1978 and 1666, respectively, and pays homage to horror classics like Scream and Friday the 13th.
Set in the small town of Shadyside, the trilogy follows a group of teens as they try to survive a witch's curse that periodically causes a Shadysider to become possessed and go on a brutal killing spree. Their investigation takes them all the way back to the source of the curse in 1666, when a local witch named Sarah Fier was hanged...

With his new movie "Wolf Man," Leigh Whannell becomes the latest filmmaker to tackle the titular shape-shifting classic Universal monster on the screen. In his review of Whannell's re-imagining, /Film's Jeremy Mathai observed that the film "reinvents the title character and its accompanying curse as a moody, atmospheric thriller that cares just as much (if not more) about the family at the center of this tragedy as the actual scares."
Part of what makes werewolf movies unique is that these are not just monsters, but also people who transform back and forth between being monster and human. This allows the werewolf movie to be versatile; rather than having to rely on their characters to keep coming around to encounter the monster for the convenience of the plot, the monster stays with the characters throughout these films, hiding amongst them, until it's too late. Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Goosebumps (2023) and Goosebumps: The Vanishing
While Goosebumps: The Vanishing’s ending is better than season 1’s unresolved cliffhanger, it does owe a lot of inspiration to a certain Netflix show. 2023’s Goosebumps adaptation updated Rl Stine's classic series of children’s horror novels from the ‘90s by turning them into a blend of small-town supernatural mystery and teen drama. This mix occasionally felt tonally uneasy but, by Goosebumps season 1’s finale, it was hard not to care for the show’s young heroes. As such, Goosebumps season 1 ending on a cliffhanger was frustrating for viewers who wanted closure from the show.

His fingerprints are all over the successful revivals of the Bad Boys franchise, the animated Spider-Verse films, Ghostbusters, the Venom $1 billion+ series as well as the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man movies which have minted close to $4B alone. The release of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home stands as the 7th highest grossing movie of all-time, the best ever for Sony, with $1.95 billion worldwide and $814.8M domestic.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Goosebumps (2023) and Goosebumps: The Vanishing
Although Goosebumps: The Vanishing does borrow the best twist from the source novel series, the show squanders this revelation. 2023’s Goosebumps adaptation might have borrowed certain plot points and scenes from Rl Stine’s iconic ‘90s novel series, but the show mostly used the Goosebumps books as a launch pad. Season 1’s mixture of teen drama and a small-town supernatural mystery took elements from titles like The Cuckoo Clock of Doom and Say Cheese and Die but, by Goosebumps season 1’s ending, it was clear the show had a personality and storyline of its own.

With Goosebumps: The Vanishing now released on Disney+, some audiences are confused about its connections to the 2023 Goosebumps series.
A lot of the confusion stems from the fact that, despite The Vanishing being Season 2 of the Goosebumps series and sharing the same creative team, it is listed as a separate show on the streaming platform.
When the show was first renewed in February 2024, it was revealed that the new season would take on an anthology format, telling an entirely new overarching story with a fresh cast of characters.

Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Goosebumps (2023) and Goosebumps: The Vanishing
Although Goosebumps: The Vanishing’s ending is more self-contained than the finale of its predecessor, the show still keeps a frustrating anthology trend alive. 2023’s Goosebumps reboot was a fun blend of teen drama and horror comedy that saw a group of teenagers battle against supernatural forces in the small town of Port Lawrence. Goosebumps season 1’s finale left the show’s hero in critical condition in a hospital after an encounter with the villain of the series, and this cliffhanger was left unresolved. However, Goosebumps: The Vanishing didn’t pick up where season 1 left off.
