Three years into its local production effort in Australia and New Zealand, Netflix has greenlighted two new series, one feature film and one full-length documentary from Australia.
These are in addition to previously announced renewals of teen series “Heartbreak High” and “Surviving Summer” and the go-ahead for prestige book-to-series adaptation “Boy Swallows Universe” and kids animation “Eddie’s Lil Homies.”
Set in the Australian Outback, epic succession tale “Desert King” revolves around billionaire miners, traditional owners, cowboys and desert gangsters fighting over the world’s biggest cattle station the size of Wales. It’s a hot, dusty, sexy Outback Western with guns and helicopters.
It is directed by Greg McLean and created by Tim Lee and Ben Davies, with production by Paul Ranford. The series is a co-production between Easy Tiger and Ronde.

Jodie Sweetin is speaking out after it was revealed her new movie would be a part of Great American Family's schedule.
The cable network has been scrutinized following Sweetin's one-time Full House costar Candace Cameron Bure's controversial sentiments about keeping "traditional marriages at the core" of the network's offerings.
Bure serves as the chief creative officer for the network and declared that she didn't think movies featuring LGBTQ+ couples would make their way to the cabler.
"I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core," she stated, while former Hallmark CEO Bill Abbott said in the same interview that it may not always be the case.
"It's certainly the year 2022, so we're aware of the trends," he told Wall Street Journal.
"There's no whiteboard that says, 'Yes, this' or 'No, we'll never go here.'"

Apple TV+ has extinguished City on Fire.
According to Deadline, the crime drama has been canceled after just one season.
The decision comes six weeks after the conclusion of City on Fire Season 1.
The series failed to garner much buzz, a surefire sign that a show is not long for this world.
We rarely get viewership statistics for streaming shows, so the buzz is the only indicator of success to observers.
City on Fire was saddled with terrible reviews from critics, with a 39% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Fans were considerably more positive, with an audience score of 78%.
Apple TV+ recently launched Silo, which became the most-watched drama, achieving considerable buzz and acclaim.
Hijack also seems ripe for success after breaking through in ways many shows haven't.

No news is good news... until it's bad news.
Apple TV+ has canceled its Uma Thurman drama series Suspicion after a single season.
Deadline first reported the news a year and a half after its freshman finale.
"When the son of a prominent American businesswoman (Thurman) is kidnapped from a New York hotel, the eye of suspicion quickly falls on four seemingly ordinary British citizens who were at the hotel on the night in question," the logline teased.
"As they find themselves in a trans-Atlantic cat and mouse race to evade the combined forces of the National Crime Agency and the F.B.I. to prove their innocence, it becomes apparent that not everyone can be trusted."
"Who is really behind the mysterious abduction, and who is only guilty of being in the wrong place at the wrong time?"
In addition to Thurman, the ensemble cast for Suspicion includes Kunal Nayyar (The Big Bang Theory...

BritBox has a proven track record for fine British drama, and the streaming service's August slate sounds very promising.
Headlined by Sleepy Hollow's Tom Mison and New Amsterdam's Janet Montgomery, The Ex-Wife will make its exclusive US debut on August 10.
Earlier in the month, the Scottish crime drama Granite Harbour featuring Romario Simpson, Hannah Donaldson (The Crown), and Katia Winter will debut on August 1.
Based on Jess Ryder's hit psychological thriller of the same name, The Ex-Wife tells the story of Tasha, a young woman who feels like she is living the dream: she has the perfect house, a loving husband, and a beautiful little girl.
But there's one large blot on Tasha's marital landscape: her husband's (Mison) ex-wife (Montgomery) won't leave them alone and seems intent on staying in the picture.
When Tasha returns home one day to find her life turned upside down, she realizes that the dream...

CBS is making some changes to its fall schedule in the wake of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
First up, the network hopes to expose Yellowstone to a bigger audience than before.
Yellowstone will make its broadcast debut by airing as part of the network's Sunday slate, paired up with 60 Minutes and Big Brother.
Yes, Big Brother is airing later in the fall this season and will also air later in the evening on Sundays.
For some reason, the network is banishing fresh episodes to 10 p.m. on that night.
Obviously, 60 Minutes will serve as a better lead-in for Yellowstone, but the move could harm the network's reliable reality staple.
Big Brother will also air Tuesdays and Thursdays in the 8 p.m. slot.
Thursdays will also consist of Buddy Games and The Challenge: USA but will switch things up later into the fall when those two reality shows conclude.

The CW is getting prepared for the fall season.
The network on Wednesday unveiled its fall premiere dates, and there are some changes vs. the schedule the network revealed earlier this year.
All American, which was set to remain on Mondays in the fall, has been pushed to midseason.
The scheduling shift isn't surprising: The WGA strike is ongoing, and there's a good chance a SAG-AFTRA strike will go ahead later this evening.
Moving the show off the fall schedule is a good move because there's no telling when new episodes will be ready for air.
The decision means all four returning CW dramas have been delayed until midseason.
All American: Homecoming, Superman & Lois, and Walker recently landed pickups for the 2023-24 season.
Canceled AMC series 61st Street, which was set to join All American on the fall schedule, has also been delayed.

The world of To All The Boys continues with Xo, Kitty, the new Netflix spinoff that sees Anna Cathcart’s Kitty embarking on a brand new adventure. The 10-episode series was released on May 18, two years after To All the Boys: Always and Forever, and makes unique changes to To All the Boys that help it stand apart from its beloved origins. The focus on Kitty rather than Lara Jean also gives the series an exciting chance to showcase a new perspective and go to bold new places (like Korea).
