Ok I've watched only 3 of the episodes of this Chilean kidnap story but wanted to write a review now so there's no danger I might leak anything that will spoil it for other viewers.
The reason for this is simple: joining a very short list of undeniably great tv crime series that excel in a single first season, usually short and standalone (Poland's The Mire, UK's Broadchurch season 1, US True Detectuve season 1, Denmark's The Killing, among them) this intense and claustrophobic examination of a suspected kidnapping of a well-to-do businessman's wife and the suspicions raised in the community but also in the wider family is stunning in every way: terrific actors, a nuanced utterly involving script and characters, spellbinding cinematography and locations...
Among the most compelling characters is the family lawyer whose efforts to redeem himself from some unspecified failure in his past instead of being the cliche it so often is comes over as genuinely moving, a nail biting minor plot in a story that, despite its short duration, packs in so much of life that you really feel for the characters, major and minor.
Seeing how good it was after only the first ten minutes, I planned to watch one episode per day and ration the others out; but I had to force myself to stop after three. And I'm writing this review now only to prevent myself from going back for more later tonight. Yes, really, it's that good. A highlight in the crime genre and in tv drama in general in recent years, from anywhere.
