This fall, Lifetime will take an uncharacteristic trip into horror lit with Big Driver, an adaptation of Stephen King’s same-named short story from his 2010 collection Full Dark, No Stars. Maria Bello stars in the grim and brutal pic, about an author who is brutally raped and assaulted by a truck driver, only to survive and return seeking vengeance.
The project is an unusual one for Lifetime, though the network has been branching out in recent years with increasingly dramatic original series like Witches of East End and The Lottery. Big Driver is also, like many of Lifetime’s programs, a tale of female empowerment led by a particularly steely protagonist.
Now, the suitably dark first trailer for the movie, which also stars Olympia Dukakis, Joan Gett, Ann Dowd and Will Harris, has arrived online. Check it out below, along with the official synopsis for the adaptation.

You would think that one of the more sensational murder trials of recent years would yield an equally salacious TV movie. In the case of "Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret," you would be wrong.
In its rush to get the movie on the air -- "Dirty Little Secret" was filming while Arias was still standing trial for the 2008 murder of Travis Alexander -- Lifetime chose to tell a by-the-numbers tale of passion gone wrong rather than the potentially compelling (if lurid) courtroom story that played out on news channels for weeks earlier this year.
Honestly, I thought I'd be doing a "X most outrageous things in the Jodi Arias movie" sort of post here, but "Dirty Little Secret" is no "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" in terms of camp factor. Instead, it's just a riff on "Fatal Attraction" with a less menacing murderess.
Tania Raymonde ("Lost") actually underplays her role as Arias a little bit,...

Two years ago, Chloe Sevigny was cast as infamous alleged murderess Lizzie Borden for a HBO mini-series, but we're still waiting for that to come to fruition. In the meantime, Lifetime is doing its own version of the story, and they've cast Christina Ricci in the title role. Lizzie was accused (and eventually acquitted) of killing her parents with an axe while they were sleeping one night in Fall River, Massachusetts in 1892.
After the highly-publicized trial, Lizzie went on to have a relationship with actress Nance O’ Neill, and she is often referred to as a lesbian. Love letters she'd written to a female friend were found after her death, and she also was known to have "women's gatherings" at her home. Plus historians like to point out she did not "enjoy the company of men." All signs point to lez.

Long before Amanda Knox, Casey Anthony and Jodi Arias, there was another young American woman on a trial for murder that became a media spectacle. I’ve learned exclusively that Christina Ricci has been tapped to play Lizzie Borden in a Lifetime original movie about the woman tried and acquitted in the 1892 ax murders of her father and stepmother. Directed by Nick Gomez and produced by Sony Pictures Television, the movie tells the story of Fall River, Mass., resident Borden, who finds herself on trial for the brutal murder with a hatchet-type weapon of her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and his second wife, Abby Durfee Gray Borden, at their family home. She was acquitted at a trial, which drew national attention, though no one else was ever charged with the crime, which has remained unsolved. Despite being found guilty in the court of public opinion in her native town, at least in some circles,...

The murder trial involving Jodi Arias isn’t over but that isn’t stopping Lifetime from developing a movie about the scandal.
Executive producers with previous credits that include Drew Peterson: Untouchable and The Craigslist Killer are working on the movie about the woman who claims she killed her boyfriend in self defense, reports TV Guide.
Arias is on trial for the shooting death of her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in 2008. The Arizona-based trial that has received massive coverage from cable news outlets.

Chances are, if the movie doesn't feature a dolphin with a prosthetic tail on the poster and it carries "inspired by true events" disclaimer, then it's going to be something about murder, mayhem or the decades-long search for the Zodiac killer. So by announcing that your movie is inspired by true events, what could have been an unsettling reveal instead becomes a waiting game: who is going to get killed, how long is it going to take, and why have you never read about it before? It may add a slight bit of tension, but it's at the cost of almost everything else. Such is the case with "Rubberneck," written, directed and starring Lena Dunham confederate Alex Karpovsky, which has an intriguing-enough true crime premise but ends up coming across like something you'd stumble upon on Lifetime one Sunday afternoon (but without all the laughs of, say, "Drew Peterson: Untouchable"). "Rubberneck" focuses on Paul Harris.

After reading harsh reviews of her performance in "Liz & Dick," Lindsay Lohan is defending her acting skills and the Lifetime movie that everyone is still talking about.
"We all loved the movie," Lindsay's mom, Dina Lohan, told The Huffington Post in describing her own and her daughter's thoughts.
She signed her email with a happy face above the words "onwards and upwards."
Lindsay, who was left "devastated" after reading some of the vicious reviews that ran before the movie, decided to spare herself the pain and ignore the live debate on Twitter that erupted as the film debuted Sunday night, according to her mother.

Lifetime's exhaustively promoted, critically trashed "Liz & Dick" became 2012's fourth most-watched original premiere on Sunday (November 25). Somehow, we suspect Lifetime had higher aspirations for what it called "the most talked about movie of the year." Twitter might have loved (to hate) Lifetime's Liz & Dick, but viewers weren't nearly as enamored. The Lindsay Lohan non-comeback vehicle averaged a disappointing 3.5 million viewers Sunday night, well below the ratings for some of the network's more recent telepic events. Last month, Lifetime's Steel Magnolias remake drew 6.5 million pairs of eyeballs, while the lower-profile Abducted: The Carlina White Story brought in 4.1 million viewers (on a Saturday night, when fewer viewers are home watching TV). And back in January, Rob Lowe's Drew Peterson: Untouchable attracted just under 6 million viewers.Liz & Dick also performed well below all three of the above movies among viewers under 50. Who’s afraid of Liz & Dick’s ratings?
Lifetime’s critically trashed Elizabeth Taylor biopic starring Lindsay Lohan delivered 3.5 million viewers Sunday night.
The network points out Liz & Dick ranks as its fourth highest-rated original TV movie of 2012 — which is sort of a weak brag, considering all the advance hype. Liz & Dick delivered fewer viewers than Lifetime movies such as Steel Magnolias, Drew Peterson: Untouchable and Abducted: The Carlina White Story.
The film chronicles Elizabeth Taylor’s romance with Richard Burton from 1961 to 1984 and received hostile reviews, with critics bashing the stunt casting of Lohan as the silver screen legend.

The intense coverage of Lindsay Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor in Lifetime's movie "Liz & Dick" didn't translate to huge ratings.
The movie, which aired Sunday (Nov. 25), still pulled in a solid 3.5 million viewers. But it was only the fourth most-watched movie Lifetime has aired this year, behind its "Steel Magnolias" remake (6.5 million), "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" (5.8 million) and "Abducted: The Carlina White Story" (3.5 million).
The demographic numbers for "Liz & Dick" were also in the Ok-not-great range: The movie drew 1.3 million adults 25-54 and 1.3 million adults 18-49, with women making up the great majority of viewers in both demos.
Critics were, to say the least, not very kind to the movie or to Lohan and co-star Grant Bowler, who played Richard Burton. The movie was a trending topic on Twitter pretty much all of Sunday night, but the social-media snark didn't lead to bigger tune-in.

Lindsay Lohan, you better bring it.
Lifetime's heavily hyped remake of "Steel Magnolias," starring Queen Latifah, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard and Jill Scott, drew 6.5 million viewers in its Sunday night premiere to become the third highest rated original telecast in Lifetime history. That sets the bar high for Lifetime's "Liz & Dick," starring Lohan as Elizabeth Taylor, which will premiere Nov. 25.
"Magnolias" fell just shy of matching the 6.6 million viewers who tuned in to Lifetime for 2006's "Life is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story." However, "Magnolias'" 3.2 million viewers in the 25-54 demo was Lifetime's best since 1995's "Almost Golden: The Jessica Savitch Story," which remains the network's most-watched movie overall at over 7 million viewers.
Other recent Lifetime successes include "Drew Peterson: Untouchable," starring Rob Lowe, which attracted 5.8 million viewers in January.
Are you surprised by how well "Steel Magnolias" did? We kinda liked it, but what did you think?...

Miley Cyrus may not have as many legal problems as other certain former child stars, but now she's expected to play one of the most famous outlaws of all time. The erstwhile Hannah Montana is negotiating to play Bonnie Parker in a "Bonnie & Clyde" miniseries for Lifetime and History Channel.
The four-hour miniseries would air on both cable networks (which are both under the same overall A&E Networks umbrella) in an effort to attract a broad audience of both men and women. Although the project is still in early stages, executive producers Craig Zadon and Neil Meron are TV movie vets with credits including "Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows," The Beach Boys: An American Family" and Lifetime's upcoming "Steel Magnolias."
Lifetime has proven they can still lure in big audiences for TV movies, 5.8 million viewers tuned in to see Rob Lowe in "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" in January.

Usually a fish-out-of-water set-up spells comedy, but that couldn’t be further from the truth for the new miniseries Coma, which airs tonight and tomorrow on A&E. Based on Robin Cook’s 1977 medical thriller of the same name (which was adapted into a 1978 film starring Geneviève Bujold and Michael Douglas), Coma sees med student Susan Wheeler (Lauren Ambrose) relocate from New York to the South. Despite the reputation that everyone’s friendlier down South, Wheeler notices an alarmingly high coma rate in her new hospital and begins to suspect her colleagues might be involved.

The Lifetime Movie Network has cast Rob Lowe to play the part of a Florida prosecutor in the new Lifetime original movie about the Casey Anthony case.
Lowe is no stranger to movies based on crime stories. The Golden Globe and Emmy Award nominee recently had a similar gig for Lifetime, portraying accused wife murderer Drew Peterson in the movie "Drew Peterson: Untouchable."
In his latest role, Lowe will play the part of Jeff Ashton, the Orlando prosecutor who failed in his attempts to get a first-degree murder conviction against Anthony in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
On July 5, 2011, a jury of seven women and five men acquitted Anthony. The little girl's remains were found in December 2008 near the family home, some six months after she was last seen.
After Anthony's acquittal, Ashton authored a book about the case titled Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony. The Lifetime movie is based on Ashton's book.

Testifying to the fickleness of women's television networks, Lifetime seems to have chosen Rob Lowe as its new favorite star: He'll follow up his recent creepy turn in Drew Peterson: Untouchable with the similarly sordid crime docudrama Prosecuting Casey Anthony, starring as the attorney who mounted a seemingly convincing case against the accused murderer, yet failed to prove that she was not a somewhat attractive white girl. The film is based on the book of the same name by Jeff Ashton, whom Lowe will be playing—and while it probably would have been nice to actually win the ...

If you saw Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar-winning performance in “Walk The Line,” and thought her story needed a dose of muddy visuals and histrionic melodrama, Lifetime has fixed your needs completely with their new original movie.

Rob Lowe To Star In Casey Anthony Movie
Hollywood actor Rob Lowe has signed up to star in a new movie detailing the trial of Casey Anthony, the Florida woman who was cleared of killing her young daughter in a headline-grabbing court case last year.
The West Wing star will play real-life prosecutor Jeff Ashton in an upcoming Lifetime TV film based on the attorney's best-selling book Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony, which was released shortly after Anthony was acquitted last July.
Anthony was accused of drugging her two-year-old daughter Caylee and suffocating her with duct tape in 2008, but her lawyers claimed the youngster accidentally drowned.
Anthony was found not guilty of charges including first degree murder in her explosive trial, which hit headlines across the world, and she walked free due to time already served after being sentenced to four years in prison for lying to police.
Lowe previously starred in another Lifetime crime drama this year, taking on the role of a real-life accused killer in Drew Peterson: Untouchable.
Lifetime boss Rob Sharenow says, "We're thrilled to have Rob returning to our network, after his amazing star turn as Drew Peterson. He's one of those rare stars who can do it all, comedy, drama, heroes and villains. There are very few actors in the history of our business who have been able to have such success on such a broad range."...
