Netflix’s The Night Agent is looking to boost its ranks.
Genesis Rodriguez (Lioness) is in talks to join the espionage drama for its third season. Netflix has already greenlit a third installment of one of its most popular shows, which stars Gabriel Basso as a low-level FBI agent who’s thrust into a far-reaching conspiracy.
Rodriguez is set to be a regular on season three, which is set to begin filming soon in Istanbul and continue in New York early next year. Details on her role are being kept quiet for now.
Netflix declined comment.
Season two of The Night Agent, meanwhile, is scheduled to premiere Jan. 23. It will find Peter Sutherland (Basso) getting a chance to work as a Night Agent after his actions in season one. But working in the secretive organization of Night Action propels him into a world where danger is everywhere and trust is in short supply.

At some point or another, most children view their parents as monsters — but for Princess Ellian (Rachel Zegler), a spell really did transform her royal parents (Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem) into monsters in the upcoming animated Netflix film “Spellbound” (streaming November 22). Watch the new trailer below.
The second animated feature from John Lasseter-led Skydance Animation (part of the impending Paramount-Skydance Media merger), the musical fantasy from director Vicky Jenson (“Shrek”) is a modern fairy tale that takes place in the mythical kingdom of Lumbria as Princess Ellian embarks on “an invigorating quest” to break the spell. Boasting bright, eye-catching animation from Skydance Animation Madrid, the look of Lumbria (production designed by Brett Nystul) was influenced by the iconic architecture of ancient Spain, known for its domed rooftops and Moorish arches.

In this exceedingly charming animation by Chris Sanders, there is not a single human character, yet it pulses with humanity from beginning to end. It sits alongside The Iron Giant, Wall•E and Big Hero 6 in the list of great, emotionally intelligent cartoons about robots that will probably make you cry.
Based on a book of the same name by Peter Brown, it follows Rozzum Unit 7134 (Lupita Nyong’o) — fortunately pretty quickly abbreviated to Roz. Roz is designed to fulfil human demands. But when she crash-lands on an uninhabited island without any humans to help, she overrides her programming to assist the animals around her, in particular a gosling, later named Brightbill (Kit Connor) — whose mother she crushed in an accident. She raises Brightbill with the help of Fink (Pedro Pascal), a fox who initially tries to eat Brightbill, then becomes a sort of unlikely nanny.

2025 is set to be a significant year for the Dcu, which is built on the foundations of the former Dceu. Although Creature Commandos will be the first release, both James Gunn and Peter Safran have emphasized that the upcoming Superman movie marks the true beginning of the Dcu.
While details about the plot remain scarce, set leaks and official announcements reveal an impressive cast. Notably, Gunn has “borrowed” several actors from rival Marvel projects.
As a result, we’ve compiled a summary of all the ‘Superman’ actors who have previously appeared in Marvel projects.
1. Frank Grillo – Rick Flag Sr (Dcu) / Crossbones (MCU)
Frank Grillo is best known for his role as the villain Crossbones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Endgame. The actor has openly admitted that he nearly got fired by Marvel multiple times for leaking information.

2025 will be a huge year for Dcu, a newly established cinematic universe on the remnants of the former Dceu. Despite ‘Creature Commandos’ releasing first, both Gunn and Safran stated in the past that the upcoming ‘Superman’ movie is the true start of the Dcu.
Not much is known about the movie plot-wise, but thanks to the set leaks and official announcements we know that the cast is pretty huge. What’s even better is that Gunn “borrowed” quite a few actors from the rival Marvel projects.
Due to this, we decided to summarize all ‘Superman’ actors that at one point appeared in Marvel projects.
1. Frank Grillo – Rick Flag Sr (Dcu) / Crossbones (MCU)
Frank Grillo portrayed a notable villain Crossbones in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier,’ ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ The actor famously stated that he almost got fired by Marvel a lot of times due to constantly leaking information.

Apart from some notable exceptions, most of MCU’s TV slate has been pretty lukewarm, even though it started on a pretty high note with WandaVision. Moreover, Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha was arguably the biggest highlight of the show, who was also one of the better twist villains to release under the Disney umbrella in years.

With the actress set to lead her own MCU project, Agatha All Along, fans are excited if it could bring something new to the table like WandaVision did post-Endgame, at least with its first half. Interestingly, Hahn wasn’t very educated on the subject of Agatha and Marvel in general, but the ambition of the story got her hooked.

Over the past year, the Marvel mythos has been infused with Disney magic in new What If...? one-shots that put Mickey Mouse and the gang into classic Marvel Comics storytelling.
It took Disney longer to start releasing comics like this than we expected; when Disney first acquired Marvel, we expected that to become the norm, though outside of Big Hero 6, Disney Animation and Pixar have, unfortunately, never been mashed up with the Marvel Universe.
Regardless, following Donald Duck's remarkable adventures as Wolverine and Thor, and Minnie's flight as Captain Marvel, the whole gang gets in on the action next January in Marvel & Disney: What If...? Mickey & Friends Became The Fantastic Four #1.

A gorgeous computer-generated cartoon with a human heart beating beneath its sleek, state-of-the-art surface, DreamWorks Animation’s “The Wild Robot” arrives at a time when the public seems more concerned than ever about being outsmarted by artificial intelligence. It’s somewhat ironic then that the movie, a lovely chosen-family fable adapted from the first book in Peter Brown’s open-ended series, features no human characters of consequence.
Instead, “The Wild Robot” concerns an overzealous automaton named Rozzum 7134 (or simply “Roz” for short), whose personality comes partly from Lupita Nyong’o and the rest from the artists at Dwa. Together with “How to Train Your Dragon” co-director Chris Sanders, they imbue this bot — basically, two spheres, four limbs and more tools than a Swiss Army knife — with maternal instincts and something that could pass for a soul.

There's nothing more human than grief, that searing loss which carves out your insides until there's nothing left but a void where your heart used to be. Yet there's something quite robotic about the numbness that hits first, and it's between these two extremes where a new Apple TV+ show explores what it actually means to be human.
This is a show that wants to be a lot of things all at once, multitasking like the robot that lends the series its name, and for the most part, it works very well. Across ten 30-minute episodes, creator Katie Robbins (The Affair) navigates big reveals, pithy put-downs, intriguing cold opens and yakuza antics with humour and pathos, all set in a semi-futuristic yet still recognisable Japan. It's a lot, granted, but a game cast ground this robot-filled world with much humanity, including Sunny herself...

One of the near casualties of Zaslav’s reign of cancellation at Warner Bros. was the new animated series from Batman: The Animated Series guru Bruce Timm. The show Batman: Caped Crusader brings back Timm’s famous style and is thrown back to the very early era of the Bat-Man comic book from the 1930s and 40s. Thankfully, Amazon stepped in to pick up the show for Prime Video and now, the trailer to the animated series has now been made available online.
The series is billed as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology” that will utilize “state-of-the-art animation techniques and technologies available, this powerful creative partnership will once again reinvent Batman and his iconic rogue’s gallery with sophisticated storytelling, nuanced characters and intense action sequences all set in a visually striking world.”

For millions of Japanese viewers as well as countless fans across the globe, the Ultraman franchise, pitting a giant superhero against giant kaiju creatures of all shapes and breeds, has been a popular staple since it was first launched as a TV series in the 1960s.
But for this critic and likely many other viewers, especially in the U.S., the new English-language feature-length version, Ultraman: Rising, will be their first encounter with a character who’s been taking flight for over a half a century in live-action, animated and manga formats.
The experience is not unlike discovering Star Wars for the first time by watching the 2015 J.J. Abrams movie, whose Jedis and Storm Troopers won’t ring much of a bell if you haven’t seen the earlier ones. Still, the the team behind this endearing if familiar Ultraman reboot does a good job at ushering us into a...

The director’s cuts of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon movies will be available to watch on the Netflix streaming service as of August 2nd – and just one month later, we’ll be getting more entertainment from the Snyder / Netflix collaboration, as it has been announced that the anime series Twilight of the Gods is scheduled to premiere on September 19th. The date announcement video can be seen in the embed above.
Said to be a “daring and spectacular animated vision of Norse mythology,” Twilight of the Gods has the following synopsis: In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds and great despair, Leif, a mortal King, is saved on the battlefield by Sigrid, an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love. On their wedding night, Sigrid and Leif survive a wrath of terror from Thor, which sets them – and a crew of crusaders – on an against all...

From The Iron Giant, to Wall-e, to Big Hero 6, there's just something about a good animated robot movie that never fails to get us right in the feels. And it's a trend that looks set to continue with writer-director Chris Sanders' upcoming DreamWorks animation The Wild Robot, which sees domesticated droid Roz (Lupita Nyong'o) crash-land on a remote island and learning to make friends with the local wildlife, including adorable, Kit Connor voiced gosling orphan Brightbill and wily fox Fink (Pedro Pascal). Check out the beautiful new trailer for the film below;
Having co-directed both Lilo & Stitch and How To Train Your Dragon, Sanders' uncanny knack for emotionally charged, anthropomorphic storytelling is on full display once again here. In this latest trailer, which really shows off DreamWorks' painterly approach to adapting Peter Brown's 2016 children's novel, the deeply expressive eyes of the otherwise near-featureless Roz and the playful physicality...

One of the most storied franchises in contemporary pop culture, Japan’s “Ultra Series” has generated 44 movies, nearly 100 video games, countless pages of manga, and an endless parade of TV shows since Tsuburaya Productions first created the character in 1966 as a kid-friendly way of capitalizing on the success of kaiju phenomena like “Godzilla.” With such an illustrious legacy to its name, it might come as a surprise that Shannon Tindle’s “Ultraman: Rising” — an animated feature set in Tokyo but created entirely in the West — doesn’t require its preteen audience to know any of that, nor does it bother to fill them in along the way.

Another day, another former Disney creative leaves the studio to join another. This time, it is Don Hall, perhaps best known for his directorial work on films such as Big Hero 6, Moana, and Raya and the Last Dragon.
When he joined the studio his first major project was 1999’s Tarzan. He would go on to work on films such as The Emperor’s New Groove, Brother Bear, and Chicken Little.
He eventually climbed the ladder and wrote the screenplay for 2007’s Meet the Robinsons. His directorial debut finally came with 2011’s Winnie the Pooh. He would make back-to-back hits with Big Hero 6 in 2014 and Moana in 2016. His later films, such as Raya and the Last Dragon and Strange World, however, left much to be desired.
In addition to writing and directing, Hall would also be part of the creative leadership team on films such as Zootipia, Ralph Breaks the Internet,...

Skydance Animation is getting into business with Oscar-winning filmmaker Don Hall.
Hall, known for such Disney movies as Big Hero 6 and the original Moana, has closed a deal with the company. The pact will see him create, develop and produce an original animated feature for Skydance, although project details are not currently available.
The filmmaker launched his career with Walt Disney Animation Studios, where he worked on such features as Tarzan (1999), The Emperor’s New Groove (2000) and Chicken Little (2005). Later, he was credited as head of story on Meet the Robinsons (2007) and The Princess and the Frog (2009) before directing the animated musical movie Winnie the Pooh (2011).
Hall directed the 2014 Disney film Big Hero 6, in addition to serving as executive producer for its Disney+ spinoff series Baymax! He earned an Oscar alongside fellow director Chris Williams and producer Roy Conli when the title prevailed for best animated feature at the 2015 Academy Awards ceremony.

The first trailer for Moana 2 has just dropped (via Toonado.com) ahead of the sequel's release in theaters this November.
This sneak peek doesn't give too much away about the story, though we see that Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) will be heading on a new adventure which reunites her with the demigod Maui (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson).
It was only in February when Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed plans for a Moana sequel. While the news generated excitement among Disney Animation fans, it felt like the movie came out of nowhere.
It was in 2020 when we first learned of plans for a Moana sequel TV series on Disney+. The idea was for it to serve as a loose follow-up in the same way as the streamer's Big Hero 6, Zootopia, and Up sequels. So, what changed?

Arriving on the heels of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” — a true milestone of superstar transparency where Jennifer Lopez expressed a clear-eyed view of her current career status — “Atlas” feels like an underwhelming return to the kind of projects that have maintained Lopez’ place in the Hollywood firmament, but not the ones that catapulted her there in the first place.
One of her few science fiction-themed films, its novelty alone should make it stand out, especially with Brad Peyton, a reliable purveyor of large-scale spectacle in the director’s chair. But a dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of “Atlas,” leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story.
Lopez plays the title character, a coffee-addicted, “rigid and hostile” data analyst whose mother Val (Lana Parilla) developed the first artificial-intelligence being, Harlan (Simu Liu), when Atlas was just a child.

Oh, no. I knew there was a lot of Rule 34 artwork regarding The Incredibles’ Elastigirl, but it seems like Disney is leaning into that crowd. It was unexpected, but I wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it. The Mouse hired a very flexible Cast Member and put that person’s talents on display in front of lots of guests!

A new rumor has surfaced that Disney is looking to make a live-action version of Big Hero 6 and that they are planning to set it in the MCU. While there have been no scoops or official confirmations, fans have taken to the internet to talk about what they think of the project. It is not known if Disney is looking to adapt the animated version that it made for itself or the original version from Marvel Comics, but it seems fans are largely open to the idea, if a little skeptical.

Disney is a huge conglomerate with stakes in every genre of films and shows. The House of Mouse has established itself in genres such as sci-fi with Star Wars, animation with Pixar and Disney Animation, and the superhero genre with Marvel. The company also acquired Fox Studios, thus owning the Avatar franchise as well.
While Disney has been the parent company of these studios, they largely operate on their own. Hence, when Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell was asked if his Kurt Russell starring superhero film Sky High would get a sequel, he mentioned that it would make more sense for Marvel to take over and develop the film as Disney wanted Marvel to be in charge of superheroes.

Studio Ghibli, like Western counterparts Disney, Pixar and the UK’s Aardman, is one of the most important animation studios in movie history. Since its first feature film, “Castle in the Sky” in 1986, Studio Ghibli has delivered two dozen thought-provoking tales beautifully rendered in a unique brand of animation. To date, its output has racked up have a lucky seven Oscar bids for Best Animated Feature.
“Spirited Away” was the first Studio Ghibli movie to break into the Academy Awards conversation and did so with aplomb in 2003. It won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature (Miyazaki the recipient) over “Ice Age,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron,” and “Treasure Planet.”
In 2006, Miyazaki was again nominated — this time for “Howl’s Moving Castle” alongside “Corpse Bride” and “Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit,” with the latter movie, an Aardman creation, reigning victorious.

So, here we are in mid-January, and though we’re staring down the barrel of a tough year ahead, it’s not all wintry doom and gloom on an international box office (and combined global) level.
While we’re not in blockbuster holdover territory, we should celebrate the wins when they come. To wit, there was a new milestone reached this weekend for Sony’s Anyone But You, which, with $100.2M, has become the highest-grossing R-rated romcom worldwide since Bridget Jones’s Baby in 2016.
Let’s also cheer that Paramount’s Mean Girls clicked with UK audiences in its launch and opened at No. 1 there. Also, Searchlight’s lauded Poor Things was tops in France, Freddie Mercury went supersonic in the IMAX edition of Queen Rock Montreal, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is nearing a milestone that might not have seemed possible from the outset.
See below for more on those titles,...

Not surprisingly, our five leading contenders for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars also dominate the Annie Awards nominations announced on January 11. The predicted Oscar winner, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” reaped a lucky seven nominations. However, it is another likely Oscar contender, “Nimona,” that topped the nominations chart with nine bids.
All three of these films contend for Best Studio Animated Feature as does six-time nominee “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.” We expect another six-time nominee, “Elemental” to reap an Oscar bid for Best Animated Feature even though it was snubbed in the top race by the Annies. That category is filled out here by “Suzume,” which earned seven nominations in all.
The Best Independent Feature nominees are: “Ernest & Celestine: A Trip to Gibberitia,” “Four Souls of Coyote,” “Robot Dreams,” “The Inventor” and “White Plastic Sky.”
These precursor prizes are presented by the Hollywood chapter of the International Animated Film Association.

With this year being the 100 year anniversary of The Walt Disney Company and the release of their latest animated title, Wish, we wanted to know what animated Disney film has been your favorite over the years? We stuck to films specifically released by Disney, so no Pixar titles are included. What struck me while compiling the list is the progression of their films. From the innocence of their early work to what many consider their heyday in the early 90’s to the emergence of the CGI era. For many of us, Disney films defined our youth, but which is the one that has remained with you all these years? As always, if you don’t see your favorite listed, please click “Other” and let us know what it is in the comments section as well as any fond memories you have of these timeless classics.
