Cult story- good examples of brainwashing.
I am a Christian so when I watch cult/occult movies I write on the information I believe and see what the film is professing.
This story was interesting to me in the way people get involved in cults. A man dressed like a high priest name Kalon has a cult group that meets in a large home owned by his very rich wife. Father Brown is among them for what reason I don't know. The cult name is Eye of Apollo. His wife sees he has a an attraction for women and has many affairs.
1. Kalon picks on a pretty girl named Susie that works for Father Brown and tells her to come forward like he sees something really spiritual in her. He uses his position to make HER feel important.
2. Susie is asked what her family calls her and she say Susanna. Kalon calls her Susanna and tells her to TRUST him. He wants her to open her eyes to the astral spirits.
3. Kalon has Susanna sit, he uses the power of suggestion and starts programing her.
A-"Sense the sun on your skin."
B-"Close your eyes" as he puts his fingers on both sides of her head
C-"Take a deep breath."
D-"Let it go" Feel the suns energy filling you up"
E-"There is a lonely place inside you Susanna and it has been there a long time".
F-Kalon guesses her father was in the war. He tells her the astral spirits of her mother and father are here now. He talks in general about her family and tells her how much they miss her.
G-Kalon is programming her, "can you feel them, their love, their joy" etc he wants her to feel what says to her to feel.
Susie comes out of this trance like state amazed and believing that this guy has supernatural powers.
In the process of the story the wife dies. Father Brown address Kalon about this and tell Kalon his religion is fake and angers him. When Father Brown tells Kalon leader of the cult "there are no astral spirits" he replies to Brown about believing in the "virgin birth". Brown replies like the guy is right and says "sorry" like he cannot prove it. Brown lacks faith to stand for what he believes but cannot explain and apologies for it.
Brown goes on to tell Kalon how he got involved in the cult. He used information he got that Kalon was injured years ago. To me Brown just uses excuses as to why people do things and then wants them to confess. People have a free will they are not forced to believe in God or things they want to believe or do things they do not want to do unless they allow someone to tamper with the free will.
Father Brown solves crimes, gets the people to confess like a amateur cop which is fine but, he plays the character as a priest and I don't see very much spiritual stuff coming from him. He does not teach or preach in the videos and talks very little using Jesus name, Salvation and or the Bible accept for constantly making the sign of the Cross on his chest.
The series is not bad. It is funny and interesting, it should have been named Mr Marple not Father Brown.
