My wife and I are huge fans of lower budget action films. When we saw the trailer for Kung Fu Games, we were all in!
As super fans, we appreciate the time and effort that goes into making these films. They are a labor of love and it shows in the performances and finished film.
Kung Fu Games doesn't break any new ground on the genre, but it doesn't need to. It takes these familiar beats and wraps them up in its own blanket, gives it a shake, and tosses out some pretty awesome moments. Trying not to provide spoilers here, but there are moments that take you back to other films and play homage to those in a sensible way.
Standout performance by Mark Strange, who is known for his work in Ip Man 4, Hounds of War, Deadpool and Wolverine, the very underrated Redcon-1, among others, and the upcomming movie, Dig Me No Grave.
The ladies in the film pull their weight as well, as Jade Xu, and Caitlin Dechelle also kick major butt in every scene they're in.
I'm not a bot, nor did I work on the production or receive any money to provide this review. I'm just an indie film maker myself and understand the hard work that goes into making these films and I enjoy them immensely. Give it shot, you may be surprised!
