BBC Studios’ Scripted Formats, Documentaries Head Abroad

BBC Studios Global Entertainment has licensed the drama “Doctor Foster” and comedy series “Ghosts” in Greece. The former, a BAFTA-winning psychological drama about a doctor whose outwardly perfect life implodes after she discovers her husband has been unfaithful, will star Marilita Lambropoulou in the lead role and Nikos Kouris as her husband. The original series was written and created by Mike Bartlett and produced by Drama Republic. It has already been successfully adapted in France, Japan, the Philippines, Slovakia, South Korea, Mena and Turkey. ANT1 TV and Silverline Media Productions will produce the Greek version.

“Ghosts,” originally produced by Monumental Television in association with Them There for BBC One, turns on a young couple that inherit a haunted mansion. Celebrated Greek screenwriter Theodore Petropoulos is penning the local adaptation, which Tanweer Productions will produce. It will air on Star Channel in autumn 2025.

Videoland, a streaming platform owned by Rtl Netherlands, will produce a Dutch adaptation of the popular dating show “I Kissed a Girl.” The format features single queer women searching for romance. The local version will be the first produced outside of the original UK series.

Laurens Woldberg, managing director of ITV Studios Netherlands which will produce the show, said the adaptation “offers great entertainment and an important platform for representation.” He explained it will showcase diverse relationships and help increase LGBTQ+ visibility on Dutch television.

The show follows women paired through compatibility testing. Their first interaction is a kiss to see if they feel a spark. This determines how their time on the show will unfold. Casting for the Dutch series is currently underway. It will film in 2025 and premiere exclusively on Videoland.

The success of the UK version streaming on Videoland suggests audiences in the Netherlands want more inclusive content.

While appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the singer was asked about the producer’s involvement in her upcoming sixth album. Perry received criticism over choosing to work with Gottwald given he had been in a legal battle for nine years with singer Kesha Sebert, known as Kesha, after she alleged she was drugged and sexually assaulted and wanted out of her recording agreement. Meanwhile, Gottwald maintained the accusation was false and sued for defamation and breach of contract. They reached an agreement last June, less than a month before the case was set for trial.

Blasphemy, I know. To many, “Firework” is one of the best self-empowerment anthems of all time, a perfect pick-me-up to combat sadness and anxiety. As someone who finds self-empowerment anthems almost inherently disingenuous, I never liked “Firework” much. However, I can recognize that it combines baroque strings and dance-pop synthesizers expertly.

After “Firework” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks, Perry wrote many other songs in this vein. Her other uplifting tracks — “Part of Me,” “Roar,” and “Woman’s World” — got worse and worse. Se should have written another “Teenage Dream” instead of several more “Firework” clones.

Katy Perry has dropped “Woman’s World,” the first single from her seventh studio album, the dance-oriented 143—the title of which, according to Perry, represents “a numerical expression of love.” The track is the singer’s first solo single since 2021’s “Electric,” from the Pokemon 25 soundtrack.

“Woman’s World” reunites Perry with Dr. Luke, a.k.a. Lukasz Gottwald, who helmed her career-making hits “I Kissed a Girl,” “Teenage Dream,” and “Roar.” Perry reportedly chose to cease working with the producer until after his legal dispute with fellow pop star Kesha, who accused him of sexual assault, was resolved. (The parties reached a settlement last year.)

Gottwald has maintained his innocence, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from questioning Perry’s decision to collaborate with him on a song about female empowerment.
