John Constantine has been a regular presence in the Arrowverse over the past couple of years, but his TV career hasn’t always been so smooth. Despite fans instantly taking to Matt Ryan as the Hellblazer, NBC cancelled Constantine after just one season back in 2014. Thankfully, he was later folded into The CW’s DC TV universe and Ryan has since been able to reprise his role on Legends of Tomorrow, Arrow and his own animated miniseries.
Seeing as he’s become such a popular character in that franchise, though, there’s a possibility that he might be given another crack at his own series. NBC won another Monday primetime pretty easily when things mostly shook out as they should. Much further down the Nielsen sheets, “Arrow” started Season 7 off just fine — for CW’s standards, that is.
The CW finished behind both Spanish-language networks, as an animated “Constantine” special dragged down what “Arrow” started.
NBC was first in ratings with a 1.8 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 9.1 million, according to preliminary numbers. A two-hour “The Voice” at 8 p.m scored a 1.9/8 and 9.8 million viewers. At 10, “Manifest” had a 1.5/6 and 7.5 million viewers.

Fox was second in ratings with a 1.2/5, but fourth in viewers with 5.5 million. “The Resident” at 8 received a 1.0/4 and 4.8 million viewers. At 9, “9-1-1” put up a 1.5/6 and 6.2 million viewers.
ABC was third in ratings with a 1.0/4 and second in viewers with 7.1 million.

The latest DC TV show to arrive on the airwaves is Syfy’s Krypton, an ambitious Superman prequel series which explores life on the titular planet 200 years before the Man of Steel’s birth. Though that sounds like it will be wholly separate from usual DC continuity, the series uses time travel to bring in familiar characters – most notably, the most comic-book faithful version yet of Brainiac.
So, seeing as it’s unafraid to tackle the wider DC universe, could Krypton crossover with The CW’s Arrowverse at some point? Beginning with Arrow in 2012, the shared multiverse has sucked in other network’s shows such as CBS’ Supergirl and NBC’s Constantine over the years, so it’s perfectly possible. That being said, fans shouldn’t expect it, as showrunner Cameron Welsh has nixed the idea that Krypton is part of the Arrowverse.
The news came out during the series’ panel at WonderCon in Anaheim.

Get a look at what Guillermo del Toro's Justice League Dark movie might have looked like.
The Justice League Dark movie has had a long and tortured road, and there's no end in sight. This is a project which would focus on the magical and monstrous corners of the Dceu, featuring characters like Swamp Thing, John Constantine, and others, and it has been in development at Warner Bros for something on the order of five years. For much of that time, Guillermo del Toro was in charge of development, with an eye on directing.
But as with many of Warner Bros' DC superhero movies, nothing has been easy when it comes to Justice League Dark. For one thing, it was once known as Dark Universe, but Universal came along and snatched that name up for their (now apparently dead) shared cinematic universe of action/horror flicks...

At the end of Legends of Tomorrow‘s midseason finale, Matt Ryan turned up on the Waverider, making his first appearance in the Arrowverse since his guest spot on Arrow in 2015. Obviously, fans are ecstatic to have the Hellblazer on board the time machine as we’ve been promised that the show will portray him more in line with the iconic comic book character, including giving him back his chain-smoking habit and exploring his bisexuality.
Thanks to Collider’s chat with the cast, we now have a better idea of how Constantine will gel with the Legends when the show returns with episode 10, “Daddy Darhkest.” In particular, Dominic Purcell – who plays Mick Rory Aka Heatwave – has revealed that Constantine will get flirty with one of the crew. Namely, Wentworth Miller’s Citizen Cold, Snart’s doppelganger from Earth-x who joined the team during the recent Arrowverse crossover.

As is the case with any TV series, you have your standout characters that steal the show whenever they appear on screen. Perhaps you’ll agree with me here, because, in my opinion, Captain Cold and Heat Wave have risen above the rest of the pack when it comes to Legends of Tomorrow. Played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, respectively, these two thieves-turned-heroes went from being relatively unknown to the mainstream to being household names thanks to some fine performances.
Unfortunately, Miller’s Leonard Snart met his end in season 1’s finale, but with this being a time traveling show, he returned in season 2 – albeit in a different capacity. You see, the Legion of Doom plucked him from earlier in the timeline, right before he signed up with Rip Hunter and the others. Thus, we met a more ruthless version of him, much to the chagrin of the ever-evolving Mick Rory.

According to THR, Ryan will appear in a two-episode story arc of the series in 2018 and it will take place after the big Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl crossover. Series showrunner Phil Klemmer offers some details on his appearance in the series, saying:
“As for the character of Constantine, we knew that an alienated, chain-smoking, bisexual, world-weary demonologist would feel right at home among our Legends.

DC Entertainment has released a clip from their upcoming new animated series Constantine, giving us our first look at the animated version of the character in action. The series actually looks a lot better than what I was expecting! The animation is pretty solid and it's great to see Matt Ryan bringing the demon hunting character to life again. I always like Matt Rayn in this role. He brought the perfect kind of attitude and charm to the character that you can't help but like.
In the clip, we see John Constantine bring a bunch of demons together in a church where they proceed to battle each other to a bloody pulp.

It may have been cancelled a couple of years ago, but Constantine, along with it’s star Matt Ryan, refuse to go down without a fight! The latest news, from this years New York Comic Con, is that Ryan to reprise his role in a guest appearance as John Constantine in the forthcoming season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, as well as voicing the character in a new animated series from CW Seed.

When Matt Ryan debuted on NBC’s live action Constantine series a few years back, most fans were in agreement that the producers had found the best live action Hellblazer possible. Unfortunately, the network didn’t think ratings were up to snuff and cancelled the show after only 13 episodes. On the plus side, Ryan has since continued playing the character in various other projects, those being Arrow, Justice League Dark and an animated web series slated for release via the CW Seed online streaming service (see the above trailer).
Naturally, one would think a show such as Legends of Tomorrow would provide a decent way for John Constantine to rejoin the Arrowverse due to its ability to pluck DC heroes and villains from wherever they may exist on the timestream. In fact, executive producer and showrunner Phil Klemmer expressed interest in doing so in an interview a couple months ago.

The CW Seed has released the first poster for their new DC animated series Constantine. The series is a continuation of the live-action series that was canceled and Matt Ryan will be back to reprise his role, which is awesome!
I actually really liked the live-action series. It's a shame it was canceled after 13 episodes. At least we will get some new stories in the form of animation. Here's the synopsis that was released for the series:
John Constantine ... a seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult. Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong.

Ironically for a writer who notoriously hates having his work adapted, the comics of Alan Moore just keep being brought to the screen. Sometimes they’re awful (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen), sometimes they’re middling (Constantine), but on occasion they’re just plain awesome, like 2006’s V For Vendetta.
11 years since the smart, politically-aware dystopian story was last put to film, news has arrived that suggests it could be making its way to the screen again, this time on TV. According to Bleeding Cool, their industry sources have informed them that British network Channel 4 are working on a new TV series based on Moore’s original comic.
That’s about all we know for now, but it seems that the television version would likely hue closer to the graphic novel than the film, which was largely faithful but made some significant changes here and there. For one, it...

One thing that has thus far allowed Legends of Tomorrow to excel is that of its utilization of DC characters who may not necessarily exist in the present day. Admittedly, this is something the producers need to do much more often (I spoke at length about this in my Blu-ray review of season 2), but it really boils down to which heroes and villains the folks at DC Comics will grant them access to. Well, that and actors’ availability.
A couple fine examples have been Jonah Hex and Connor Hawke, the former having met the Waverider crew when they ventured back to the Wild West on separate occasions. The latter, however, serves as the Green Arrow in the future glimpsed in “Star City 2046,” one of my personal favorite episodes.

Mike Mignola might not be the most well known name in comics, but he's up there. Early in his career, the writer/artist worked as an inker at Marvel on titles such as Daredevil, Power Man and Iron Fist, The Incredible Hulk, Alpha Flight, and even a Rocket Raccoon limited series. He also did some work at DC, including covers for classic Batman stories such as A Death In The Family, and co-creating Gotham by Gaslight. Even with his work at the Big Two, Mignola is best known for creating Hellboy and the many spinoffs including Abe Sapien, Lobster Johnson, and B.R.P.D., among others.
Mignola has been one of the driving forces behind the new Hellboy reboot starring David Harbour as the title character -- which has dropped the subtitle, Rise of the Blood Queen, according to IGN -- after being closely involved in the production of...

DC's greatest live-action television series has been canceled since 2015, yet the character at its center continues to live on. I am, of course, referring to Constantine, the NBC series that ran for only one season ending with a cliffhanger never-the-less. Constantine was great because certain episodes, including "A Feast of Friends", were incredibly true to specific storylines from the Hellblazer comic, with the show never shying away from the horror elements of John Constantine's world. The show's greatest strength, however, was the casting of Matt Ryan as Constantine, which remains among the most accurate casting for a superhero adaptation in any medium.
Ryan was so good that he's been brought back to conquer the role several times. First, Ryan donned the ratty jacket and tie again in the episode of Arrow titled Haunted, before voicing the character in DC's best animated feature, 2017's Justice League Dark. Ryan will also...

Dark Universe, or Justice League Dark, is the most exciting DC Extended Universe project for me. For those not familiar with the comic or animated feature, no, Justice League Dark is not an evil Justice League. Jld is a "team" of individuals who specialize in magic and the supernatural, including of John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. I use "team" loosely, as these would-be heroes get along worse than the Guardians of the Galaxy or Task Force X from Suicide Squad. And it's all because you can never trust John Constantine.

The concept of the DC Comics’ mystical characters gathering to combat occult evil always sounds good but of course, execution is everything. When it was done sparingly, as in Swamp Thing #50, it was quite effective. As an ongoing series, it proved tough to manage since each player was plucked from a title that had a fairly unique look and feel.
That said, the newly released animated Justice League Dark film is incredibly entertaining and certainly a cut above the last half-dozen releases. From a story by Jld writer J.M. DeMatteis and Ernie Altbacker, Altbacker’s script shifts the super-heroic DC Universe to supernatural threats that Superman (Jerry O’Connell), Wonder Woman (Rosario Dawson), Green Lantern (Roger Cross) and the others are less equipped to handle. Altbacker is no stranger to heroes and magicians with credits including Spooksville and Green Lantern: The Animated Series and he does a fine job weaving the various threads.

As much as I’ve loved the various Batman and Justice League animated films that have dropped in recent years, I must admit that a sort of repetition had set in. Thankfully, a breath of fresh air has come in the form of Justice League Dark, which shifts the focus to some DC heroes who are lesser known to the mainstream, namely those who deal in mysticism and the occult.
The lone exception to that is, of course, Batman (Jason O’Mara), whose inclusion sparked debate among fans since the movie’s initial announcement. If you’re wondering why anyone would complain about seeing more of the Dark Knight, the simple answer is that he wasn’t a part of this misfit group in the comics. But seeing as how he’s WB’s moneymaker and golden boy, it makes sense from a business standpoint. After all, the average Joe walking...
