ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis) has boarded Rob Schneider’s “Love is Love,” a new Paramount Plus Original film which marks the multihyphenate’s Spanish-language directorial debut.

Norm Macdonald, whose laconic delivery of sharp and incisive observations made him one of Saturday Night Live‘s most influential and beloved cast members, died today after a nine-year private battle with cancer. He was 61.

Macdonald’s death was announced to Deadline by his management firm Brillstein Entertainment. The comedian’s longtime producing partner and friend Lori Jo Hoekstra, who was with him when he died, said Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly a decade but was determined to keep his health struggles private, away from family, friends and fans.

“He was most proud of his comedy,” Hoekstra said. “He never wanted the diagnosis to affect the way the audience or any of his loved ones saw him. Norm was a pure comic. He once wrote that ‘a joke should catch someone by surprise, it should never pander.’ He certainly never pandered. Norm will be missed terribly.”

Actor Rob Schneider, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, has taken issue with the left-leaning politics of his former television home, saying its overt approach to satire makes things “less interesting.”

The comedian will bring her comic stylings to the streaming service in May with the stand-up comedy special “Old Baby.” As with her 2012 “The Special Special Special,” in which she performed in unconventional stand-up venues, “Old Baby” will once again place Bamford in quirky settings to see what that brings to her set.

Speaking as part of the Television Critics Association press tour, Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos offered a bunch of updates on the various original shows of the streaming giant. Here's the breakdown of the key news:

Arrested Development

Creator Mitch Hurwitz gave a status update on how a fifth season of the beloved comedy is progressing, saying: "If it does happen, it looks like the shooting will start at the beginning of 2017. It's the thing I'm really desperate to do. We've got a lot of the stories broke and we're ready to go."

Black Mirror

An October 21st premiere date has been announced for the new season of "Black Mirror," Charlie Brooker's British dystopian anthology series which will be scoring six new episodes. Bryce Dallas Howard, Alice Eve and Gugu Mbatha-Raw are amongst the stars of the new episodes, while filmmakers Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane") and Joe Wright ("Atonement") helmed individual episodes.

Ted Sarandos is not impressed with the ratings he’s seeing reported for Netflix.

In recent months, both Symphony Advanced Media and Nielsen have released data that purports to tally how many people are watching Netflix series. But Sarandos pointed out that the services claimed very different numbers for “Orange is the New Black.”

“Both Symphony and Nielsen claim accuracy,” Sarandos said, before pointing out that one service’s “Oitnb” viewership was two times the other’s. “Either number, if true, would be great for Netflix. Especially since it’s only U.S. viewing and it’s only for the first 35 days of release.”

Sarandos points out that ratings, and reporting on ratings, is an “important piece of the business puzzle for ad-supported networks, for sure. But subscriber growth, not advertising, drives our revenues. We’ll do great by attracting more members… The performance of any given title in the U.

Netflix isn’t quite ready to embrace the world of TV ratings yet. Ted Sarandos, content chief of the streaming giant, told reporters Wednesday that despite two companies recently introducing ratings of shows such as “Orange Is the New Black,” Netflix is less than impressed. “The focus of ratings companies has no relevance for us,” Sarandos said at the Television Critics’ Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills, California. And so God created semiautobiographical single-camera sitcoms about comedians and gave them much creative control. God gave a show to Marc Maron, and Aziz Ansari, and Tig Notaro. And God saw that they were good. Then God looked at His list of comedians, and saw that the next comedian on the list was Rob Schneider. And God said, "Let even Rob Schneider have his own semiautobiographical single-camera sitcom," and He called that sitcom Real Rob. Then God said, "Let this sitcom be full of cameos from Rob Schneider's actor friends, and weird jokes about claustrophobia." And God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

All art is subjective, but comedy might be the most subjective genre. It's easy to agree about the effectiveness of a dramatic performance, but senses of humor can range so far and wide that it's almost a minor miracle any time you find someone who agrees with you about something being funny. So when I say that the trailer for Rob Schneider's new Netflix series Real Rob is "aggressively unfunny," I say that with the full knowledge that there are going to be people out there who find it gut-bustingly hilarious and see it as the heralding of an impending comedic masterstroke. But we could not possibly be farther apart on the comedy spectrum, because I not only didn't laugh a single time when watching this, it made me disappointed that Netflix (a company I generally like and mostly respect) would decide to greenlight something that looks this genuinely terrible.

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Real Rob, its new comedy series starring Rob Schneider and his real-life family as they navigate the high roads and the low roads of Hollywood (hint: they often intersect). Comedian and actor Rob Schneider will return to the small screen with an original sitcom, Real Rob, set to premiere on Netflix on December 1.

According to THR, the series has been picked up for eight episodes and will blend Schneider's stand up with an "exaggerated yet brutally honest depiction of Schneider's real life."

Though possibly best known for his work on Saturday Night Live and in Adam Sandler films, Schneider has tried his hand at an original sitcom before. In 2012, CBS premiered ¡Rob!, a half-hour comedy that followed Schneider as a landscape architect with Ocd, only to cancel it after eight episodes.

Rob Schneider’s got a new show!

The SNL alum produced, directed and stars in comedy series Real Rob! with his real-life wife, Mexican television producer Patricia Azarcoya. The show is an "exaggerated, yet brutally honest" autobiographical look at the comedian’s life and career.

"Rob lives in two worlds, one where he’s the most important person on set, and the other, where he’s the third most important person in a three-person household, after his two-year-old daughter, Miranda, and his younger Mexican wife, Patricia," reads a release from Tricorn Films & Television, who has begun shopping the show internationally. "Patricia doesn’t quite grasp Rob’s level of fame, because when he was getting his first movie role, she was getting her first tricycle."
