It might come as a surprise that Netflix has never had its own English-language medical drama. Not that those shows are easier to make than any other genre, but there sure have been enough of them on television over the last several decades that Netflix might have made making one a priority. They didn't, but they are now.

Given a network-level budget, Pulse, starring Willa Fitzgerald and Colin Woodell, will debut on Thursday, April 3. There will be a first-time creator, Zoe Robyn, in charge with the help of veteran showrunner, Carlton Cuse. Cuse might be best known for his work on the iconic series Lost.

The plot line involves a hospital in Miami that is beginning to deal with the effects of a hurricane hitting the area. The issue is that there is drama among the doctors. Chief Resident Dr. Xander Phillips, played by Woodell, has been suspended, and third-year resident Dr.

Singer/songwriter Halsey had a role in director Ti West’s horror film MaXXXine (which wrapped up the trilogy that West started with the slasher X and continued with the prequel Pearl), and now Variety reports that West and Halsey are teaming up again for Bloodlust, a dark comedy series that’s set up at the Prime Video streaming service. Halsey will serve as the creator, writer, and executive producer on the show, while West is on board as director and executive producer.

Halsey previous wrote If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, an hour-long fantasy horror “film experience” that was set to the music of the album of the same name.

Details on the plot of Bloodlust have not been revealed. In addition to Halsey and West, the series is being executive produced by Anthony Li, who is Halsey’s manager, and Mark Friedman, who is also the showrunner.

Drew Starkey’s credits include roles in Love, Simon; Scream: The TV Series, The Devil All the Time, The Terminal List, and Queer, but he’s probably best known for playing the role of Rafe Cameron on the Netflix series Outer Banks – and now, Deadline is reporting that Starkey is the latest actor to join the cast of the action thriller Onslaught, which is coming our way from director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett.

Prolific actor Tony Todd, especially popular with horror fans for his roles in the genre, passed away on Nov. 6 at his Los Angeles Home. Per Deadline, Todd's death was confirmed by his reps, but the cause of death is not yet known. He was 69 years old.

Todd was born on Dec. 4, 1954. After studying theater at the Eugene O'Neil National Actors Theatre Institute, he began appearing in movies and TV shows by the mid-1980s. One of his very first roles was in Oliver Stone's acclaimed 1986 war film Platoon alongside Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp, and Willem Dafoe. The franchise was created by Kevin Williamson, who wrote “Scream,” “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.” The first four films were directed by legendary horror master Wes Craven.

Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin took over directing duties on the latest two films (Craven died in 2015) while Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt replaced Williamson as screenwriters. Now it has been revealed that he and his wife Kyra Sedgwick are such big fans of the genre that they’re planning to co-direct and star in a horror film – and they’ve cast their daughter Sosie Bacon, who starred in the horror hit Smile, as a co-star!

The Fall of the House of Usher is Mike Flanagan’s last series as part of his overall deal with Netflix, and it may just be one of his best yet. Adapting various works from Edgar Allan Poe, this show depicts the glorious rise and horrific fall of the Usher family. Author Michael Farris Smith has penned a nice handful of best-selling books, from The Hand of Strangers and The Fighter to Desperation Road. The latter, an emotionally rich action thriller, arrives in theaters and on demand this month with Smith as screenwriter. The film version is, overall, an effective southern noir thriller with a plot featuring a compelling thematic triangle: revenge, redemption, and justice.

Desperation Road stars Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series), and Oscar winner Mel Gibson (Braveheart). It takes place in a small Mississippi town where the locals know one another and protecting family is key, no matter how far you go to keep your loved ones safe. Or bring justice to them. Ultimately, this movie is about two lost souls — Fitzgerald plays distraught Maben, a single mother running for her life; and Hedlund is Russell, a man who just got out of jail and must start over.

Netflix has just premiered the trailer for Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher. Set sometime in “the near future” a Chinese-owned refinery in Iraq is under attack by unnamed rebel forces. A team of mercenaries under the command of Luo Feng is sent in to evacuate all 498 employees, including his estranged daughter Mei, down the Highway of Death to the safety of Baghdad Green Zone.

Elsewhere, Chris Van Horne an ex-Marine who remained in Iraq after the war needs money to repair the water system for the village he lives in.

Thrown action heroes Jackie Chan and John Cena together, and you are surely guaranteed action movie success. And that success has now been proven, with Chan and Cena’s Hidden Strike taking the number one spot on Netflix in just 24 hours. The streaming platform recently refreshed its Top 10 list, making way for new and trending titles, with Hidden Strike now sitting proudly in the top spot. After a troublesome development, Hidden Strike finally released on 29 July 2023 in the United States and internationally on Netflix, and clearly action movie fans were ready and waiting for Chan and Cena to unite.

Led by action movie and martial arts legend Jackie Chan as Luo Feng and Fast X and Peacemaker star John Cena as Chris Van Home, Hidden Strike follows the pair as two ex-special forces soldiers who must escort a group of civilians along Baghdad’s “Highway of Death” to the safety of the Green Zone.

One of the best horror films to come out this year so far has been Scream VI. The film continued the story from the mega-successful 2022 reboot.
