Amazon Prime Video has popped off with plenty of new content for March 2023 with original shows and some great catches for films to stream. “Top Gun: Maverick” will arrive March 24, and Jordan Peele’s “Nope” before that on March 21. For those anticipating “Creed III,” the first two films starring and directed by Michael B. Jordan will become available at the beginning of March along with all of the “Rocky” films as well as “Cinderella Man” for the broader boxing buff community. A theatrical release from 2022, “The Silent Twins,” starring Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrence arrives March 7.
Friday March 3 will see “Daisy Jones & The Six” rock the world when the band’s epic limited series comes out. Riley Keough, Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, and more will bring Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling novel to life. Other shows to look forward to on the streamer are Donald Glover’s horror series...

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.
Prime Video gets its streaming party started early by premiering the first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six on March 3. This series, based on a book of the same name, tells the fictional Behind the Music-esque story of an equally fictional band. Then, on March 17, Amazon’s partnership with Donald Glover bears its first fruit with the series about obsessive fandom called Swarm. Reggie Jackson documentary Reggie premieres...

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.
For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid. The eponymous Daisy (Riley Keough) and Billy Dunne’s band (Sam Claflin) make a mean match, starting with a hit single and leading to what seems like endless fame and glory. But where there is success there is peril, and both the band’s rise and an electric connection with Daisy threaten Billy’s marriage and everyone’s personal lives. James Ponsoldt,...

Melbourne, Sep 6 (Ians) Star England batter Liam Livingstone has said he wants to make a big impact for Melbourne Renegades in the upcoming season of the Big Bash League (Bbl) by playing an entertaining brand of cricket, adding that he would like to bring the team back into title contention after a couple of lacklustre years.
Livingstone, 29, has made a name for himself in T20 leagues around the world, giving sterling performances for Punjab Kings in Ipl 2022, where he scored 437 runs at a strike rate of 182.
In his two seasons in the Bbl (9 and 10), he smashed 55 sixes in 28 games — and will look to bring that ‘fearless’ approach to the Renegades.
Livingstone was recently ruled out of the remainder of The Hundred — where he plays for Birmingham Phoenix — with an ankle injury, but should be fit for Bbl-12 early next year.

Wes is having a day that is anything but glorious. He’s fallen asleep at the wheel, nearly driven off the road. He’s gotten drunk at a rest area and burned most of the things he took with him when he left his previous life, and for good measure, his pants as well. Now he’s hungover and pantsless in a filthy public restroom. That’s when God starts talking to him.
Well, Ghat starts talking to him, and he claims to be a God. But whoever heard of a God hanging out at a glory hole? Certainly not Wes who promptly makes for the door. But Ghat is indeed a deity and he’s not going to let Wes leave until he hears him out,...

Exclusive: Heather McGhee’s New York Times bestseller The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together is getting the audio series treatment.
Higher Ground, the production company set up by President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, has struck an option deal to turn the non-fiction book into a Spotify podcast series.
The deal is unusual as while it’s commonplace for books to be optioned for scripted series and movies as well as documentaries, it’s rare from book-to-podcast.
The book, which was published by One World / Penguin Random House, in February, offers an exploration of inequality and the lesson that generations of Americans have failed to learn: racism has a cost for everyone—not just for people of color.

Updated with CEO comments: Spotify saw revenue grow 16% last quarter to €2.147 billion ($2.59 billion) fueled by a 46% jump in ad sales as podcast listening hit a high and monthly active users grew 24% to 356 million, including both free and paid.
Premium subscribers increased 21%, as the company added nearly 4 million net new members to end the first three months of the year at 158 million — at the top end of forecasts.
Total MAUs however fell short of forecasts. It said “meaningful contributions” from markets like the U.S., Mexico, Russia, and India was partly offset by lower than expected growth in Latin America and Europe. And it cited pandemic-related subscriber “pull forward” — a term Netflix has also used to explain that hefty subscribers gains last year with the world in full lockdown mode aren’t necessarily sustainable quarter after quarter.

There’s never a bad time for a new superhero show, mind you. But with Amazon’s brilliantly bloody The Boys having been off air for five or so months now, the streaming world is particularly due for a new supe. With its list of new releases for March 2021, Amazon is going to be rectifying that.
The animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic series Invincible is set to arrive on Amazon Prime this March 26. Kirkman’s comic series is a colorful, thrilling, and violent take on superhero myths and the series that it inspired will feature a truly impressive cast. Take that all into account and this will be an important addition to the streaming superhero canon.
Also arriving in March is another big ticket item for Amazon. The long-awaited Coming to America sequel, Coming 2 America, will premiere on March 5. Eddie Murphy returns as Prince Akeem Joffer who...

Nichelle Nichols is about to retire from acting forever, but her final project will be a time-and-space-spanning adventure that will find her co-starring alongside a new actor, Loren Lott, playing her younger self. But, Lott is not playing a younger version of Nyota Uhura from Star Trek, but instead, a new sci-fi anti-hero called Ominara.
“What would Uhura’s character be like in the Mirror, Mirror universe?” Frank Zanca, producer of Renegades: Ominara tells Den of Geek. “Because Nichelle has Alzheimer’s and is retiring, we kind of wanted to do a send-off. Instead of Uhura, it’s Ominara, and she’s the captain of her own ship. She’s built herself into a pirate. And Nichelle is playing her older version, and she’s like the head of the underworld at that point in the future.”
Confused? Is Renegades: Ominara a Star Trek thing or what? The short answer is no.

London-basted genre outfit Shogun Films has commenced a creative partnership with prolific U.S. director/producer Daniel Zirilli.

(Warning: This interview contains major spoilers through the finale of “The Haunting of Bly Manor.”)
Hannah Grose is acting pretty strange for the better part of “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” and it’s not until the end of Episode 5, titled “The Altar of the Dead,” that the audience finds out the reason why is because she’s a ghost who doesn’t know she’s a ghost. And it takes two more episodes for Bly Manor’s strict-but-loving housekeeper (played by T’Nia Miller) to come to that revelation herself, when Miles (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth), who is possessed by Peter (Oliver Jackson-Cohen), forces her to look down at her body at the bottom of the estate’s well, weeks after he shoved her to her death.

China has struggled to get viewers back into cinemas this week, but the Shanghai Intl. Film Festival (Siff) has found a way to break through: screen all eight of the “Harry Potter” franchise films in a row, with limited seating due to Covid-19 distancing measures, and watch the public duke it out for the privilege to attend.
They must be doing something right in their selection, however: the festival sold 108,000 tickets in the first ten minutes of online sales. That contrasted with only slow box office in commercial cinemas which resumed operating on Monday.
Siff is set to run July 25 to Aug. 2 with an eclectic selection shown in a mix of screenings with a live audience, outdoor viewings and online streaming.
More than 400 films will screen in 29 designated cinemas, including Jordan Peele’s “Us,” a 4K restoration of “Apocalypse Now,” and “1917,” the only studio film new to Chinese audiences among the various offerings.

The first shot of the film is that of a delicate hand stretched against a grey backdrop. It is then joined by another, slightly larger hand, which feels and leaves it. The hand then lowers itself and lands on the shoulder of a man to reveal that we are watching a lovemaking session between a beautiful woman and a younger man. In contrast, the final shot of the film shows the same woman’s face at the end of a train car as the vehicle enters a tunnel, swallowing her image whole until there is nothing left to see but the dark. Between the hotel room and the train ride, we are made to witness adultery, blackmail, nude modeling, film shooting, and possibly even murder attempt.

Those in need of a shot of testosterone for Christmas just might make do with “American Renegades,” though it’s unlikely this knucklehead adventure will do much better Stateside than in the various territories it’s played over the last 18 months. Release-delayed from the start, the international co-production offers a particularly dumb kind of gung-ho Ugly Americanism that would have seemed odd for a primarily European enterprise when filming started in early 2015 — and seems even more so given political shifts since.
Having so far purportedly earned back just a tiny fraction of a budget said to be in the high eight figures, this tale of Navy SEALs seeking hidden Nazi gold during the Balkan Wars a quarter-century ago was a terrible idea on many levels. Still, it’s smoothed over to an extent by the sheer glossy expense of big if uninspired action-movie packaging. EuropaCorp is launching on 10 U.S.

“Do you have any idea the shit storm that you have created?!”
I’ve got a new trailer here for you to watch for an entertaining heist action thriller that revolves around a team of Navy SEALs. The film is called American Renegades, and it’s inspired by a true story that follows a team of Navy SEALs in 1995 as they attempt to solve a long-forgotten mystery while uncovering an immense treasure of Nazi gold at a bottom of a lake in war-torn Serbia.
The movie seems to be filled with lots of fun, over-the-top action that audiences will enjoy. If they’re into that kind of thing. I don’t know, I think the movie looks like it will be a blast! It doesn’t hurt to see J.K. Simmons being a hard-ass in it!

This was originally set for release in early 2017, and the first trailer debuted in 2016, but it's just now getting to theaters this fall - apparently. The film tells the sort-of true story of a team of Navy SEALs who try to find long-lost Nazi gold at the bottom in a lake during the Bosnian War in the 90s. The eclectic cast includes J.K. Simmons, as well as Sullivan Stapleton, Ewen Bremner, Sylvia Hoeks, Diarmaid Murtagh, Charlie Bewley, Clemens Schick and Dimitri Leonidas. They're totally overselling this now with all the big action, guns, tanks, and wise-crackin' American patriotism from these elite SEALs. Whatever works. Here's the new official trailer (+ new poster) for Steven Quale's American Renegades,...

The Republic of Malta – a small, Mediterranean island and major tourist destination – lures filmmakers with its yacht-strewn azure coastlines and historically significant structures such as medieval churches, baroque palaces and ancient fortifications. Producers will also find value in the country’s hefty cash rebate.
Specifically, the rebate ranges from 20% to 25% for qualified expenditures. A 2% bonus is available for productions that feature Malta and its culture, bringing the total incentive up to a total maximum of 27%.
To qualify, productions must spend a minimum of 100,000 euros, or about $118,000. They must also satisfy a cultural test.
Production resources abound on the small island, which is connected by air to many major European cities. Malta is particularly known for its production water tank – one of the world’s largest – which many films use for shooting water and underwater scenes. Plus, a long history of filmmaking has endowed Malta with a deep and experienced crew base.

Blade Runner 2049 actress Sylvia Hoeks has signed up to play Emmanuelle star Sylvia Kristel in an upcoming biopic from Michael R. Roskam.
The project is said to be inspired by Kristel’s life after she relocated to L.A. and her life spiralled out of control with a number of relationships and developing a cocaine addiction. The centres on Kristel’s iconic career in the ’70s and ’80s when the huge success of the “Emmanuelle” films stood in stark contrast to her troubled personal life, a press statement said:
“Sylvia Kristel was one of the women that opened up a sexual way of looking at sex for women,” said Hoeks. But she added: “She was also “very free-spirited, maybe even too early in that regard for her generation.”
Hoek’s stated on the troubled actress “her intelligence and creativity as an artist made her difficult to grasp.

Lack of EuropaCorp hit sees number dip below 100m.
The international box office for French films recovered some of its élan in 2017 after a difficult 2016, although the absence of a big hit from Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp meant admissions remained well below the 100m of recent years.
According to preliminary annual figures released by export body UniFrance on Friday evening (January 19) as part of its Rendez-vous with French Cinema in Paris programme, French films drew 80.5m spectators internationally in 2017 for a total box office of €468m ($572m).
The international box office also generated more admissions for French cinema than France, where local pictures sold 78.2m tickets in 2017. Unifrance said the 2017 international box office figure represented a 98% rise on 2016 figures, when French films drew 34m spectators worldwide.
Breaking the box office figure down, majority French productions accounted for 60.7m, or 76%, of these admissions. French-language productions generated 38m entries, accounting for 47% of the international box office.

Regardless of your feelings towards Luc Besson’s most recent cinematic output, nobody can deny that a production carrying his name can usually be relied upon to bring something new, if not always coherent, to the action genre. In the case of Renegades, a film co-written by Besson and directed by Steven Quale, you might be hard pressed to find anything positive to say about this lazily put together, badly acted, and above all, poorly judged production.
Following a group of Navy Seals as they make their way through war-torn Bosnia in the 90s, Renegades not only offers a historically inaccurate account of the events, it also manages to infuriate further by presenting a ludicrous storyline held together by a series of poorly executed action set pieces.
