Star Trek has a long history of memorable security chiefs. Chekov, Yar, Worf, Odo, Tuvok. Their names evoke acts of courage, integrity, and sacrifice.
With the arrival of Paramount+'s newest series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, we can add to that legacy LA'an Noonien-Singh, played to misanthropic -- at least on first impression -- perfection by the engaging and nuanced Christina Chong.
Speaking with TV Fanatic from her Toronto home while filming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2, Chong discusses her journey to the Trek-verse, how it differs from the other franchises she has been a part of, and what she's working on when she's not in Starfleet uniform.
Full disclosure: Chong didn't grow up a Trek fan. She remembers her older brother would watch it, but it wasn't something she followed.

Exclusive: Lionsgate won an auction and is paying north of $1 million and under $2 million for Black Collar, a heist thriller pitch to be written by William N. Collage and produced by Kenya Barris through his Khalabo Ink Society banner. Lionsgate took it off the table as bidders were circling. It is one of the biggest pitch deals of the year.
Specific plot under wraps, but this is a globe trotting suspense action heist adventure said to be reminiscent of hits like The Thomas Crown Affair and Inside Man, but with a fresh contemporary way in with timely themes. Collage scripted Emancipation, which became a $4 million spec script that sold to Apple for a film currently in production starring Will Smith and directed by Antoine Fuqua. Collage also scripted Exodus, Assassin’s Creed, the final installment of Divergent, and the ABC series Of Kings and Prophets among his credits. Collage is exec producing.

In May 2020, Paramount+ (still known as CBS All Access back then) announced the order for a series centered on the Captain Pike, Number One, and Spock characters introduced on Star Trek: Discovery Season 2, and the fan base went Wild.
Anson Mount brought the legendary Pike to life as the perfect precursor to the Kirk era while Rebecca Romijn epitomized the efficiency and effectiveness of the ultimate second-in-command, Number One.
Ethan Peck had the hardest role to take on as Spock, a figure long-beloved and revered from Leonard Nimoy's first portrayal of the Vulcan-Human defender of all things logical and fascinating. Peck's turn in the pointy ears was a resounding success.
With the three of them at the helm of the iconic Enterprise, anticipation for a return to episodic exploratory missions has been a slow-burning roar ever since.

Disney’s live-action take on its 1998 Oscar-nominated animated classic Mulan was intended, in all its colors and elaborate battles, to be seen on the big screen.
But because of the pandemic, and the unpredictable nature at which the box office marketplace is unfolding, Disney needs to win big on this $200M epic. Right now, with the entertainment conglomerate’s parks hampered by Covid-19 in parts of the world, what’s clicking for them right now is their streaming service, Disney+, particularly in the wake of their Independence Day launch of Hamilton. It’s what makes Wall Street go wild. Hence, opening Mulan offshore in territories that don’t have Disney+, and where ticket sales can be nothing but vibrant (i.e. China), and then hoping that families shell out an extra $30 to watch it on Disney+ on Sept. 4; it’s a business recipe that Covid-19 can’t curb.
