Censorship U.S.A. (1971)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
Alan Roberts, future filmmaker of some X-rated titles like THE SEXPERT and YOUNG LADY CHATTERLEY, directed this documentary, which goes around asking people what they think pornography is. If you know anything about the history of porn then you know that during the 1970s there was an out-pouring a popular porn titles that made it into the mainstream. However, there were countless legal battles and a lot of people ended up serving time in jail. This documentary was filmed before the big movie boom so a lot of the talk here deals with sex shops and simulated live acts. Overall there's really nothing here that demands people go out and watch the film but there are some interesting moments including the interviews getting people's opinions on the subject. There are also some interesting comments made from one made who appears to have been psychic about where the movies were going because he talks about people wanting them better made, with budgets and looking like real movies.
