According to the BBC, The Doctor has a brand new companion. 18-year-old actor Millie Gibson, best known for her turn on the soap opera "Coronation Street," will be appearing alongside Ncuti Gatwa when the latter makes his debut as the Fifteenth Doctor on "Doctor Who" in 2023. Like many companions past, this will be Gibson's biggest breakout role to date, but her other credits include the children's show "Jamie Johnson" and "Butterfly," a drama about a girl coming to terms with her gender identity.

Millie Gibson is joining the cast of the BBC’s “Doctor Who.”
She will play Ruby Sunday, the new companion of the Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.
Gibson is best known for starring in British soap opera “Coronation Street” in the series regular role of Kelly Neelan from 2019 to 2022. Her other screen credits include the ITV drama “Butterfly,” the BBC drama “Love, Lies and Records” and the Cbbc children’s series “Jamie Johnson.”
“Whilst still being in total disbelief, I am beyond honoured to be cast as the Doctor’s companion,” Gibson said. “It is a gift of a role, and a dream come true, and I will do everything to try and fill the boots the fellow companions have travelled in before me. And what better way to do that than being by the fabulous Ncuti Gatwa’s side, I just can’t wait to get started.”

Cannes — Taking place in the Grand Auditorium in Cannes, the crowd that arrived to cheerlead winners at Mipcom’s Cannes TV Diversify Awards, was compact but buoyant as winners took to the stage.
Some of the TV industry’s only awards to celebrate diversity and inclusion, a record 190 submissions were received this year from 27 countries.
Hosted by the international anchor and diversity advocate, Femi Oke, the Awards saw 10 winners announced on Wednesday night with many present to receive awards. Canada proved the biggest prize winners, accounting for three awards.
“All the winners today have been recognised not only by their peers, but by specialists and advocacy groups in the diversity and inclusion area, an extraordinary and meaningful accolade that also stands as an example of what’s possible in TV,” said Lucy Smith, director of Mipcom Cannes and MipJunior.

The series follows Jamie an eleven year old boy who dreams of becoming a famous footballer, a boy who lives and breathes football. The three episode series follows Jamie starting a new school, making new friends, dealing with school bully Dillon, searching for his absent father and trying out for the school’s football team, all with the support of his new friends Jack and Boggy.
12 year old Louis Dunn from Manchester, stars as Jamie, in his first ever TV acting role, who landed the role after attending the open audition.
He said "My form teacher from school, Miss Connor, told me there was an open audition for Jamie Johnson as she knew that I loved football. This is the first ever acting role I have gone for.
