The 76th Emmy Awards were dominated by a handful of cable and streaming series that each put out 10 episodes or fewer.
There was nothing unusual or unexpected about that, of course.
In fact, other than Hacks triumphing over The Bear in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, the night was pretty much devoid of surprises.
(Frank Ockenfels/FX)
The Dominance of FX Came as No Surprise
As we predicted, Shogun and The Bear dominated the evening, and most of the other series that took home hardware also stuck with the eight-to-10 episode format that the Academy favors these days.
Again, none of this came as any sort of shock.
In fact, you’d have to go all the way back to 2006 to find the last time that a broadcast show that aired 20-plus episodes took home the prize for Outstanding Drama.
The winner was 24, and it had a lot in common...

If you want to get a taste of the Mexican food and live entertainment megaplex that travel podcasters are already calling “the greatest restaurant in the world,” you’ll have to get in line and take a number. But don’t be surprised when that number is 600,001.
I’m no food historian and I don’t care to become one, but I’m willing to bet that, in the entire history of fine dining, no single restaurant has generated more hyperbolic hype, more media adoration and more Tribeca Film Festival documentaries before it even announced a grand opening than Lakewood, Colorado’s Casa Bonita. Long after the towering pink temple to dinner entertainment became a tourist attraction for South Park superfans when series creators and longtime patrons Trey Parker and Matt Stone made Casa Bonita the subject of a 2003 South Park episode, fittingly titled “Casa Bonita,” Parker and Stone purchased...

Disney's Tower of Terror has always felt like a thrilling outlier at any Disney park. Opened in Florida in 1994, the "Twilight Zone"-inspired thrill ride was always a little scarier than the rest of the Mouse House's family-friendly theme park attractions -- in a good way.
California's Tower of Terror may have had its last ride, but the attraction remains a landmark of Disney parks across the world, with additional versions in Tokyo and Paris. As with any Disney ride, a whole lot of thought went into the original planning of the attraction, and in the case of Tower of Terror, Imagineers were actually required to become classic TV binge-watchers. According to the official D23 website, everyone who helped design the Tower of Terror watched all 156 episodes of Rod Serling's seminal anthology series at least twice.

When Teezo Touchdown popped up on two songs on Drake’s For All the Dogs — “Amen” and the wild falsetto outro of “7969 Santa” — they were just the latest in a series of high-profile, attention-grabbing guest spots for the Texas-born singer/rapper. On April 16, Netflix expected to deliver the second live telecast in the streamer’s history — a reunion special for Love Is Blind. An epilogue of sorts to the blind dating competition’s fourth season, it seemed like a relatively low-stakes exercise for the platform’s latest technology. But when an internal bug kept the episode from airing until the next day, it became apparent that stakes were, in reality, quite high. Fans flocked to social media in disappointment and collectively lost their minds. “I lost my mind,” recalls Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen. “I was sitting in front of my TV like, ‘What is happening? Give me the updates. What’s going on?’ “
For those sleeping on Love Is Blind, the debacle proved its massive and still-ascendent popularity. It’s easily the most successful unscripted series in Netflix history, spending more days (131) in its U.S. top 10 over the...

Rapper Drake encouraged Nelly Furtado’s musical comeback. Nelly, 44, revealed that fellow Canadian Drake, 36, – who invited her to be a surprise guest for his All-Canadian North Stars event in Toronto last summer – reminded her about her legacy and value to the music industry and urged her to get back in the studio to work on new music.
She told Variety: “I have more gratitude nowadays, so I know how blessed I am to be a performer and creator. I’m really leaning into my profession. I met Drake a year ago and we had some deep conversations about life and art and he blew up my head reminding me what a valuable artist I am and told me to ‘boss up’ and make new music, and I listened. So, I couldn’t say no when he invited me on stage, I had to be brave and boss up and start the next chapter.

"Behind the world's toughest sport." Amazon's Prime Video has debuted their official trailer for a bullriding sports documentary series titled The Ride, about the new "team" bullriding competition and the evolution of the sport. This will be streaming on Pv in May, telling the story of many riders and people involved in this intense and dangerous sport. The Ride follows an ensemble cast of bull riders and coaches throughout the Pbr Team Series, as they navigate the league's inaugural 2022 season, budding rivalries, exhilarating highs, and the challenging lows of Pbr’s newest team-based competition. The Pbr (aka Professional Bull Riders) organization launched a brand new format last year, and this doc is made up of all the footage they shot on that first year. I'm sure many didn't even realize bull riding was still an ongoing professional sport, but it absolutely is. This is also covered in Chloe Zhao's excellent film called The Rider.

Bowing Feb. 15 on Netflix, “Eva Lasting” hit its Top 10 in 14 countries across much of Latin America, scoring a global Top 10 berth, and now prompting the platform to order a second season just days after its release.
A high-end Caracol TV production that puts on full display the benefits of streamer backing, the sleek 13-episode show, directed by Mateo Stivelberg and Maria Gamboa, taps into the comforts that Latin American telenovelas have accustomed their audiences to while finding solid and sometimes new narrative ground in its runtime.
Set at a 1976 Bogotá against the background of Colombia’s rampant modernization, the story follows Camilo (Emmanuel Restrepo) and his group of friends in a public boys school whose lives are irreparably changed when Eva (Francisca Estévez) becomes its first female student. Keenly aware of the tropes invoked down the decades by this kind of premise, the showplaces with them while giving color and depth to its characters.

It appears that The Challenge: Ride or Dies teams had to do more during Day 3 in the finals than push a car and eat a massive amount of food. According to Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio, the finalists also had to complete two “dumb” stations that didn’t make the episodes.
Two injuries have already occurred during ‘The Challenge 38’ final
The Challenge: Ride or Dies consists of the longest, timewise, final, clocking in at 100 hours. The remaining four teams began with an overnight stage that required them to cycle over 60 miles to open a lockbox containing their camping supplies.
Rookies Horacio Gutiérrezo and Olivia Kaiser finished first, giving them the most time to set up their site. For the following day, the competitors had to race to a series of checkpoints and complete them, and Aneesa Ferreira almost immediately rolled her ankle when the group began after teammate Jordan Wiseley attempted to...
