“When the world hands you lemons, make lemonade,” they say. But what happens when Hollywood hands you a full-on legal battle, an explosive cover story, and a tug-of-war over reputations? For Blake Lively, the answer is simple: You don’t just sit back and hope it blows over. You have to fight back!
Ryan Reynolds’ wife didn’t hold back a single punch when she called out The Hollywood Reporter for serving up a “sexist trope” in their cover story about her legal battle with Justin Baldoni. A new lawsuit filed by Lively claims her time on set wasn’t just filled with awkward silences and minor disagreements—no, it was steeped in “invasive, unwelcome, unprofessional, and sexually inappropriate behavior.”

And as if that wasn’t enough to stir the pot, the THR cover story seems to have only poured gasoline on the fire.

While filming ‘It Ends With Us,’ Blake Lively accused Justin Baldoni of harassment, body shaming, creating uncomfortable romantic scenes, and damaging her public image. After a period of silence following the film’s release, Lively filed a legal complaint, which escalated into a federal lawsuit.
Justin Baldoni responded by filing his own lawsuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, The Times, and others associated with the case. Baldoni’s lawsuit, filed in New York federal court, includes claims of extortion, defamation, breach of contract, and more, seeking $400 million in damages.
This is the story so far if you’ve missed it, which I hardly doubt. Baldoni released “evidence” that harassment never took place, while Lively’s legal team used the opportunity to claim that his evidence actually supports their claims, but you can read about this separate issue here.

Bollywood Mascot: Justin Baldoni, known for his role in Jane the Virgin and as the director of the emotional drama Five Feet Apart, is facing legal troubles tied to his acclaimed film. In a surprising turn of events, Baldoni’s own lawyer has filed a lawsuit, claiming that the actor-director appropriated a writer’s original script for the 2019 film, which starred Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson.
The Allegations
The lawsuit alleges that Baldoni used a script submitted by an aspiring writer without proper acknowledgment or compensation. According to the claims, the writer provided a detailed narrative that closely mirrors the storyline of Five Feet Apart, which follows two young patients navigating love and life while battling cystic fibrosis.
Baldoni, who also served as a producer for the movie, has been accused of adapting the script into the final version of the film without crediting its original author.

Justin Baldoni’s high-profile litigator Bryan Freedman has been on the warpath to defend his client in the evolving drama over It Ends With Us. Weeks after filing a $250 million libel suit against The New York Times for allegedly conspiring with the film’s star Blake Lively and her PR team to advance an “unverified and self-serving narrative” using “cherry-picked and altered communications stripped of necessary context,” the attorney’s firm on Jan. 21 highlighted a chunk of unedited footage featuring the actors in the hope of debunking claims of sexual harassment.
Yet Freedman, one of the entertainment industry’s most divisive attorneys (in a 2024 Hollywood Reporter profile he explained: “If you fuck with my client, you get what you get”), has gone after Baldoni, too. In a previously unreported 2021 case that’s since been settled, he represented a person with cystic fibrosis who’d appeared on the Baldoni-produced and -hosted docuseries My Last Days,...

Justin Baldoni got very candid about his time filming It Ends With Us and how one scene in particular led him to have a “near breakdown.”
The actor and director stopped by How to Fail With Elizabeth Day, where he and the host also talked about his experience with sexual trauma and receiving an Adhd diagnosis at the age of 40.
When speaking about the big-screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, the Jane the Virgin star recalled filming the scene when his character, Ryle Kincaid, finds Lily’s (Blake Lively) phone and sees Atlas’ (Brandon Sklenar) number.
“He’s very jealous, and he’s heartbroken, and he’s angry, and he doesn’t harm her, but you can see in his eyes how dangerous he is. After that scene, I had a near breakdown,” Baldoni recalled. “I had to leave and just cry and shake because there was so much pain.

Haley Lu Richardson got her start in the entertainment industry not as an actor, but as a dancer. Richardson grew up training in dance and decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the performing arts at just 16. Without formal acting training or experience, however, Richardson started off with roles as dancers and choreographers, something she already had experience with. She even appeared as a dancer in the Disney Channel dance-themed sitcom Shake It Up.
Though she had been acting for several years by that point, Richardsons big breakthrough in the acting world came from Five Feet Apart in 2019. Its not her best film, but its one of her best-known because of its appeal to young adult audiences and romance fans. While its notable, these are actually her best movie and TV projects in her career.

What is life without love? It’s a question that movies often explore, and sometimes, one comes along that truly moves us. I recently watched a Netflix film called Viva La Vida, and it left me in tears, just like those movies I used to watch back in school, like Five Feet Apart, Midnight Sun, and The Fault in Our Stars. Viva La Vida is about a young woman named Ling Min, who’s just about to turn twenty-five. But instead of planning a big celebration, Ling Min is facing something incredibly difficult—she has uremia, a condition that leads to kidney failure. Her life revolves around managing her health, tracking every bit of food and water, and making sure her potassium levels are just right. She knows that without a kidney transplant, she might not survive much longer. As she watches life slip by, seeing others suffer and lose hope,...

When Friends took over hearts and TV screens for 10 years of its run (and beyond!), it was just a natural course of time before any of us had a crush on one of the stars of the sitcom. But topping anyone and everyone’s list, Jennifer Aniston still wears the crown. Rachel Green was more than just a character— She was an icon, one who redefined fashion for years to come with her signature “Rachel” cut and immaculate sense of style.

So it comes as no surprise that even her co-stars had a crush on her. And while we’d think it was her 5 main castmates as the top contenders, there was one recurring star who couldn’t keep it together during their scenes. Surely, learning pranks from Rachel and repeating her lines was a tough ask for Ben Geller!

Even before Justin Baldoni finished reading Colleen Hoover’s book It Ends With Us, he knew it was an important story that needed to be adapted for the big screen.
Baldoni says he was instantly “moved by Lily’s bravery and what she had to overcome,” and that he wanted to team up with Hoover to develop the novel as a movie via his Wayfarer Studios shingle. And once he learned the wide-spread impact the story had among women, as well as the book becoming a TikTok sensation, it only confirmed Baldoni’s instincts.
“So often in our industry, we’re told we’re not curing cancer, we’re not saving lives, just making art, just making movies. To that I say, well, I wonder if we’re making the right movies then,” The director and star tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And that’s what we want to do differently at Wayfarer.

Spoiler Alert: For those who haven’t read the book, this piece spoils the plot of It Ends With Us.
Seven years after his Ted Talk about toxic masculinity, Jane the Virgin star and Five Feet Apart director Justin Baldoni combined directing and acting for the highly anticipated film adaptation of It Ends With Us, in which he stars as the abusive neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid.
Based on Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel, the story centers on Lily Bloom (Blake Lively) who first encounters Ryle in a close-up rooftop moment before meeting him again later after she opens her Boston flower shop. Ryle foregoes his no strings attached relationship style to pursue Lily and eventually marry her, though she starts to experience violence at his hands before and after the wedding.

Catapulted to the number one spot on nearly every literary chart worldwide, novelist Colleen Hoover has significantly benefited from social media’s renewed interest in popular literature. Already a highly successful self-published author, Hoover’s popularity skyrocketed during the pandemic when bored content creators began sharing book reviews on short-form video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. This viral trend resulted in millions of copies of her novels being sold.
Now one of Hoover’s most popular novels, the semi-autobiographical It Ends With Us has been adapted into a film by Five Feet Apart director, Justin Baldoni. The actor-turned-director also stars alongside Blake Lively, Brandon Sklenar, comedian Hasan Minhaj, Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, and comedienne Jenny Slate.

Justin Baldoni knows how to direct romance. His years of playing Rafael Solano on "Jane the Virgin" have equipped him with skills that give him an eye for intimacy, a full-bodied embrace of well-worn tropes guaranteed to make a Mother-Daughter movie night overflow with tears, and choosing actors who can make even the most nonsensical dialogue feel lived in. His previous films, "Five Feet Apart" and "Clouds," fall under the same teenage illness romance umbrella, but "It Ends With Us" is only arguably an adult story, as author Colleen Hoover seemingly wrote the book in the format of "YA romance, but this time they're adults!" Baldoni's biggest canvas yet gives the massive challenge of adapting one of the most popular books of the decade for a major studio, all while co-starring as the male lead and juggling the trickiest subject matter of his career.

The first feature adaptation of a novel by author Colleen Hoover, It Ends With Us, is hitting the screen this weekend in what is expected to be a major crowd pleaser for her legion of female fans. The movie, aptly in the hands of Jane the Virgin actor-turned-Five Feet Apart filmmaker Justin Baldoni, who also stars here, captures the emotional complexities of relationships mired in domestic abuse and why women decide to stay — or not.
Similar to how Baldoni was able to capture the fragile romanticism between a young couple stricken with chronic diseases in 2019’s $93 million-grossing Five Feet Apart, the director, together with screenwriter Christy Hall, is able to lift the particulars of passions that are damaged and toxic off the pages and onto a bigger canvas, while stepping into the headspace of many women who’ve experienced plights such as Lily Bloom’s, portrayed by Blake Lively...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus stars in Daina O Pusić’s complex, delightfully odd tale of grief. Here’s our Tuesday review.
Films about death tend to be about coming to terms with the fate that waits for us all. Films like The Fault In Our Stars, Five Feet Apart, Meet Joe Black and Me And Earl And The Dying Girl all find characters accepting death, either their own or a loved one’s, as part of life and are able to move on.
Daina O Pusić’s directorial debut Tuesday is different. The only word I can think to describe it is “weird”. Thoroughly, unapologetically weird. While the film’s trailer seemingly promises a traditional, life-affirming weepy, Pusić isn’t interested in offering a gentle look at death.
Instead, death takes the form of a bird, a macaw to be exact. It flies from person to person, granting them death whether they...

Justin Baldoni is on the mend.

Exciting rom-com movies coming in 2024 have a mix of love triangles, family dramas, and space-race set stories with great stars. A decade ago, director James Ward Byrkit brought us a surreal, Twilight Zone-ish sci-fi thriller called Coherence (watch it Here), which JoBlo’s own Eric Walkuski gave an 8/10 review you can read at This Link. Now Deadline has revealed that Byrkit and It’s What’s Inside producer Kate Andrews are teaming up to develop a follow-up of some sort to Coherence! As Deadline notes, “Plot details are being kept under lock and key — including whether the new film will be a prequel, sequel, or a different story entirely.”

Coherence starred Emily Foxler, who now goes by Emily Baldoni (Five Feet Apart), Maury Sterling (Smokin’ Aces), Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Seeking a Friend for the End of the World...

Cathy Schulman says getting into the movie business was a “bit of an accident.” It was a time before studying cinema was recognized as a fine art, so she was a playwrighting major at Yale. Then someone told her she would average about $1,500 for her plays. Concerned if she could support herself, she was advised to look into the movie business. “I said, ‘What’s that?’” Schulman, now the CEO and president of Welle Entertainment, recalls. “And the next thing you knew, I was in an interview, and I was hired to work on a set, and the rest is history.”
The movie was “Blue Steel,” and the-then 22-year-old Schulman was excited to see the film was being directed by a woman, Kathryn Bigelow. (She didn’t know it would be another 20 years before she worked with a female director.) From those humble beginnings, Schulman would go on to enormous...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Lisa Frankenstein!
Cole Sprouse shines in Lisa Frankenstein as the reanimated Creature, marking his first real horror film role. The connection between Newton and Sprouse's characters carries the movie, despite critics' mixed reviews. Sprouse unintentionally fulfilled a joke made 25 years earlier by his Big Daddy role, adding a fun twist to his career.
Cole Sprouse stars as "The Creature" in the 2024 horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, and the role was hilariously foreshadowed in an Adam Sandler movie from 1999. After starring in Riverdale's horror-leaning seven seasons as Jughead Jones, Lisa Frankenstein marks Sprouse's first real horror film. Before that, the actor, who notably worked with his twin brother Dylan on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, recently appeared in movies like Moonshot and Five Feet Apart. However, Cole would also be known for his role as Ben Geller in Friends and his memorable work in one of Sandler's best movies to date.
