Under Paris, a shark thriller from genre regular Xavier Gens, was released through the Netflix streaming service on June 5th (you can read our review Here) – and today, a judge will be deciding whether or not a parasitism lawsuit that has been filed against the filmmakers will be enough to get the movie removed from Netflix for a while. But in its nine days of release, Under Paris has already proven to be enough of a hit that Gens and producers might start having sequel talks soon.
When asked if there’s a sequel in the pipeline, Gens told Variety, “Right now, as of today, we’re not on it but there’s a chance that we’ll be discussing it soon. If there is a sequel, it will take place in a Paris that is entirely submerged under water.” To read the full interview, where Gens talks about the...

Under Paris, a shark thriller from genre regular Xavier Gens, is set to be released through the Netflix streaming service on June 5th – but producers Sébastien Auscher and Edouard Duprey have been hit with a parasitism lawsuit filed by filmmaker Vincent Dietschy, who claims that Under Paris resembles a project called Silure, which he began working on in 2011. According to Deadline, if a judge rules in favor of Dietschy at the initial hearing on June 14th, Netflix might have to remove Under Paris just days after its release, as Dietschy’s lawyer has requested that the release of the film be suspended while the parasitism lawsuit makes its way through the court system.
Dietschy says he registered Silure with France’s rights management body Sacd in 2012. Going by article 1240 of France’s Civil Code, parasitism is what it’s called when “one party follows in the footsteps of another party...

Rod Stewart has taken a swipe at fellow UK musician Ed Sheeran, dissing not only the pop star’s music, but also his hair color.
In a recent interview with The Times, Stewart was asked whether he thought timeless songs were still being made, like his own “Maggie May.” While Stewart was trying to remember the name of a “really talented” British artist, the interviewer brought up Sheeran, prompting Stewart to roast the international superstar.
“No, not Ed, I don’t know any of his songs, old ginger bollocks,” Stewart scoffed.
Considering Sheeran has landed seven straight No. 1 albums on the UK charts and released inescapable hits like “Shape of You” and “Thinking Out Loud,” we’re not quite sure how Stewart has escaped his music, but ignorance must be bliss.

“Dune” day has arrived in North America. For many film enthusiasts, it is the most-awaited movie of 2021; for the industry, even in a year of unknowns, it is one of its most uncertain events.
Denis Villeneuve’s take on Frank Herbert’s classic science-fiction novel vies with “No Time to Die” for most advance attention among October openings. A $50 million opening weekend would represent major success, but most estimates put it closer to $40 million or less. This month also saw “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” ($90 million), “No Time to Die” ($55 million), and “Halloween Kills” ($49 million) — three titles that represent 50 percent of the year’s top six opening weekends.
To convey not only what a strange time this is, but also theaters’ improving fortunes, consider this: Grosses to date for October represent about 80 percent of the total gross for the last two years.
As for “Dune,” predictions remain tricky.
Is “Blade Runner 2049” a Good Comparison?...

After a decade in the Marvel franchise, Natasha Romanoff is set to finally go solo with next year’s Black Widow. But while it could be interesting to see how the heroine fares without her fellow Avengers by her side, sources close to We Got This Covered have suggested that she won’t be the only McU regular to make an appearance in Cate Shortland’s film.
Apparently, Nat’s old friend and colleague Hawkeye has a small cameo in next year’s release. Specifically, we’re told that he’ll show up in a flashback to the mysterious Budapest mission – an oft-referenced chapter in Black Widow’s backstory that her solo debut looks set to finally explain.
Right now, the details of Clint Barton’s alleged role are still pretty vague, but given Hawkeye’s close connections to both Nat and the Budapest story, it seems like a fitting context for a cameo.

Scarlett Johansson’s finally getting her own solo vehicle in the McU with the upcoming Black Widow movie. The project was officially announced at Comic-Con last month, even though we all knew it was happening long before that – production beginning back in May probably didn’t help. If you haven’t seen Avengers: Endgame yet, I’m going to throw up a spoiler warning just to be safe before I begin.
While Avengers: Endgame brought a conclusion to Black Widow’s story arc as she heroically sacrificed herself so that the Avengers would be able to get their hands on the Soul Stone to reverse the effects of “The Snap.”
Regardless of her death, we are still getting a prequel movie for Black Widow that will explore her past, and in a recent interview, director Joe Russo talks about planting the seeds for that prequel film in Endgame.
As you know Black Widow has a story to tell regarding some kind of mission in Budapest. While it was brought up in the original Avengers film, it was also brought up again in Endgame. When Budapest was brought up in the interview, Russo teased:

By March 1, the Oscars will be over, and we can finally stop pulling our hair over the fact that Rami Malek’s dentures beat out Ethan Hawke’s bottle of drain cleaner. When that day comes, Netflix will be able to offer an eclectic mix of reliably quality fare to cleanse our palates of what will surely go down in history as one of the oddest Oscar seasons ever. The streaming giant could also very well have earned its first Best Picture statue by then, but its users won’t be able to hear the champagne bottles popping over the hum of their preferred watching device.

Unlike the song category, it’s impossible to predict the winner from this year’s quintet of original-score nominees. It’s almost anyone’s game.
Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson spent a month in Africa recording unusual drums, flutes and vocals, then adding them to a massive London orchestra and choir to create a unique soundscape for the fictional land of Wakanda in “Black Panther” — the first Marvel movie to land a score nomination.
Terence Blanchard, like Göransson, is a first-time nominee for “BlacKkKlansman” — amazingly, as he has been Spike Lee’s house composer since 1991, doing acclaimed work on films like “Malcolm X” and “Inside Man.” He’s also the first African-American composer to be nominated in this category since Herbie Hancock won 32 years ago for “Round Midnight.”
Nicholas Britell, previously nominated for 2016’s “Moonlight,” reunited with director Barry Jenkins for “If Beale Street Could Talk,” from James Baldwin’s story of racial injustice.

Sony Pictures Classics and a raft of distributors worldwide have picked up Laszlo Nemes’ “Sunset,” the widely anticipated follow-up to his Oscar-winning Holocaust drama, “Son of Saul.” The film is world premiering in competition at the Venice Film Festival on Monday and will go on to play at the Toronto Film Festival.
Negotiated by Playtime, the deal re-teams Nemes with Sony Pictures Classics, which acquired “Son of Saul” in 2015 at Cannes, where the movie won the Grand Jury Prize, and championed it through the awards season. “Son of Saul” ended up winning the foreign-language Oscar and a Golden Globe, as well as a BAFTA and other awards, and established Nemes as a major new voice.
