Some viewers believe that the character of Kobna may actually be a thinly disguised version of Idris Elba when he was a child. The most obvious character likeness to Idris Elba, is Kobna as a Music DJ, something which Idris Elba actually does in real-life in parallel to his acting career.
Ellen Thomas, who provides the voice of Walter's (Idris Elba) mother living in Sierra Leone, was actually born in that country.
On Monday, 24th September 2018 Sky Television announced that it had commissioned a second series of the sitcom created by Idris Elba. Filming for the second series is scheduled for 2019, for broadcast on Sky One in Autumn 2019.
On 20th December 2019, on the same day that Sky One showed the 2019 Christmas special, Idris Elba was given Sierra Leone citizenship. His father was born in Sierra Leone, just like the fictional father he plays in the series.
Ellen Thomas and Bill Bailey also appear together in Midsomer Murders (Drawing Dead, season 20).
