Jonathan Swift’s iconic story Gulliver’s Travels is being reinvented for television in a six-part series called The Gullivers, Variety reports. This fresh take is crafted by Emmy and BAFTA-winning writer Tom Bidwell, known for Watership Down. The project is a collaboration between Moonriver TV and Federation Studios, with producers Xavier Marchand, Casey Herbert, and Leo Becker leading the effort.

This upcoming fantasy adventure is being developed for a major European broadcaster. Moonriver recently produced Nautilus, inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.

That series is streaming in various countries and awaiting its US debut. Federation Studios has also brought Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days to screens, showcasing their expertise in adapting literary classics.

Emmy and BAFTA-winning writer Tom Bidwell (“Watership Down”) has created and written a new six-part TV series — entitled “The Gullivers” — and is working alongside producers Xavier Marchand and Casey Herbert for Moonriver TV and Leo Becker for Federation Studios.

The fantasy adventure series is in development with a major European broadcaster, according to the producers, and follows on the heels of Moonriver’s recent series “Nautilus,” inspired by Jules Verne’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea,” currently on Amazon Prime in the U.K., Stan in Australia and France 2 and awaiting rollout by AMC in the U.S. Federation is no stranger to Verne’s universe either, having previously adapted “Around the World in 80 Days” for Masterpiece PBS, BBC and the European Alliance.

The 82nd Golden Globes awards ceremony has just finished up, and while a number of comic book, sci-fi, fantasy and horror movies and TV shows were nominated in several major categories, only a few prevailed on the night.

Colin Farrell won Best actor in an anthology, limited series, or TV movie for his lead performance as Oz Cobb in The Penguin, but co-star Cristin Milioti lost out to Jodie Foster (True Detective: Night Country).

Kathryn Hahn was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy for Marvel Studios' Agatha All Along, but Jean Smart picked up the award for Hacks.

Deadpool and Wolverine was nominated in the recently-added Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category, along with the likes of Alien: Romulus Twisters and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, but Wicked skipped away with the gong.

Colin Farrell took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a limited or anthology series or a motion picture made for television for his role in The Penguin on Sunday night.

After being presented the award by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, Farrell first quipped that he had no one to thank. “No one to thank on this when I did it all by myself,” he joked. “Just a raw, pared-away performance.”

Farrell proceeded to express his appreciation for everyone who helped bring the series to life. “Too many people to thank. You all know it takes a village, whether it’s on the small screen or the big screen,” he says. “I’m here on the backs of the talents of so many people through the years. Maybe this one more than others because of Mike Marino, who designed the makeup, [and] his extraordinary makeup team.”

Netflix hit Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story has roared into awards season. The limited series received a total of three nominations for the 2025 Golden Globes, which were announced in Los Angeles on Monday as the fate of the real-life Menendez brothers remains in the hands of the city’s new top law enforcer.

Monsters is nominated for one of the year’s top TV awards — best limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television. And two of the show’s stars, both of whom saw consistent raves for their performances, received acting nominations: newcomer Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik Menendez in the series, nominated for best performance by a male actor in the limited series category and, for his chilling performance as patriarch José Menendez, veteran actor Javier Bardem was nominated for best male actor in a supporting role for a limited, anthology series or motion picture made for television.

This year, the show is set to air on Sunday (January 5) live on CBS while also streaming on Paramount+ in the USA as well.

Television nominees for the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards were announced on Thursday, and FX’s acclaimed drama Shōgun led the pack with six total nominations.

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) has announced all the nominees for the TV categories for the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards happening on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles.

In the lead overall is the Emmy-winning FX series “Shōgun” with six nominations including Best Drama Series, Best Actor in a Drama Series for producer/star Hiroyuki Sanada, Best Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai, and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series — a category it was left out of at the Emmys — for Moeka Hoshi.

Other series recognized with multiple nominations include “Abbott Elementary,” “Hacks,” “The Diplomat” and “What We Do in the Shadows,” which have all been recognized by the organization in previous years, as well as new series like “Disclaimer,” “The Penguin,” and “English Teacher.”

The Critics Choice Association has announced its TV nominees for the 2025 Critics Choice Awards.

Shogun leads with six nominations, including best drama series, followed by Abbott Elementary, Disclaimer, Hacks, The Diplomat, The Penguin and What We Do In the Shadows, which all each garnered four nominations.

The most nominations for a platform came with Netflix’s 23, with HBO/Max finishing closely behind with 21. FX (including FX on Hulu) had 20.

The Mubi production, Bring Them Down, starring Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott, is hitting theaters on Feb. 7, 2025.

Pic directed by Christopher Andrews, who is making his feature directing debut, follows Michael (Abbott) who is the last son of a farming family, and lives an isolated existence with his ailing, cantankerous father Ray. Burdened by a terrible secret from his past, Michael has isolated himself from the world and dedicates himself to his prized flock. When the ongoing conflict with rival farmer Gary and his wayward and unpredictable son Jack (Barry Keoghan) stirs old tensions and grievances, it triggers a chain of events that take increasingly violent and devastating turns, leaving both families permanently altered.

Exclusive: Pancho Mansfield is turning his producing deal with Blink49 Studios into an executive position.

Mansfield has been named President, Global Scripted Television at the company, which was founded by his former eOne boss John Morayniss.

Earlier this summer, Deadline revealed that he had struck a first-look deal with the company and was working on a problem-solving procedural with writer and producer Andrew Miller.

He will now oversee its worldwide scripted programming strategy including development and production of original content across global markets. He will report to Morayniss.

Mansfield was previously President, Global Scripted Television at eOne and oversaw its scripted slate, which includes Showtime’s Yellowjackets, Paramount+’s A Gentleman in Moscow, HBO’s Sharp Objects, ABC’s The Rookie and spinoff The Rookie: Feds, Freeform’s Cruel Summer, Fox’s Deputy, HBO’s Run and Netflix’s The Recruit.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Jeff Pope (“Philomena”) and Xavier Marchand of “Nautilus” producer Moonriver TV are teaming up on “Castle of the Eagles,” a six-episode limited series based on the true story of Allied POWs who staged a daring prison break from a fortified Italian castle during World War II.

The duo will be presenting the project to an industry audience in Rome during the Mia Market, which runs Oct. 14 – 18.

Written by Pope and based on the book of the same name by Mark Felton, “Castle of the Eagles” is produced by Marchand for Moonriver and Pope for his production label Etta Pictures, which is part of ITV Studios. “Harry Potter” star Jason Isaacs, who played Cary Grant in the four-part ITV biopic “Archie” written by Pope, is attached in a lead role.

Back in late September 2024, 20th Century Studios announced that it would be remaking the 1992 thriller classic The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with Longlegs actress Maika Monroe leading the cast. Now, we've just learned of a potential new cast addition. Scream queen Mary Elizabeth Winstead is reportedly in talks to join the remake, starring opposite Monroe.

Conversations are currently being had about Winstead joining the movie, but she has not officially signed on yet. Fingers crossed, an official agreement is reached because we would love to see her and fellow scream queen Maika Monroe act together, especially after knowing who they will be playing in the movie.

Deadline reports that Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in negotiations to star alongside Maika Monroe in the upcoming remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

The 20th Century Studios project is a new take on the 1992 thriller, which starred Rebecca De Mornay and Anna Bella Sciorra. When Claire Bartel (Sciorra) is assaulted by her doctor, she reports him to the police, but he kills himself to avoid being arrested. The doctor’s pregnant wife, Peyton (De Mornay), has a miscarriage and is driven mad with rage. Posing as a nanny for the Bartel family, she decides to tear Claire’s life apart by seducing her husband and murdering her. Maika Monroe will be playing the De Mornay role in the remake, while Winstead will be stepping into the Sciorra role.

McGregor, 53, will be celebrated at an event that will kick off on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 5:30 p.m. Pt, at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach. To begin with, he will sit down with yours truly for a career-retrospective conversation that will be recorded for subsequent posting as an episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast. The Star Wars prequel trilogy is full of terrific actors who have all played iconic characters in George Lucas galaxy far, far away. While the original trilogy focused on Luke Skywalker and how he became a Jedi, the prequels followed the origin story of his father, Anakin Skywalker, and how he became one of cinema's most iconic villains, Darth Vader. Alongside that, the movies also depicted how the Galactic Empire came to fruition and why several of the Jedi, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, had to go into hiding.

Over six years, several talented stars joined the franchise. Some cast members were already revered movie stars before appearing in the Star Wars prequels, like Dracula's Christopher Lee, while others were launched to stardom by the trilogy, such as Hayden Christensen. In some cases, it took more than one actor to breathe life into a classic Star Wars character, including Anakin Skywalker and Darth Maul.

Tom Burke, who played the sort of Mad Max-esque character Praetorian Jack in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Maurizio Lombardi, who was recently seen as Inspector Pietro Ravini in the Netflix series Ripley, have been added to the cast of the Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099 – which is, of course, a continuation of the franchise that began with the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and then got a long-awaited follow-up called Blade Runner 2049, which had Denis Villeneuve at the helm, in 2017. Deadline notes that Burke and Lombardi will both have recurring roles on the show, but details on their characters have not been revealed.

Apple TV+ has rounded out the main cast of its upcoming series adaptation of the Mick Herron novel “Down Cemetery Road.”

Adeel Akhtar, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Tom Goodman-Hill, Darren Boyd, Tom Riley, Adam Godley, Sinead Matthews, Ken Nwosu, Fehinti Balogun, and Aiysha Hart have all been cast in the series.

They will appear alongside previously announced leads Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson.

The official description for the series states, “When a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb and a girl disappears in the aftermath, neighbor Sarah Tucker (Wilson) becomes obsessed with finding her and enlists the help of private investigator Zoë Boehm (Thompson). Zoë and Sarah suddenly find themselves in a complex conspiracy that reveals that people long believed dead are still among the living, while the living are fast joining the dead.”

Akhtar will appear as Hamza. Stewart-Jarrett will play Downey. Goodman-Hill has been cast as Gerard, and Boyd has been cast as C.

Count Rostov finds family, love, and purpose in his confinement at the Metropol Hotel, despite his initial imprisonment. The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow remains ambiguous, leaving Alexander's fate open to interpretation. Love and sacrifice are the central themes of the show, as Alexander risks everything to ensure the safety and happiness of his found family.

The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow brings with it the conclusion of Alexander Rostov's story, with his 35-year stretch of imprisonment inside Moscow's Metropol Hotel coming to a halt. After returning home from Paris in 1918 to save his grandmother from the violence of Russia's Bolshevik revolution, Count Rostov is sentenced to life imprisonment for his status as a member of the nation's ruling class. However, instead of being locked in a prison cell, Ewan McGregor's character is confined to the walls of a luxury hotel in the nation's capital.

Paramount is on Tuesday, August 13 beginning layoffs of up to 15 percent of its global workforce, with many of those coming from the U.S. and eliminating other redundant roles.
