Jonathan Swift’s iconic story Gulliver’s Travels is being reinvented for television in a six-part series called The Gullivers, Variety reports. This fresh take is crafted by Emmy and BAFTA-winning writer Tom Bidwell, known for Watership Down. The project is a collaboration between Moonriver TV and Federation Studios, with producers Xavier Marchand, Casey Herbert, and Leo Becker leading the effort.
This upcoming fantasy adventure is being developed for a major European broadcaster. Moonriver recently produced Nautilus, inspired by Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
That series is streaming in various countries and awaiting its US debut. Federation Studios has also brought Verne’s Around the World in 80 Days to screens, showcasing their expertise in adapting literary classics.

Jonathan Swift’s classic satirical adventure ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ is getting a contemporary reimagining for the small screen.
Emmy and BAFTA-winning writer Tom Bidwell (“Watership Down”) has created and written a new six-part TV series — entitled “The Gullivers” — and is working alongside producers Xavier Marchand and Casey Herbert for Moonriver TV and Leo Becker for Federation Studios.
The fantasy adventure series is in development with a major European broadcaster, according to the producers, and follows on the heels of Moonriver’s recent series “Nautilus,” inspired by Jules Verne’s “Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea,” currently on Amazon Prime in the U.K., Stan in Australia and France 2 and awaiting rollout by AMC in the U.S. Federation is no stranger to Verne’s universe either, having previously adapted “Around the World in 80 Days” for Masterpiece PBS, BBC and the European Alliance.

With last night's Golden Globe win for Best Actor in an anthology, limited series, or TV movie for his lead performance as Oz Cobb in The Penguin, Colin Farrell joins the very small circle of just three actors who have been honoured at the awards ceremony for playing comic book villains - and their characters all happen to be Batman foes.
Farrell was asked about joining the late Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix, who both previously won Golden Globes for their respective portrayals of the Joker in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and Todd Phillips' Joker.
“You mentioned two actors who are, I think, for my money, two of the most extraordinarily talented and gifted and just brilliant artists in films that I’ve ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by," the Irish actor tells Variety. "What Heath did in Chris Nolan’s Dark Knight was extraordinary,...

Colin Farrell took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a limited or anthology series or a motion picture made for television for his role in The Penguin on Sunday night.
After being presented the award by Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, Farrell first quipped that he had no one to thank. “No one to thank on this when I did it all by myself,” he joked. “Just a raw, pared-away performance.”
Farrell proceeded to express his appreciation for everyone who helped bring the series to life. “Too many people to thank. You all know it takes a village, whether it’s on the small screen or the big screen,” he says. “I’m here on the backs of the talents of so many people through the years. Maybe this one more than others because of Mike Marino, who designed the makeup, [and] his extraordinary makeup team.”

Colin Farrell — who blew way fans this year with his transformation into a classic DC villain — won the Golden Globe for Best Acting in the limited series The Penguin.
“I guess it’s prosthetics from here on out,” said Farrell, who said he endured three hours a day in the makeup chair to transform himself into Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot.
Farrell, who beat Kevin Kline (Disclaimer), Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story), Ewan Mcgregor (A Gentleman In Moscow), Andrew Scott (Ripley) and Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer), had a special word for the latter actor during his acceptance speech Sunday at the Golden Globes.
“Richard man you broke my heart this year,” he said of Gadd’s work in the Netflix limited series that swept the Emmys last fall.

On a scale of one to 10, Cooper Koch is a “three million” after receiving a Golden Globes nomination on Monday morning for his leading role on “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.” “This is truly one of the best Mondays I have ever had,” he tells Gold Derby. “I heard from Ryan [Murphy] this morning — he sent me a congratulatory text. And I texted Javier [Bardem]. It’s so exciting!”
Koch is really looking forward to seeing Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the stars of “Wicked,” at the January ceremony, plus he wants “to hang out with Mikey Madison” from “Anora.” As for his suit, “I know who I’m wearing already. I have that locked and loaded.” But what about a potential speech? “I’ll have to start this week, I guess. Maybe I’ll just ask [Ryan] for some tips — he’s a great writer. Maybe I just should ask...

Ewan McGregor, the guest on this episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of an audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival, has been one of the world’s most admired screen actors for some 30 years.
The Scotsman, 53, shot to stardom in 1995’s Trainspotting, and has since done standout work in films such as 1998’s Velvet Goldmine, George Lucas’ second Star Wars trilogy (1999-2005), 2001’s Moulin Rouge!, 2003’s Big Fish, 2010’s The Ghost Writer, 2011’s Beginners and 2012’s The Impossible, and on TV limited series including Fargo (2017), Halston (2021) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022).
But rarely, if ever, has McGregor’s work generated the degree of enthusiasm — from critics and the general public alike — that he has garnered for his performance in the 2024 Paramount+ limited series A Gentleman in Moscow, a dramedy in which he plays Count Alexander “Sasha” Rostov, an aristocrat whose life is upended by the Russian Revolution,...

The Star Wars prequel trilogy is full of terrific actors who have all played iconic characters in George Lucas galaxy far, far away. While the original trilogy focused on Luke Skywalker and how he became a Jedi, the prequels followed the origin story of his father, Anakin Skywalker, and how he became one of cinema's most iconic villains, Darth Vader. Alongside that, the movies also depicted how the Galactic Empire came to fruition and why several of the Jedi, such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, had to go into hiding.
Over six years, several talented stars joined the franchise. Some cast members were already revered movie stars before appearing in the Star Wars prequels, like Dracula's Christopher Lee, while others were launched to stardom by the trilogy, such as Hayden Christensen. In some cases, it took more than one actor to breathe life into a classic Star Wars character, including Anakin Skywalker and Darth Maul.

Tom Burke, who played the sort of Mad Max-esque character Praetorian Jack in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Maurizio Lombardi, who was recently seen as Inspector Pietro Ravini in the Netflix series Ripley, have been added to the cast of the Prime Video limited series Blade Runner 2099 – which is, of course, a continuation of the franchise that began with the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner and then got a long-awaited follow-up called Blade Runner 2049, which had Denis Villeneuve at the helm, in 2017. Deadline notes that Burke and Lombardi will both have recurring roles on the show, but details on their characters have not been revealed.

Count Rostov finds family, love, and purpose in his confinement at the Metropol Hotel, despite his initial imprisonment. The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow remains ambiguous, leaving Alexander's fate open to interpretation. Love and sacrifice are the central themes of the show, as Alexander risks everything to ensure the safety and happiness of his found family.
The ending of A Gentleman in Moscow brings with it the conclusion of Alexander Rostov's story, with his 35-year stretch of imprisonment inside Moscow's Metropol Hotel coming to a halt. After returning home from Paris in 1918 to save his grandmother from the violence of Russia's Bolshevik revolution, Count Rostov is sentenced to life imprisonment for his status as a member of the nation's ruling class. However, instead of being locked in a prison cell, Ewan McGregor's character is confined to the walls of a luxury hotel in the nation's capital.

Paramount Television Studios, which has produced shows such as “Reacher” on Amazon Prime Video, Showtime’s “A Gentleman in Moscow,” HBO’s “Station Eleven,” the “Sonic” spinoff “Knuckles,” the series remake of “Fatal Attraction,” and more, is shutting down amid layoffs and cost cuts at Paramount Global, IndieWire has learned.
Paramount is on Tuesday, August 13 beginning layoffs of up to 15 percent of its global workforce, with many of those coming from the U.S. and eliminating other redundant roles. The current Office of the CEO wants to find $500 million in cost-savings, and this is part of an overall $2 billion that new owner Skydance wants to make in cuts once the transaction to merge the two companies closes.
Paramount Television Studios has also had a hand in making series such as “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” on Amazon Prime Video, “The Spiderwick Chronicles” on Roku, and most recently “Time Bandits” on...
