A girl is killed, and Zhao Yunlan is put on the case. He speculates that another student, Li Qien, is the real target, and is intrigued by a reserved Professor by the name of Shen Wei who knows more than he's willing to share.

A woman is murdered and found without her face, and when Zhao arrives on the scene he finds Shen Wei already there. The woman's friend, Lin Yusen, claims he saw the killer and is determined to avenge his loved one.
Huang Linqi, son to a very rich man, suddenly disappears one night. Soon followed by his betrothed Li Jiaqi. Zhao suspects butler Wu knows more than he's saying, and behind the scenes a plot to cover it all up is being orchestrated.
A woman disappears from a locked bathroom, and the case is handed to SID. Zhao consults Shen Wei at his office, as usual, and with their combined knowledge of dark energy and Dixing they soon figure it out. Everyone wish they hadn't.
The criminal who tried to rob Shen Wei the night before is found frozen to death. SID's technical expert Lin Jing connects the case to an online novel he's reading, and the SID races to find the author before more people are killed.
Zhao tries to get Shen Wei to join the SID as a consultant, and their relationship slowly develops into a true friendship. Meanwhile, a Dixing person named Dingdun tricks Wang Zheng into slowly unlocking her buried memories.
Whan Zheng is having vision of her life before SID. On the way northwest SID runs into Shen Wei and his students, and together they head up the mountain. They're told about the Hanga tribe, and Wang Zheng recovers her memories.
Wang Zheng found more than her memories as she entered the mountain, and Zhao teams up with someone unexpected to uncover the truth of the Hanga tribe. Together they get their hands on something very important to the Haixing planet.
SID leaves the mountain behind, carrying an important item with them, with a new member called Sanzan in tow. While Zhao contemplates the mystery that is Shen Wei, they get a new case involving sound-waves, mind control, and a mute child.
SID is repeatedly attacked by someone with strange abilities. Someone who wants to get their hands on the holy tools. Meanwhile, Zhao is confronting Shen Wei about the many coincidences involving the professor. Too many to count by now.
An important wedding is rudely interrupted by the scheming enemies of SID. Shen is caught in the middle of a case, again, and Zhao confronts him once and for all. But, before they have time to talk things happen and Zhao is put in danger.

The kidnapper is caught, but SID must deal with the consequences of their plan. Zhao takes the responsibility and the punishment, but before anyone can react the holy tools are at risk and Zhao comes face to face with the real mastermind.
They're all trying to find a cure for Zhao's ailment, but nothing seems to be wrong with him. Meanwhile, Zhao is having visions of the future, trying to solve everyone's problems, and the SID finds out about Shen Wei's true identity.
They finally find someone who can help Zhao with his ailment, but the cure turns into something else as a holy tool is discovered and they have to go to Dixing to find out more. Meanwhile, Da Qing tries to unlock memories of this Kun Lun.
While Zhao and co are down in Dixing researching the Merit brush, the SID team is busy investigating an intrusion at the HQ lab. Zhao also discovers a sad and terrible secret concerning his best friend Shen Wei.
Shen is hiding things from Zhao, like he always does, and it puts a strain on their relationship. Meanwhile, Zhao must deal with a strange, and possibly explosive, situation at the local hospital.
Most members of SID are affected by a strange kind of virus, making them behave more extreme and out of character, and while Zhao is forced to deal with that he's also trying to solve the latest case at the same time.
Lin Jing discovers a woman keeps dying again and again, making it a perfect case for SID, but Da Qing thinks he recognize her. This encounter helps Da Qing to unlock the last of his repressed memories and he finally finds himself.
A confrontation with the Merit brush owner only brings more questions than answers. But another break-in at the HQ lab finally lets them figure out what their superiors are up to and brings them closer to a traitor in their midst.
Lin Jing is pulled into a story between three old friends from Dixing, and Zhao must help him out of it. The Merit brush owner decides to make a bold move, giving the SID people a tricky mystery to solve, and Zhao is personally affected.
Fuelled by desperation, and with a lot of help from his friends, Zhao figures out the mystery and goes off to confront the Merit brush owner. The confrontation is more bitter than sweet, and Shen Wei finally gets a grasp of the situation.
Zhao finds the traitor in SID and keeps working to protect the people of Dragon city. Meanwhile, Ye Zun is working behind the scenes very efficiently. Down in Dixing, Shen Wei is betrayed and has to deal with the situation the best he can.
An agonizing waiting game begins, and tempers are flying left and right. Zhao tries to contact Shen Wei repeatedly, but no answer. While this is going on, an enemy is plotting to mess with their heads and Zhu Hong is the first victim.
Rumors about SID is damaging their reputation in the public eye, and SID tries to do damage control. The biggest target of both the rumors, and their enemy's game, is Chu. Zhao orders Guo to follow Chu, but it's a decision he'll regret.
To live with the consequences of his actions is something Chu learns the hard way, but Zhao refuses to give up and fights back. He enters Dixing, infiltrating their guards, and brings back a badly wounded Shen and Guo to SID.
While Shen and Guo are recovering, a powerful enemy takes the center stage. Zhao isn't easily tricked but is forced to move against him prematurely. This takes Zhao to a place of realization and understanding he never thought was possible.
This is the story of how it all began, and Zhao is fascinated to discover his role in it. The kinship he always felt towards Shen Wei was real and true, but everything is overshadowed by a declaration of war coming from Dixing.
