There is no dearth of historical documentaries on Netflix. The numbers are staggering, and it is interesting how the platform is bringing forward never-before-heard or seen stories of kings and queens from around the world. They also cover stories of other figures from the ancient world, which helps the audience receive a different perspective on the lives they led. It allows us to understand the politics of the world and the contribution of a respective figure in world history. It could be a cultural or political impact that survived all this time for historians to speak about and educate people about. History cannot be restricted to school textbooks anymore. It is interesting that this subject is being presented through Ott platforms in a way that is very different from classroom lessons.

Peter Chernin’s global multi-genre studio The North Road Company has acquired Turkish film and TV powerhouse Karga Seven Pictures in its first major move to expand its international market footprint.
Karga Seven originated as a factual content creator in the U.S. before moving into Turkish scripted films and series. Their most recent standout products are Netflix’s original hits “Midnight at the Pera Palace” and “Rise of Empires: Ottoman.” But they now produce many of Turkey’s top shows, including “Hekimoglu” — adapted from the U.S. series “House.”
Karga Seven’s founders — Emmy-nominated producers Sarah Wetherbee, Emre Sahin and Kelly McPherson — will remain in leadership roles, according to a statement. Wetherbee and Sahin will serve as global co-CEOs with McPherson as head of English-language content, alongside industry veteran and newly hired Ömer Müjdat Özgüner, who will now serve as Karga Seven’s Turkey CEO.

Rise of Empires: Ottoman is a documentary series written and directed by Emre Sahin.
A very interesting combination of techniques in this dramatized documentary series that brings to life the history in a very Game of Thrones fashion. If you haven’t seen it, give it a peek and see the interesting approach they have taken in creating a story so vivid that it captivates, and the producers’ angle of modernizing everything History-conveying – remember the dry history literature in school? This is the polar opposite, giving the subject some much welcome glamour and allure. We have seen new ways of relaying History lately, making it more appealing, a good example would be the doc-series ‘Blood, sex and Royalty‘. ‘Rise of Empires: Ottoman‘ delivers, with a similarly novel approach, a chronicle historical events.

French broadcaster TF1 will air entertainment show “Good Singers,” hosted by TV personality Anthony Lambert, from July 17.
The weekly prime time show is based on Istanbul-headquartered distributor Global Agency’s original format “Is That Really Your Voice?,” created by Izzet Pinto, in which a panel must select the talented singers from a group based purely on their appearance.
Pinto said: “The idea for the show came from watching the singer Susan Boyle, who rose to fame on a talent show. That inspired me to create this format. Her voice did not match her look and created big surprising moments for the audience. This feeling led me to create this idea.”
In the show, two teams of three celebrities each compete against one another. In each episode, 12 contestants will take the stage, each with a numbered label, and each pretending to be a good singer. The celebrities’ goal is to distinguish...

German broadcasting group ProSiebenSat.1 has decided to keep its transatlantic production subsidiary Red Arrow Studios after determining that a sale or partial sale of the group was no longer possible due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The media giant launched a strategic review of the production and distribution division in September with the aim of selling it or forming a partnership with other potential investors.
A final decision had been expected at the end of 2019 but the group said in December that it was postponing it until some time in the first quarter of 2020. ProSiebenSat.1 will now hold on to Red Arrow for the long term.
“We have now closed the process for the strategic review of Red Arrow Studios as various options we were evaluating are no longer viable in a coronavirus crisis environment,” a ProSiebenSat.1 spokesperson said. “We strongly believe in the business. It posted a record 2019. ‘Love is Blind...
