The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
Unexpected love arrives
Movies like these will make you fall in love again
It brilliantly sets the scenes for that love that just falls on you while you're busy with your life, all of a sudden your senses are re- engaged in a most compelling way and you have to choose...
Sure moralists will complain about the film but they forget that love is instinct but also in Francesca's case is also sacrifice and devotion
As a woman she can achieve these different types of love equally, they don't cancel each other out...
They stay with her till the end of her days.
Yes kids you can love someone with loyalty and sacrifice but you can also have a deep passion for someone else and keep them both.
I think this has been the story of many women but because morality has not left any space for women's expression many of these stories went untold until now ...
Excellent movie. Meryl and Clint have done it again.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Zero stars for zero craft
I've come to the conclusion that some actors and directors after a while they just give up. It's the case with Sandler and Aniston. No movie has insulted the spectators more, this is a cliché from start to finish.
They were shamelessly trying to copy the masterpiece that is Manhattan murder mystery and failed miserably.
Save your time and money please, the times when Zohar and Rachel made you laugh are long gone.
Escape Plan (2013)
In the 80s this would have made a fortune
I gave it a 10 ok ?!!
I love these 2 guys and the story was compelling
and original. Had this been made in the 80s this would have been everyone's favorite action movie. Today not too many folks prefer the genre for some reason but I most certainly dig an evening in with my favorite action guys.
Unbreakable (2000)
Ahead of its time !
This is my kind of movie.
Good story that builds up slowly
Good dialogue, excellent acting captures the miracles that could happen and somehow are not understood. I love the trilogy and I should say I'm particularly interested in super hero movies, but this series I saw twice already!
Keep up the good work Mr M Night !
Injustice with Nancy Grace (2019)
Raw, informative and well crafted
I may be bias here because I admire Nancy Grace
But this is a different type of crime documentary
The series looks at cases and follows the legal process with all the complicating turns that the law takes sometimes.
Several cases have completely taken me by surprise and did not expect to see so many of them out of mainstream media.
Clearly we live in an age where politically correct behavior matters more than the victims, but Nancy Grace does justice to the lost ones and makes us aware.
Keep up the good work Nancy Grace!
For My Man: Vanessa Coleman/Tamika Barbary (2015)
Not a true picture
Shot to look like a hallmark movie, the Vanessa portrayed in this is a benevolent young smiling and innocent girl who fell in love with a handsome man nicknamed Romeo......
Nothing can humanize the monster behind the horrendous hate crimes, not even a fictional story shot through pink glasses.
Deconstructing Harry (1997)
Excellent Allen
The editing is fragmented to recreate a visual stream of consciousness. The technique works and the juxtaposition of the fictional characters with the real ones makes the story really funny, the music is well chosen, the dialogue on point
It's a raw and dramatic film when it has to. Harry Bloks life passes before our eyes in a kaleidoscope of emotions, self loathing and self search. Loved it.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
If you like costumes THAT much !?
I had to watch the film with the idea that it was a spoof because the emotions were not there.
I watched the film in 2022 as I remember not liking it at all in 2001 and only saw bits of it. I can confirm my dislike of this film continues today.
The story is just .... Well ... it's not there
So I had to go and study it a bit
I wanted to understand why it had 2 Oscars
But then I realized indeed the Oscars were for the costumes and stage direction NOT best actor and NOT best screenplay
Indeed I believe the hype in 2001 must have been created by the novelty of mixing very popular songs to a LA Boheme type story and have everyone singing, so if you watch it better be drunk or better yet stoned out of your mind
I was personally sober at the viewing.... and I was not amused.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
It does not pass the test of time
The main character is a narcissistic emotionally abusive partner who puts his needs before anyone else's, even as a comedy this plot does not work.
I suppose is the type of comedy that was typical of the time, stereotypical roles for men and women, many way too many cliches.
Watching it today is hard to believe it was such big blockbuster.
Allen v. Farrow (2021)
Allen reveals his essential self.
You never knew Allen the man, forget interviews or films, there he portrays this hypochondriac insecure little man, the real Allen is a manipulator backed by the powerful enablers.
Him taping conversations with Mia, dragging her through courts and making veiled threats is sickening ( I had a nightmare the night after watching this)
I feel for Mia, the betrayal must have been so overwhelming, she gave Allen a home by introducing him to her family then one day find that he takes naked pictures of your teenage daughter and that he slept with her while denying the whole evidence.... And the worst of all find out that was just the beginning
To think the man has adopted other 2 girls after the whole scandal.
I didn't want to look into the scandal because some of my favorite movies are by Allen but they do have wonderful actors in them with Mia being in so many of them.
I always skipped the parts in movies where him as a much older person gets a teen or much younger person to be his girlfriend, those scenes I always found not genuine, creepy and unnecessary but now I see the scenes are fundamental to who Allen is. A quick aside to Allen " Woody take it from me, no young gorgeous girl in her teens would be interested in an aging adult, specially if the guy looks like you."
And no Soon-Yi is not a good example because she's an orphan and easily manipulated then and now.
I'm glad I watched the documentary and you should watch it too.
And Just Like That... (2021)
1 Star Is for trying
After watching the first 2 episodes, I understand why there are so many divergent reviews.
A lot of people want to like it and are nostalgic
So anything remotely related to the beloved series gets a big ok.
And then there are people like me, who feel that after the series ended, it should have been left alone, I reluctantly watched the movies and now this and had a cringe face The whole time .. ..
Why ? The new parts just don't fit
Dialogue is not flowing
Charlotte doesn't look like Charlotte, side note to Kristen, Charlotte would have never gone the Botox way, she had always been the Jackie O type very unlike she's portrayed in the new episodes.
The whole thing sounds and feels not relatable and just forced.
When they decided to add the woke nonsense It's like the creators wanted to trash everything they did in the original series.
Red Notice (2021)
Woulda coulda shoulda
This was a missed opportunity to make a classic heist movie.
Instead producers and director opted otherwise and so here we have 2h of one liners that everyone has heard in every movie and reduces this project to boring cinematic cliche.
None of the characters are believable ( must be because of the 1 liners)
So the whole thing is reminiscent of a SNL skit ....... a very very bland and long One.
Probably that's why the characters come out as caricatures, poor script and too much reminiscent of comedy sketch shows
Unless a comedy sketch show was the idea all along .... :)
I Am All Girls (2021)
Hard to watch but a must
When still today in 2021, continents like Africa
Asia, Americas and parts or Europe still treat women like meat and second class citizens, it's important to highlight this kind of movies and spread awareness about this harsh truth.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Better than Tarantino
This movie has actual dialogues as opposed to the 1 liners Tarantino movies deliver at every turn.
I'm saying this only because so many have compared it with QT movies, personally I do not think is even in the ball park.
This is a Great noir, old school style.
You want to watch it again the moment it ends.
I sure hope to see more from this director.
Matador (1986)
Its not a movie, it's an experience !
The story and it's characters are alive, it cannot be otherwise. The authenticity of each portrait is staggering.
You watch this not as a movie but as a documentary : that's how real and good everyone is in this movie. They all exist in some parallel universe.
I come back to it every 3-4 years and re watch and it never fails to impress me with its comedy, wit and soul and realism of the performance.
Almodovar will make you fall in love with people and their flaws and magic.
One of his early masterpieces and one of my favorite movies.
