Duo she (1997)
old time thriller
The casting was clever. Start the story with Wu, for she got the reputation and star power. Then used Wong and his couple to build up the comedy (and Dai Saw), But the story was not structured. Chunks and chunks of twists and turns were related but not to a satisfying degree. And because the film was a bit old, we got to see some tricks that are no longer in use. The car/bus chase was quite astonishing. Although the blood of the shooting scenes were too fake but still quite extreme. It seems to show the stunt work has changed its style over time. Hongkong style used to be more dramatic, and maybe under the western influence it evolves to the current status.
Tian sheng dan xiao (1994)
early work
The scriptwriter is FENG XIAOGANG, who actually this early on, knew how to make his characters lovable. Despite of less modernized, commercialized dialogue lines, it was not as stimulating as standardized commercial movies. It actually is more like the current soul-healing Taiwan style story, commonly set in rural small towns, where everyone is connected to each other, deeply caring each other, and has their own little quirks sustained despite of being grown-ups. The crimes he/LIANG TIAN solved were like, a teenager who stole video games and ate watermelons, made the beds and soaked the dishes during break-ins; a thieve gangster who stole an ex-cop's wallet who he was assigned to escort back from prison by his police boss.
The time sequence pinned by GUOZU was interesting, but the montage was too slow. The players had such good outfits, the Nikes and Onitsuka Tiger(i guess)!!!
