Sekawan Limo (2024)
Dry Jokes, Cheap-Looking Ghosts, and Overhyped
Don't understand why this movie has such a high rating-it feels overhyped. The story is shallow, the jokes mostly feel forced, and the ghost? Not scary at all! It looks more like someone in a cheap Halloween costume!!
This film falls under the horror-comedy genre, which is not new to Indonesian cinema. Previously, there have been successful movies in the same category, such as "Agak Laen" and "Ghost Writer". Unfortunately, this film, which primarily uses Javanese as its main language, struggles to match Agak Laen in terms of story, conflict, humor, or even its ghostly scares. Even though the idea of a ghost disguising as a human is interesting, the execution is weak.
While some jokes do land and bring a chuckle, the majority feel forced and fail to hit the mark. The most disappointing aspect is the portrayal of the ghost. Just like they wanted to make a costume party rather than a HORROR movie!
The narrative lacks depth, the ghost appearances are repetitive and dull, and the makeup and costumes feel cheap and lazy, as if the production was unprofessional.
What's puzzling is why this film received such high ratings. To me, it feels overhyped and doesn't live up to the praise. It's not even close to being as good as some other comedy films from Indonesia, let alone international hits like "3 Idiots" from India, which excel in storytelling, humor, and emotional depth.
Although the film had potential with its unique idea, it ultimately falls short due to underwhelming scares, bland jokes, and an overall lack of effort in its production. It's a disappointment for fans of the genre and a reminder of how important execution and script writing are in delivering an engaging horror-comedy.
Mr. Peullangkeuton (2024)
The First 5 episodes were BRILLIANT but the rest just MEEEH!
This comedy-drama centers around themes of love and family, sprinkled with adventure and humor, creating a refreshing twist on typical Korean dramas. The first five episodes delivered these elements brilliantly, drawing viewers into a unique storyline that felt both heartfelt and funny.
However, the final five episodes sadly took a different turn. Many scenes felt repetitive, lost in nonsensical plot points, and overly saturated with romance, diluting the original charm of the series. What started as a fresh comedy-adventure ended up leaning heavily on the familiar tropes of Korean romantic dramas, missing out on its own potential.
This show could have stood out as a meaningful, genre-consistent series, but instead, it closed with too many empty, romance-driven scenes that felt out of place and unimpactful. While it began with great promise, this drama ultimately succumbed to a disappointing, formulaic finish, proving once again how hard it is to find a Korean drama that maintains its strength from start to end.
Tuhan, Izinkan Aku Berdosa (2023)
THE WORST MOVIE ADAPTATION!!
Adapted from the viral novel in 2000s. The original novel, which I read back when it first became popular, was inspired by a true story and was quite eye-opening, as it revealed some dark truths about an Islamic organization. Its realistic portrayal was powerful because it aligned with common rumors about the private lives within such groups that I always heard back then.
Unfortunately, the film version falls far short of expectations. Hanung's ( The director ) approach to exploring the story turns what could have been a gritty, realistic narrative into an over-dramatic, unrealistic and theatrical piece. His direction fails to capture the raw essence of the original novel, instead making it feel like an exaggerated stage play rather than a serious film that aims to uncover hidden truths.
Once again, Hanung struggles to deliver a truly inspirational movie. The film is made unnecessarily darker, with characters reacting in ways that seem melodramatic and artificial, which strips the story of its authenticity. It's disappointing to see how such a compelling novel with great potential was turned into a disjointed mess. This is by far the weakest film I've seen from Hanung, especially given its origins from a well-regarded and impactful novel.
The Architecture of Love (2024)
ONLY for Melancholics to chill and waste their times
This film, adapted from a novel, is tailored for those who enjoy melodrama. If you're in the mood for a light and relaxing watch, this movie may suit your tastes. However, if you're looking for comedy, a complex plot, or an unexpected ending, this film might disappoint.
The story is straightforward and predictable, embodying many typical elements of Indonesian romantic novels. It features familiar themes such as wealthy families and young executives, set against aesthetically pleasing locations. The plot includes several implausible elements, like infidelity happened in their own home ( not in the hotel, which is extremely ridiculous! ) and a woman who prefers a man with PTSD over a seemingly normal suitor.
The film's simplicity allows for fast viewing or skipping scenes, as it lacks depth and complexity. While it may appeal to those who enjoy a predictable and emotional storyline, it does not offer the nuanced storytelling or unexpected twists that some viewers might seek.
The one standout aspect of the film is the good acting performances by the main actors.
Lahn Mah (2024)
If you have no interest in Thai or OTHER cultures, this film might not be for you.
If you're keen on learning about different cultures, this film offers a fascinating glimpse into Thai traditions and is definitely worth watching.
I'm neither Thai nor Chinese, but I like this movie. You don't have to relate to the story to find this movie interesting, but if you enjoy learning about other cultures, you will likely appreciate it.
It presents a striking contrast between Asian and Western values. In many Asian cultures, there's an expectation for children to inherit from their parents, even if the parents aren't wealthy. In contrast, Western children often strive for independence and aren't as concerned about inheriting their parents' assets if their parents aren't rich.
The film also highlights how Asian cultures tend to prioritize caring for elderly parents over placing them in nursing homes, which is a common practice in the West. The storyline revolves around a grandchild's desire to claim their grandmother's inheritance, and the resolution is compelling as the grandchild ultimately learns that money isn't everything.
Unlike many Thai films that feature beautiful, often Westernized actors or plastic surgery-enhanced faces, this film presents actors who are authentically Thai, with natural performances. The settings are refreshingly unpolished, depicting messy homes and crowded spaces that add to the film's realism rather than the often overly artistic settings of other Asian films.
The film is a drama with a somewhat slow plot, so watching it on Netflix in installments might be more enjoyable to avoid boredom. Overall, it's a poignant exploration of cultural values and family dynamics, offering a genuine portrayal of Thai life.
Amudo Eobsneun Supsokeseo (2024)
Once again, Korea has failed to deliver a truly thrilling series.
A Disappointing Attempt at Thrills!!
Despite its promising premise, this 8-episode series falls flat and leaves viewers questioning why they even bothered watching it.
The biggest issue with this series is its unnecessary length. The story could easily have been wrapped up in three episodes, but instead, the creators decided to stretch it out with unrelated subplots and silly scenes that add nothing to the main narrative. The attempt to weave together past and present storylines is poorly executed, with the past storyline having little to no connection to the present events, making it a confusing and frustrating watch.
Character development is another weak point. The police captain, who should have played a pivotal role, turns out to be a completely useless character. Despite her minimal involvement in solving the case, she somehow ends up taking all the credit, which feels both forced and undeserved.
The series is riddled with scenes and actions that simply do not make sense. For instance, people go missing and die without anyone reporting them missing-no family members, no police reports, nothing. Even when a police officer goes missing, his family doesn't bother to inform the police? It's baffling and unrealistic. In another absurdity, a search for a dead body is conducted without the help of dogs, which is standard procedure in such cases.
The behavior of the characters is equally frustrating. A daughter casually accepts a stranger as a guest, completely ignoring her father's objections. This stranger then stays in the house without any repercussions, and the owner doesn't even have the power to call the police to remove her. The situation is further aggravated when a police officer defends the stranger instead of upholding the law.
These are just a few examples of the numerous illogical decisions and actions that plague this series. The list could go on, but it all boils down to one simple conclusion: don't waste your time on this series. Despite the potential for a gripping story, the series is a disjointed mess that fails to deliver on any front.
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
The Story Differs from the Comic but Season 3 Ruined the Whole Thing**
I'll give it a rating of 7 because of the interesting first season (not including season 2 and especially not season 3) and the good special effects. Otherwise, I would give it a rating of 5 for the storyline.
Season 1 of this series is quite similar to the comic, with a few new characters and changes in character details, but it's still interesting. The series doesn't explain in depth how human desires turn people into monsters, but it's still worth watching.
Season 2 starts off well but quickly gets filled with unnecessary scenes and characters. These new characters don't add much to the story and take away from the interesting development of the existing ones.
However, Season 3 is where things go really wrong. Like many Korean sci-fi and mystery dramas, it fails to wrap up the story in a clear, logical way. The Main enemy monster died in unrealistic and silly ways. If it could be defeated so easily, why wasn't it done sooner? The idea of new Neo-humans is also confusing and not well explained.
The main theme of "Sweet Home" becomes unclear. The only somewhat developed relationship is between Cha and Eun Lee. Many characters from Season 1, whose relationships were built up nicely, are ignored or poorly developed in season 2 and 3, favor of new, less interesting characters with shallow backstories.
In summary, while the first season is promising, the next seasons, especially Season 3, fall short and end up ruining the series.
Pasutri Gaje (2024)
If you READ the comic, the movie is A BIG FAILURE!
I don't understand why some people gave this movie good ratings because it's really that BAD. Even majority film reviewers on youtube also said this movie was good. The FACT is, the cast doesn't match the comic characters, and the jokes are flat. They even changed the character almost completely. A movie based on a popular Indonesian webtoon should be able to deliver a live-action adaptation that closely mirrors the comic, similar to existing adaptations like "One Piece." The cast in those films closely resembles the comic characters.
In my opinion, the Indonesian webtoon movie "TERLALU TAMPAN," which has already been released in theaters, is much better than "Pasutri Gaje." The cast in "TERLALU TAMPAN" closely matches the comic characters, and the story is engaging despite not being covered in the comic. Conversely, "Pasutri Gaje" follows the comic's storyline but is ruined by an ill-fitting cast and characters that don't align with the original comic with cranky jokes. It's disappointing.
Civil War (2024)
A MORON photo journalist WANNABE
I was hoping to see the civil war conflicts and how war photo journalistic works! But what I saw just an action movie with a stupid girl in the plot.
This girl makes the movie not make any sense at all. Where on earth there are script writers who STILL created these SILLY characters and story! NONE of senior journalists would take this wannabe photo journalist in the team even protect her during the battle combats in REALITY. The girl and NO meaningful story only pure action and stupidity definitely will make you nuts watching this movie. In the beginning was okay but in the middle to the end is getting more and more stupidity and worse! Even No message about journalistic at all...!!
Kisah Tanah Jawa: Pocong Gundul (2023)
OVERRATED horror movie!!
It's said that this movie is based on a true story, but the exaggerations make it difficult to take seriously. The plot revolves around an old man who follows Mr. Hao to save a girl from a pocong (an Indonesian ghost). However, the pocong killed the old man, raising questions about the authenticity of the story. If this were true, why don't the police investigate Mr. Hao?
The story starts with promise, capturing the audience's interest. However, it quickly loses coherence midway. The jumpscares are excessive and rely on outdated horror tropes. For example, there's a scene where a car stops in the forest at night, the passengers find themselves alone, and the pocong suddenly appears, scaring them before the old man dies. This scene, like many others, feels cheesy and uninspired.
A good true horror story but they made the story such a rubbish.
The Covenant (2023)
They should do MORE and MORE RESEARCH..!!
The idea of this movie is interesting and based on true event but many things are NOT accurate. The interpreter spoke really good english with American accent, the Afghan wife was look like American wife, they wanted to create a story about Afghan family but they turned it into American family! They should go to Afghanistan and see how Afghans live there! Thus, all the team members were dead while these 2 men were alive running here and there so ridiculous. They wanted to make this movie intense but it's just a JOKE! Especially this Afghan interpreter acted like an expert soldier, just like Rambo! In fact many interpreters there were just ordinary people. Even many Taliban soldiers are actually untrained, they just know how to use guns and ready to die! Have no idea why this movie got so manu good reviews, the reviewers definitely don't update themselves on what happened in Afghanistan.
Madre Solo hay Dos (2021)
Season 1 was so good but S2 and S3 were disappointment!!
I do really loved this series when the first time I watched it, the idea was not that fresh anymore it's about switched at birth but how the story played out was so interesting with strong characters development. The acting of the characters and scripts were good and funny. I like the idea that the movie was about family and friendship. The ending of season 1 rose many questions and curiosity about what would happen next.
Season 2 brought new conflicts with very weak ending, not as funny as season 1, the ending was so absurd, not logic, and lost the identity of the movie. It continued to season 3, the story was not focus on the family again it all about the romantic relationship between Ana and Mariana that happened forcefully! Just like the script writers wanted to make them as a couple out of no where! And they broke the relationship between Mariana and another man with a rubbish reason just to make Ana and Mariana to be together! It was the most absurd ending that I have ever seen in a family series, it ruined a beautiful idea that the movie had in season 1 about family and friendship. The relationship between Ana and Mariana should remain as best friends and co parents for their 2 daughters because it's all the movie about since season 1 and they should have brought up more family issues rather than more focusing on romantic relationship between Ana and Mariana and how Ana questioned her sexual interest identity just like a teenager made me lost interest to watch the episode because the movie it should be about family not about sexual identity crisis! And because the writers spent to much episodes only for romantic story of Anna and Mariana so how they solve the problem at the end of the season was so terrible! They fasten the pace, shortened the problem solving, like everything good happened easily and smoothly in one last episode! It made the ending of season 3 was so cheap!
Glass Onion (2022)
You expected MORE but you got "Meh"
I am a fan of Knives Out first movie, it was witty, brilliant, and full of mystery. But the second movie was a garbage! The characters just acted silly, like it was in "Scary Movie" not "Knives Out" or other detective movies. In the beginning of the movie was okay, in the middle was okay but the climax and how they revealed everything was a completely a JOKE! Extremely ridiculous!
How on earth he had a red ketchup in his pocket?! How on earth she was supposed to be dead but she survived because of a notebook!!
If they didn't like her, how on earth that man even invited her to the party?!
If he was a stupid man, how on earth, she offered a partnership and he became a CEO?!
And the ending was just like a copy paste of READY OR NOT's iconic ending!
The second movie is just a SILLY comedy detective story!
Breaking Bad (2008)
Started as a Masterpiece and Ended as a Failure!!
After watching the entire series, I came to the conclusion that the series is actually not that good. It's overrated!
The first season deserved to get 10 out of 10, while the rest of the season is just okay, and the last season is the most ludicrous season ever and has an identity crisis.
Breaking Bad began with a strong scenario, a lot of smart humor, great acting, and interesting stories, but as the season progressed, there were a lot of flaws here and there, especially in terms of the character's development and appearance.
The writers need to learn more about human psychology to make the plot make sense rather than just make it as intense and brutal as possible. They should learn how the situation would play out in the family in real life, and make the characters develop naturally.
The story's timeframe in Breaking Bad was also established at around a year, despite the fact that it took nearly five years to shoot the entire season. Thus, we can clearly see the drastic aging of the characters. Especially on Walt's son, Flynn ( Walter Jr.) and Jesse Pinkman, which is ridiculous.
I know that many people want to make a series have a jaw-dropping ending, but it doesn't mean you can screw the story and characters up in order to end the series just like the writers of Breaking Bad did at the end of the season. Many scenes and plot in season 5 were not solid and logical. The plot of Breaking Bad used to build the ending has many irrational scenes, stories, and dialogue. At the end, the writers of Breaking Bad just wanted to make the main character into a badass hero, and the other characters blamed him for everything bad that happened and portrayed him as a supervillain, just like they had never known him in person, and it was only him who committed sins.
2037 (2022)
Good story but doesn't make sense!
The idea of the story was actually good enough but the script was so weak and it didn't make any sense. There are a lot of flaws here and there to watch this movie was very painful when we expect more but it just gave you full of meaningless drama!
Bleach: Burîchu (2018)
Poor acting Poor story
They didn't choose the actors correctly, many characters were played really bad by the actors and actress, they don't show the emotions, the script lines uttered really bad. They have good CGI and actions but other than that they executed it poorly!
Pokémon: Detective Pikachu (2019)
Interesting story but worse execution
They created a new story which is quite different from the original Anime but it has strong potential to develop and is interesting.
The thing that I don't like is the way they execute the story and characters. The main leads are completely different from the Anime but they dressed them up exactly like the Anime. The plot twist was good but the flow was very rough and it didn't go smoothly and most of the time it didn't make sense. It just like they want to tell many things and finish all things in 2 hours. The film also didn't give Pokemon characters chance to develop, they were just like a cameo in this film while there are many interesting Pokemon characters in the film but they did nothing.
Many of useless characters too like the Japanese detective, I even didn't know why this character was exist while had some useless scenes.
Terlalu Tampan (2019)
The film's story is better than the comic
Although I was quite disappointed with the cast, Mas Kulin and Mas Okis are not as handsome as the characters in the comic (especially Mas Okis). But overall I really like the twisted story. The film is full of moral values and suits for teenagers. We even couldn't predict the ending (the ending is actually not something that most viewers want to see) as its bitter sweet ending.
Pengabdi Setan (2017)
The original story is better than this!
It's a remake movie, no doubt that this film is scary but at some points the original version of this film has more potential.
The ending is awkward, and the death of Islamic pracher is ridiculous!
Danur 2: Maddah (2018)
Poor execution!!
As based on true story, the story has many potentials but unfortunately very poor execution it makes the film cheap!
Cars 3 (2017)
The Best story but not for kid!
This is the BEST story ever among all series, but yes this story is NOT for children. The children will not understand how the world works when the young replace the old and the old are supposed to give space and support the youth. This is the fact, how good the old but they cannot beat the youth in term of physical matter. Cars film tells about the athlete's life when the senior have to retire when they get old. It's normal but children cannot accept this easily of course. It will make them down! And Disney failed to bring this story more interesting for children. Even the new yellow car character is lack of charisma compared to McQueen.
However, I'm impressed when Disney tried to capture modernization era and they called it as "Future". The fact that Disney brought McQueen to his old age it makes the movie more realistic. When the viewer watch this movie since the beginning and they grew up so the story won't be a huge problem. But yeah, this is not good at all for children who watch Cars in a raw, we can say "Movie Marathon" as these children haven't grown up yet.
The Mummy (2017)
Good visual and effect, but poor story, and poor actress. Original Mummy still better!
Tom Cuirse looked awesome but played really bad for an A class star like him, the female character also was played terribly! The female Mummy was good but not as good enough to beat the male mummy in old Mummy film.
The jokes are cheap and the story is crap. I even don't see what makes the story potential besides watching Tom Cruise running here and there with the sexy Mummy and poor acting blonde girl.
The Mummy proves that the film sequels are more likely getting worse than the first one. This already happened to so many Hollywood movies like Pirates of the Caribbean.
Bol (2011)
Good movie that has failed ending! (poor execution in the end)
Since the opening till the climax, "Bol" nailed to play with the audience's emotion. The story is so complex, realistic and pathetic. All the prominent characters have very good acting and also looked so natural, except Mahira Khan. Mahira got a lot of scenes, but her acting wasn't natural. My salute for Manzai Sehbai, Zaib Rehman and Humaima Malik. I also impressed with the small roles that played nicely by Iman Ali and Amr Kashmiri.
I would have given this movie 10 rating if the director stopped the ending when it reached the climax, which is also the ending of the main female character's story. Unfortunately, the director decided to continue the story by putting the happy ending small scene, which I think completely out of the main story's line and broke the audience's emotion.
The ending will be good for Pakistani audiences who want a happy ending story, but definitely is not good enough for the movie lover who expects surprising and emotional ending!
The Physician (2013)
Don't watch this movie if you want to watch history movie about Ibn Sina
I have to say that the story, the actors, the special effect and the shooting set are great and I will give it 8 out of 10 only if the genre of the movie is a fiction drama movie with all fiction characters and setting.
I know it based on the novel, but if you want to make it as a movie then they need to do a lot of researches about the history because they expose the real figure, "Ibn Sina".
Having fictional character and using the real history as the setting of the story, and also to have the imaginary connection between the fiction characters with the real live characters are still okay as long as they don't twist the real history.
The death of Ibn Sina, the unknown Persian king with his problem with the barbarian seljuk and the strange Islam sect community (maybe be they want to say "It's a Shia Muslim dude") made this movie turned out to be ridiculous!
and the forbidden relation between the lead character with the pretty girl also made this movie to be "a Hollywood" movie which needs sex and love scandal.
The Ghazi Attack (2017)
Gave up in the middle of the movie
This is the only Indian movie that I never watch it until the movie end. I gave up and stopped watching it in the middle. The too fair skin Bengali Girl, Boring plot, and anticlimax in the middle of the movie made me back off to watch this movie to end.
The movie only could increase the adrenaline in the beginning and failed to make it in the middle. The rating that I saw on IMDb made me decide to watch but that's below my expectation. 8 rating is too high, for this movie.
