El porno! (1995)
Documentary, Fails to document anything
This is supposed to be a documentary on porn in Mexico since the Mexican revolution in 1910 to 1920. It moreso discusses morality in Mexico, the influence of the Catholic Church and adult entertainment in Mexico city.
The problem with this documentary is it never really explains any of the topics it covers. It shows a few of what it calls early porn movies in black & white but nearly all would barely get an R rating in the current US movie rating system. Its own commentary fails to explain itself. When it gets into morality it only mentions the hypocritical conduct of people. Nothing further.
It is only about 24 minutes but seemed longer. Just never provides any useful information. I don't feel any more informed in the subject matter than before watching.
Call Me Alma (2023)
Good drama with usual Vivamax sex scenes
Alma is a prostitute in Manilla in 1999 towards the new millennium. She has several regular clients. One evening she is approached by a woman that claims to be her mother but she initially pushes her aside. Later seeing her again though with symptoms of dementia. Together they search for her long lost father.
This has the standard Vivamax production nudity and sex scenes. Yet it also has an interesting and deep drama story to go with it. It does get sad at times.
The acting is very good. Jaclyn Jose who plays Sheila/Mother gives an amazing performance.
This is a very good drama although it could have used some light humor to lift the often saddened mood. Still worth watching.
Bakku ga daisuki! (1981)
Classic Pink Eiga comedy
The story is around three young women. One has come to Tokyo to finish getting 100 ink prints of men's penises before she enters an arranged marriage back in Sapporo. Her friend she is staying with, had been a lesbian ever since a man enjoyed some fetishes with her that since left her with hives from a man's touch and seeks to be cured of the affliction. The third is the friend's lesbian roommate who being left out is learning to enjoy self-pleasure.
This movie's title may have you conjure up ideas but you'd be mistaken. You will have to watch to find out what the title means! There are serious thought provoking ideas behind each major character, tho a lot of the story is played for laughs. Yes I laughed out loud a few times. The rest is just light humor.
The acting by the female leads is very good to excellent. Even though the movie is at times divided up to the three characters, the direction and editing make it all seamless.
This is a Pink Eiga film so there is nudity and several sex scenes. Nothing very explicit. The sex scenes are definitely part of the story and important to the scenes but not for the sex itself. This is not to be watched for the sex or nudity.
I really enjoyed this movie. Not perfect but definitely enjoyable. An example of how Pink Eiga can be an excellent film. Highly recommended.
Pleasure (2013)
Fast moving short film
The entire film takes place at a porn shoot. The cast does some blocking for their parts then a conversation off set takes place between two performers. All while another actress is filming her scene which includes double-anal.
First, this is completely non-explicit. You won't see any actual sex takes place. Almost no nudity too. Some preparation by the performer in the story but it happens off-camera.
This was interesting. Although a short film of about 14 minutes, the script moves at a quick pace. This short film, the director made somehow into a full length film in 2021 although I have yet to see it.
While the story is adult, this film is not pornographic in the least. Well worth watching.
Mian ju (1974)
A drama with sexual overtones
A man that's down on his luck gets work as a male model. The people around him are interested in him for more than professional reasons and his naivety gets him into sexual situations he doesn't fully understand.
This is a Shaw Brothers production. The story is a bit uneven at times. Especially when it is difficult to believe he could be so naive. Still, I found the story very interesting.
This includes a number of sex scenes and with the title one might expect there to be explicit scenes. Don't. The sex scenes are mainly PG rated or off-camera. The nudity is usually very brief where if you blinked you missed it except for one scene with a topless character.
While the movie is from 1974, most of the music style was more like the late 1960's. It even included a few bars of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" which is from 1968. I found it a bit distracting at times.
The acting is good, not great. If you are watching based on the title, you will be disappointed. If you're watching for the story, you will find it interesting.
Je suis nue (2019)
Makes you think. After you finish watching
A woman is seen nude. At home. While waiting for the bus. At work. At a party. You don't learn the significance until the end of this short film.
There really is not much to say about this film. That's probably why there are no prior reviews. A film that is only two minutes longer makes it difficult to write a 600 character review.
There is not much acting involved. Other than the main actress, the other characters except at the final scene are all incidental. There is so little dialogue. There is not even a lot of nudity beyond bare breasts.
Still it is interesting for what it is. It just does not say that much.
Yes, God, Yes (2017)
A short film that doesn't waste any time
A high schooler gets into some sex chat online. The next day at her Catholic high school her class gets a lesson from the priest in how sex is only for marriage. That's all I will give away for now.
Natalia Dyer is perfect in the role. There is no filler in between scenes. Every minute is important to the story. This is a short film that is less than 12 minutes including the credits but it flew by like it was 5 minutes. And it is a story that makes you think.
There is a full movie made based on this short film and I definitely will put it on my watch list. This is exactly what a short film should be. There is nothing to deduct any points. A perfect 10 out of 10!
S&M Sally (2015)
Started off promising then went downhill fast
This is basically around two sets of relationships that are connected by friendships & a former relationship. One is two lesbian women. In this instance since one has a history (which isn't exactly made clear) with the BDSM scene the other named Jamie but uses Sally at a BDSM club, decides to try it. The other is a woman in a relationship with a bisexual man who is then allowed a relationship with a gay man. The story bounces back & forth between the two relationship sets occasionally the friends only which doesn't add much.
First, I need to say I did not like any of the characters in this movie. Second, all relationships seem to be incompatible and no sense is given as to why they continue. If you don't care about the characters themselves then you won't care too much what happens to them. There were some laughs very early on but then I really found both the characters & story very, very sad.
The title indicates this movie has an S&M theme. It is really just a small subplot to the first relationship. Should mention there is no nudity and the S&M is barely shown on n screen.
I came across this movie a few years ago but from the description it didn't interest me. I chose it at random tonight. There are evidently two movies that somehow are precursors to this one. I guess I'll skip those. This really was a lousy movie tho I have seen worse.
Nam Yeung sap daai che so (1995)
Almost good enough to recommend. Almost
Four friends that had a trip to Thailand to get laid goes wrong. Instead they get involved with wizards which goes further wrong and end up on one wizard's bad side. The wizard goes after each of the four, one at a time to try to give each a gruesome death.
This is one of the many ghost/occult themed Cat III Hong Kong horror movies made in the 1990's. There is some moderately gory scenes with a few more intense in the beginning.
There also is some nudity but not much. Mostly bare breasts. Plus when there is nudity it is obscured by weird or dark lighting, a view thru a steamy shower or just short cuts where if you blink you will miss it. The couple of sex scenes are not even softcore.
Unfortunately, at times the story moves very slow, not quite doing anything. They could have cut at least 20 minutes and had a much better movie. The last scene was 15 minutes and could have been 5 without losing anything.
I would like to recommend this movie even just to fans of HK Cat III films but this one comes up short. There are much better.
Best Seller (1987)
Respectable evening movie watch
A cop who is also a novelist is having writers block while also hating his job. Then a man appears to be following him and his daughter, who turns out to be a hitman that wants to give him real-life material for his next book.
Yes it's a buddy movie of sorts. Played a little different than most. No laughs for this one. It is a serious crime drama.
James Woods and Brian Dennehy are both good although not award worthy. But the movie plays out well scene to scene. Never knowing where it is going next.
I bought the VHS tape of this movie a long time ago but never watched it. Don't even remember why I bought it. Finally watched it online. It is a good movie, not great. But worth watching.
The Last Temptation in Thailand (2008)
Both Good & Awful
This movie is really a view of the bar and sex industry in Thailand's major cities. The Director encounters, pays & interviews several sex workers during the course of this movie. He also shows a few streets, sites and clubs in certain entertainment districts. That's the good and some of it is interesting.
The awful? He constantly interjects his philosophical statements about how paying for a girl or prostitute in Thailand is better than dating in the west. Occasionally giving his views on relationships. He also gives a few quotes from Buddha although I think he made a few of them up.
He shows some of the girls in various stages of undress but either has the girls cover up things carefully or edited to avoid any nudity from being shown. While I didn't need to see nudity, the way it was done was sort of obnoxious.
Never is anything negative mentioned to the clubs and prostitutes. You'd expect some mention of STD's but he avoided the topic like a disease! No discussion about the clubs that advertise one price outside the club but then force you to pay our significantly more even for a single beer. The club Super Pussy was shown (famous for their pong pong show) and they for instance advertise 300 Baht for a beer outside and then it's several times that when you sit down plus tips expected every few minutes during the "Free show."
Even worse? He seemed to be homophobic. He makes several comments in that direction. He talks about Ladymen when the common term is Ladyboys. He briefly showed the Alcazar Cabaret which includes Ladyboy performers then described it in a negative light. I have seen it and you don't have to be gay to enjoy the show.
Additionally he interviews someone named Mac Horn as a famous writer/director yet the only thing I can find out about him was he ran a company for sex tourism and on IMDB he has a single credit appearing briefly in an episode of 60 Minutes.
I gave this 5 out of 10. Probably way took generous. But was interesting to see the entertainment districts although you can see the same on YouTube. The interviews with the girls was also interesting but his personal philosophical interjections I could have done without. The rest of this movie was just awful.
Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story (2008)
Entertaining more than informative
This is based on Mary Whitehouse's early efforts into TV censorship specifically with the BBC. It barely gets into her personal life except when related to the censorship work.
Mary Whitehouse went after more than the BBC, in fact more than TV she went after movies and print media. This movie never goes there. It does try to inject some humor but rarely with any success although it is possible it was successful with a British audience.
I am fairly familiar with Mary Whitehouse and some of her appearances on TV are available on YouTube. This didn't provide any new information unless you are completely unfamiliar with her you might learn the basics.
This was just a lighthearted look at the period and doesn't make any real judgement calls. Worth a watch.
Porn.com (2002)
A 28 minutes short film that is 28 minutes too long
A director is interrupted at a film festival by a friend that's in the hospital that he must direct a porn film.
Little in this film makes sense. He's given a cellphone when he arrives at the airport in Germany for the film festival but only to receive calls. Since nobody he knows what have the number what good is the phone only to receive calls? Then in the middle of his presentation at the film festival, he answers the phone. What director would answer the phone at that moment? Then when he's directing the porn movie he worries more about the script & cinematography than the sex. And what porn movie that they're making has virtually no nudity?
The acting ranges from poor to mediocre. The camera work is not good. I can't say anything was good.
I give it 2 out of 10 because it is fairly short. But it should have been shorter. Like 28 minutes shorter. Absolutely terrible.
Passion & Power: The Technology of Orgasm (2007)
High schoolers make better documentaries
This is not about the technology of the orgasm. It covers a few pieces of body massagers used to achieve orgasms but basically skips over anything that has a phallic shape. It explains some history of women and orgasms although it conflicts with any established historical records. It also jumps from the 1920's to the 1970's as if vibrators didn't exist during that time. It only show what most people what call a vibrator for 30 seconds later, it seems for comic relief.
This really was poorly put together. It mainly is interviews with four or five people. One person interviewed had nothing constructive or informational to add. In fact at one point the interviewer is telling them something they did not know. Plus that interviewee goes to show a vibrator/massager they own but it is never in front of the screen for us to see. They only show the electric cord. Absolutely useless!
The camera work is absolutely terrible. Most of the footage is displayed in rectangular boxes on various angles, sometimes spinning slowly. I recommend taking motion sickness pills before watching. The DVD Extras are displayed normally but it is apparent the camera often filmed things at weird angles.
This is a good example of how NOT to make a documentary. They did nothing right.
Onna kyôshi wa nido okasareru (1983)
Decent Pink Eiga
This is the 13th and last entry in the Female Teacher film series. Later films with Female Teacher in the title are unrelated although films within the series are individual. You do not have to have watched others in this series. Note that rape is a part of the story as in other films in this series.
A female teacher is unhappy with teaching at the school as well as her personal life. She wants more of a serious relationship with her lover but he doesn't. One of her students has fantasies about his teacher.
This is a Pink Eiga film so expect nudity and softcore sex scenes. There are actually double the number of sex scenes in most Pink Eigas. Most of the sex scenes are directly related to the story.
Even with more time on sex scenes this story was still engaging. It kind of felt like a Pinoy Bomba film. For fans of Pink Eiga it is highly recommended. For other people you might want to skip.
Osowareru onna kyôshi (1983)
Story is too inconsistent
This is the 12th film in the Female Teacher series. Better known by its English title: Attacked Female Teacher or Assaulted Female Teacher. Note that as in others in this series, the central theme is rape. Each of these movies stand on their own so you need not have watched the others first.
A woman is raped while walking home and because of this her boyfriend leaves her. Five years later as a teacher she has only short-term sex based relationships with both young and older men.
There are some inconsistencies that I am still not sure of. The story synopsis says she was a student at the beginning but it's not made clear and the actress and the boyfriend actor looked at the beginning too old for school. Plus she had her own small apartment at the time. One young man she has a sexual relationship with is I think supposed to be a student but again, the actor looked way too old to be a student.
This is a Pink Eiga film so has numerous nudity and sex scenes though of course all softcore. The story seems to mainly connect the sex scenes. Unfortunately, while it could have been very interesting with the characters, it rarely gets beyond the sex. It still was a bit interesting, just not very interesting. Should also note that the rape scenes were a bit more disturbing than other films in this series.
This is the weakest of the films in the series as far as story. It just seemed the script to not be fully coherent. Even a couple of other characters that appear earlier are kind of thrown away later when I expected to get more in-depth with them. Feel free to skip this one.
Kekkô Kamen (2004)
Weaker Kekko Kamen movie but some fun to be found
This is the first of the second series of Live Action Kekko Kamen films. The fourth overall. It is not required you to have seen the previous films.
Girls at a school for future anchorwomen are sometimes subjected to torture or sadomasochist things in the school's basement as lessons. When it gets too extreme the hero Kekko Kamen comes to the rescue.
Kekko Kamen is a masked hero who wears only boots and a hat that extends down to conveniently cover her private parts. She fights mainly using nunchucks but has a special power from her vagina. Only really her bar breasts are seen. Even though there are a number of other actresses, none get naked. Only Kekko Kamen.
This is definitely not one of the better Kekko Kamen movies but still fun to watch except for a few slow spots. No heavy story. Very low-budget. The last ten minutes is the best. I won't give away some of the surprises as they're what help you get thru much of the movie.
When you don't want a story that requires any thinking, this is a decent movie to watch. A few laughs and I do mean just a few.
Love and Leashes (2022)
Excellent in parts - mediocre in other parts
A female coworker mistakenly open a package so finds out her male coworker is into (sadomasochism) S&M. They end up in an S&M relationship with a 3 month contract as Dominant and submissive.
It has some funny moments early on. Then it gets a little more serious though not heavy with a few light bits. It does use part of the story to inform the viewer that might be uninformed about S&M. The SM is definitely part of the story and characters. Unfortunately, a few scenes felt empty so seemed to drag.
The acting was good. Seohyun the female lead was excellent. Just wish the script had a little more to.it for them. The S&M was not very serious onscreen. That detracted a bit. They could have shown more without being more explicit. This movie played more like a standard Rom-Com that a young teenager could watch.
It was still an enjoyable movie but could have been better.
Dominatrix Rates 9 Dominatrix Scenes in Movies & TV (2022)
Useless YouTube video
This is a YouTube video (be warned there are almost as many commercial breaks as video) where Damiana Chi a professional Dominatrix gives her perspective on the accuracy in several TV show episodes and movies of Domination/Submission or Dominatrix/slave.
The first problem with this video is she hasn't watched the complete movies or TV episodes. Evidently, someone else gave her only partial scenes to critique. So much is taken out of context. She's not actually giving her opinion on complete TV shows or movies.
The second problem is what she is judging. Like giving high marks to one (I won't disclose here) because the whips on a wall look genuine including one similar to one of hers. While another she gives very low points for one instance of a whip landing in the wrong spot.
It was slightly interesting, so I will give 2 out of 10 for that. But otherwise credit little in value.
The Amazing Shocking Asia (1998)
Abysmal film that tried passing off as Shocking Asia 4
I saw this with the DVD cover saying it was Shocking Asia 4. There is no 4. Only three Shocking Asia movies. No relation whatsoever.
Nearly all of the footage is of extremely poor photographic quality. A lot is so dark you can barely make out what is happening.
Almost everything is about death or dead bodies. Both human and animal. I don't think any was intended to shock but rather to disturb or disgust. Whereas the Shocking Asia movies were done in documentary fashion, this avoids any structural or educational content.
This really did not have any value in any way. It is also very difficult to watch both because of the photographic quality and how the content is presented. I had to fast-forward a number of times. Found nothing actually interesting at all. I rated this 1 out of 10 but would give a 0 if I could.
Onna kyôshi: Seito no me no maede (1982)
Much better than average Pink Eiga
This is the tenth entry in the Female Teacher series. Note that all films in the series include rape as a focal point for the story.
A high school teacher is raped in the female faculty locker room. She does not know who they are but finds a puzzle piece as a clue. That's about all the story I should give out.
The story actually builds like putting together a puzzle. We get a piece at a time but it's not complete until the end. This is a Pink Eiga film and so does have nudity (within 1980's Japanese censorship) throughout and several non-explicit sex scenes. The sex scenes are important to the story.
The acting is well above average. The lead actresses only have a few additional movie credits and it's a shame they did not do many more. The script had some thought into it. Not complicated by any means but it flowed.
This is one of those Pink films that really keeps your interest throughout. Plus having to actually think about the characters. Definitely on my recommended list for Pink Eiga fans.
Onna kyôshi-gari (1982)
Entertaining although sad
A boy and girl go skinny dipping in the high school pool one night. The boy is later accused of raping the girl. At the summer break, the boy quits school & leaves town. Their home room teacher leaves town as well with her married lover. The teacher and the boy end up in the same beach town although they don't know it yet.
The story revolves around rape. It actually made me think about what they in the story consider consensual and how they react to it. It's a bit deep for a Pink Eiga.
Being a Pink Eiga there is of course nudity and several obligatory sex scenes. Nothing really explicit and on my DVD there is very dark fogging to cover any forbidden body parts that might show. Some of the sex scenes are very pertinent to the story.
The story for the most part is about sad. Not sure where to place the ending. The acting was good. The story and characters kept me engaged for the entire hour plus. This film is not for everyone but I enjoyed it.
How They Make Adult Movies (1997)
Yes it's how but without any real technical details
This is basically interviews with actors, actresses and directors of adult movies. Most get into personal experiences. Strictly subjective. There is virtually no technical details except a discussion about using a green screen. Nothing groundbreaking or surprising here. This documentary was released in 1997 but most of the interviews reference movies they are currently making that were released in 1994 or 1995.
There is included porn footage that goes with the interviewee at the time but nothing explicit. Strictly softcore probably so this could be played on cable TV.
The documentary clocks in under an hour and it goes by pretty quick. Most but not all was interesting if you are interested in the subject matter.
Sex: The Annabel Chong Story (1999)
Extremely interesting albeit with a negative slant
This documentary follows Annabel Chong during and after the filming and performance of a 251 man world record gang bang she did for a porn film.
NOTE for ACCURACY: It was actually 251 times and not actually that many men. Only 70 men actually participated with some multiple times.
The director of this documentary was reportedly in a relationship with Chong during it's making. This might explain why the first half paints a more positive image of Annabel, while the later half shows a more negative. One scene Chong later said was filmed immediately after their break-up and she obviously appears in distress.
Annabel clearly tells the how and why she got into porn and for doing the world record gang bang. She is extremely open and candid with both her personal and professional life. We even get to see and hear from her college friends, teachers and her Mother. She comes across as intelligent and usually articulate. The sad part is she has allowed herself to be taken advantage of financially in her professional career including never been paid the $10,000 for the gang bang movie.
I have friends that have worked in the porn industry and they tell me they had to be assertive or have good representation to succeed financially in that industry. It is obvious in this instance with Annabel admitting she was not assertive. Obviously, even though she had an online fan club, she did not reap the benefits. My friends earned most of their income from their websites albeit a few years later than Chong. Just I found a sad, depressing part of this documentary.
This is not overly explicit. There is some nudity but not the focus. They do have scenes that take place during the filming of porn movies while sex is taking place but it's way in the background and you don't see any obvious sex.
I found this documentary very interesting but it is about Annabel Chong, her life and partial career. It is not a statement or view of the porn industry itself. Only Miss Chong's experience in it. Highly recommended.
The Bell Boy (1918)
When it's good it's excellent. When it's not, it just drags on
Fatty Arbuckle and Buster Keaton are bellhops at the Elk's Head Hotel. Buster's father Joe is also working at the hotel. As it says at the beginning, Third-rate service at first-class prices.
This is almost pure slapstick. A number of physical gags and a few straight jokes. Both Buster and his father Joe show their physical abilities. Almost all the gags work well and I laughed. That is almost. One scene went on too long and I didn't find funny. Another scene was funny for the first part of the gag but quickly became predictable.
This does show why Fatty Arbuckle was a star. It also shows that Buster Keaton had the potential that lead to his stardom. While a very good silent comedy, it just wasn't great.
