Prof. Dr. Carsten Scherer hat am 1. März 2010 den durch das Exzellenzcluster Simulation Technology neu eingerichteten Lehrstuhl für Mathematische Systemtheorie übernommen. Dieser Lehrstuhl ist dem Institut für Mathematische Methoden in den Ingenieurwissenschaften, Numerik und geometrische Modellierung innerhalb der Fakultät für Mathematik und Physik zugeordnet.
Carsten Scherer studierte von 1982 bis 1987 Mathematik an der Universität Würzburg. Während seiner Tätigkeit als wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Mathematischen Institut der Universität Würzburg von 1988-1993 promovierte er im Jahre 1991 über ein Thema der Kontrolltheorie. Nach einem einjährigen post-doc Aufenthalt in den USA (University of Michigan und Washington University) erhielt er 1993 einen Ruf auf eine Assistenzprofessur an der Fakultät für Maschinenbau der Universität Delft in den Niederlanden. Nach einer Gastdozentur an der ETH Zürich im Jahre 1999 wurde er 2001 zum Antoni van Leeuwenhoek Professor an der Universität Delft ernannt und hat dort zum Aufbau des Delft Center‘s for Systems and Control beigetragen.
