Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra replaces Shaktikanta Das as RBI Governor, to assume charge from Wednesday
This was announced by the finance ministry as current RBI governor Shaktikanta Das’ term has culminated.
New Delhi: Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra has been appointed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor on Monday, 09 December 2024. He is an IAS officer of the 1990-batch from the Rajasthan cadre. He has been appointed the RBI governor for a period of three years.
He will assume charge from Wednesday, December 11 for a period of three years, the government said in a statement.
This was announced by the finance ministry as current RBI governor Shaktikanta Das’ term has culminated after his six-year stint as the top officer of the central bank.
Malhotra is currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance (MoF). As revenue secretary, Malhotra handled tax policy relating to both direct and indirect taxes.
He will take over the office from Shaktikanta Das, who also served as secretary in the finance ministry.
Sanjay Malhotra has an experience of over 30 years during which he has served as secretary in the Department of Financial Services and worked in various sectors like power, finance and taxation, information technology, and mines.
Malhotra is an Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) alumni where he studied engineering in computer science.
He secured his Master’s in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.
